Most Italians I know and work with (and there are several) also join the chorus and laugh about it all.

Don't take everything so seriously. Fact is, certain groups of people have certain stereotypes attached to them. Maybe they're grouped and stereotyped by race, maybe it's their profession, or maybe it's religion or nationality.

It's not necessarily fair and the stereotypes don't even need to be remotely accurate. It just is.

If you're a fellow freeper, then let's not fall into the same trap that some other groups have found themselves in. Life's too short and there's too much to accomplish.

It's also worth noting that a corrupt, disgraceful Italian-American piece of sh!t like New Jersey senator Robert Torricelli doesn't to much to dispel any stereotypes about Italian-Americans.

(In case anyone is wondering, I'm an American of Irish descent who is perfectly willing to accept any similar sterotypes of Irish-Americans. A bloated, drunken slob like Ted Kennedy doesn't do much to dispel these stereotypes, either.)

The Italian mob stereotype works good on TV. I just bought a history of the mob centered around Legs Diamond. Until the about the time of the death of Meyer Lansky the mob was run equally on the national level by a coalition of Italians and Jews. You don't see movies or TV series centered on people such as Siegel, Buchalter, Cohen, etc. If there ever were an attempt at such a thing the Anti-defamation league would bring suit.

I'm of Scottish descent, and it didn't bother me at all in Braveheart when they depicted the Scots mooning the English.

First off, I like the show the Soprano's, but they do play to sterotypes. They make Mafia folks look almost noble and imperfect, when in fact they victimize innocent people (ask the people who have to pay shake down money, or have to use certain contractors, or buy materials from certain people or get hurt for it, which is costs then passed on to us). This isn't the worst of it, some people (out of ignorancy) won't even hire italians. I've personally known stock brokers who think anyone italian knows somone, and thus, leaven them vulnerable to being pushed into something illegal. I wish they had more honest portrayls of people of different ehtnic backgrounds and ethnicities instead of so many god damn sterotypes.
