First off I'd like to invite all to post results and commentary for Washington State Primary Elections.

Near and Dear to my heart is the Joe Zarelli 3rd District Congressional campaign.

Joe did well in the primary yesterday. This showing should garner some major support.

Remember that the Zarelli Campaign got a very late start and is running against an incumbent. Joe also has new counties not in his State Senate district.

I'd like to say way to go Clark, Skamania and of course Lewis county. Very strong numbers in all three. I am in Skamania so I'd like to think we can do much better.

I know everyone will be working hard in the next couple of months, thank you in advance.

Lets get some Conservatives in office in Washington State!

Let's Roll

I'm a bit confused. Zarelli won his primary, correct? And you're simply comparing his vote total against his Nov opponent's total from yesterday?

Correct.

If Zarelli post numbers less than say 40% he would loose GOP fundraising efforts and PAC monies.

It would also lessen excitement for the campaign itself.

Primaries can be very important to the future of a campaign. You can die in the primary.

Well, I would need to know more. For instance, if the GOP has a contested primary with a lot of interest, their winning candidate could potentially pull in more votes than the winning Dem. But the Dem could still win in a cakewalk during the general election.

But I'm glad your candidate won. :-)

Sure

In this case Zarelli ran uncontested in the primary and will run against the incumbent in Nov.

He did not start his campaign until June, you'll remember Matson pulled out after becoming a Father.

Which Congressional District are you in?

I'm about three time zones away - out here in Virginia. Since he ran uncontested, I'd say his numbers are quite competitive with the incumbent's, whom I presume also ran uncontested.

By the way, I saw an article this morning saying early signs are that the GOP will take back the WA state legislature.

Of course these numbers are not final and even little Skamania county has about 1,000 ballots left to count.

In this case Zarelli ran uncontested in the primary and will run against the incumbent in Nov.

I think Coop was saying that any contested race can skew the turnout. They had that in the 48th with the Esser/Van Luven contest for the R seat, pulling together 89% of the vote vs. 11% for the D. Any other vote involving the 48th would be skewed by the heavier R turnout.

I'm happy here in the 45th with the Bookspan and Nixon campaigns having done well without any races to skew turnout.

I would expect that he would do better in the rural counties. He really needs to nail them down if he is going to win in November.

Remember that Linda Smith got an even later start than Zarelli when she cleaned Jolene Unsoeld's clock in '94. Baird is such a scumbag. I'd really like to see him lose.

I did not expect a lead by Baird in my county. Though this campaign has been a little light on issues.

I hope to help change that.

Baird must be shown as the EnviroNazi that he is, he must be taken to task on the high unemployment (8% in Clark County) in our district. Some how we must get the Rual counties excited and on the move.

Right now Baird is going into these counties touting the Farm Bill.

Myself and my wife are two more votes for Zarelli in the general (we didn't vote in the primary, because there weren't any contested primaries in our area (Olympia). (Yeah, I know, my bad, but it wasn't worth wasting two stamps for given that we had NO contested primaries, other than the Thurston County sheriff on the Rat side, and we aren't voting Rat anyway).

Anyway, Zarelli did do better than expected, with a very low turnout. Nationalizing the issues (war and defense) will certainly help him with a larger turnout.

He has a chance, which is more than you can usually say in this wacko-leftist utopia.

You did not vote? tsk, tsk, tsk

Just kidding! ;~)

I am thinking the numbers in the rural counties are going to look even better tonight. Many ballots not tallied yet.

I agree on the national issues. The new unemployment numbers for Washington State should also bring Bairds in-effectiveness to the forefront.

Washington took the lead as the state with the highest un-employment.

I think the sorry state of our state's economy -- a powerful case can be made that it is the worst economy in the entire nation -- will play big in many elections at the state and maybe even national level.

It'll be hilarious to see Rats try and blame the state's economy on Bush - his tax cuts did it, his tax cuts did it!!!

Maybe the small business owners and retailers here can finally get some traction over the sales and B&O taxes. You bleed the golden goose long enough, eventually it dies.
