It is probably going to be Anti-Gun, Anti-Life Clintoonite Bowles Vs Dole in November.

I wonder how many libertarians will go vote for Bowles because Dole isn't pure enough, thereby keeping the senate in the hands of Daschle.

You mean the same Dole who was too liberal when she ran against Bush?

Dole or Bowles.

R or D.

Those will be the choices.

Is it better to get the Senate in the hands of the Republicans so we can keep NOW/NARAL/PlannedParenthood/ACLU from stopping the Judicial Nominees?

Or should we just elect Bowles, The Clintoonite and let Daschle keep the Senate.

What serves our purposes more?

Dole or Bowles??????

I voted for Dole, because I definitely don't want Bowles. LOL! I've seen one of Bowles' ads; they talk about how he was a former Chief of Staff, how he helped balance the budget, how he did all these things seemingly singlehandedly--but what's missing from the ad? Yep! You guessed it! Bill Clinton. There is absolutely no mention of Bill Clinton in the entire ad. If this race gets heated and ugly (and it will), I hope to God either the Dole campaign or the Republican party runs an ad showing Erskine Bowles riding around in the golf cart with Bill Clinton.

Bumping to follow. NC is my birth state, although I don't call it home - have plenty of relatives there too!

I hear you.

I would much rather have had Jim Snyder. Problem is, Snyder cannot beat bowles.

Moving from Pennsylvania to North Carolina, I was SHOCKED at how democrat this state really is.

They vote Republican for President, but democrat for everything else.

Dole is not as Conservative as Snyder. But she is the only Republican that can beat Bowles.

We have to get the Senate back in Republican hands and get Conservatives on the bench. I am much farther to the right than Dole, but she will serve the purpose of getting Leahy out of Control of the Judiciary Committee.

Pickering and Owen would not have went down in flames if The Senate wasn't in Democrat hands.

This election was about them more than it was Dole.

She has lived nearer to your state than the one she wants to represent for the last few decades.

Dang, I had a great idea for a Dole campaign commercial, until I saw that she served in the Nixon Administration:

(Background clip from Bowles ad) "Erskine likes to talk about his work, but not who he worked for." (Picture of both Bill and Hillary Clinton)

"But Elizabeth Dole is proud to tell you who she worked for."(Picture of Reagan, followed by a picture of Bush the Elder, followed by disaster victims being served by the Red Cross)

"Elizabeth Dole is glad to tell you who she wants to work with,"(Picture of GW Bush) "and who she now wants to work for."(typical pictures of NC and Carolinians.)

But I guess Nixon kinda nixes that idea!

Wherever these precincts are reporting from it seems more Republicans are voting than Rat.

This is the year if there is an (R) behind the name, don't even think, vote for them! We need the Senate back in order to get the conservative judges approved!

Overall, it looks like the Reps brought out more voters total than did the Dems, which is often a good sign for future turnout--particularly since the Republican outcome was more expected than the Democrat's.

I'm optimistic--but not about Florida!

I, personally, am thoroughly disappointed. Dole is a Democrat in disguise. I had hoped Snyder would have at least given her a run for her money.8 * /

Some areas are much more D than R, especially the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel-Hill area. There are so many people from up north and places like Michigan and Wisconsin.

You're right; we haven't given an electoral vote to a Democrat for president since Jimmy Carter in 1976, and even then it was out of regional loyalty, which still means a lot. We knew Bill Clinton for what he was, though, so NC went for Bush in '92 and R. Dole in '96. But at the state level, Democrats are, on the whole, a lot more conservative than national Democrats--they're Southern Democrats. But, while John Edwards and Erskine Bowles may be Southern and Democrat, they're not Southern Democrats. They're garden variety national liberal Democrats.

The Nixon connection wouldn't hurt her in North Carolina, even if Bowles brought it up, which he daren't do. Besides, Dole has already put out ads talking about her cabinet positions and Red Cross presidency under Reagan and Bush the elder.

But Bowles' Clinton connection will definitely hurt him.

You're right about that! I don't know which precincts are reporting, but with just 4% of them reporting, look at the difference in the numbers of votes. Elizabeth Dole has over twice the votes of Bowles! I hope this trend of low Democrat turnout continues through November! If not, I hope at least the proportion remains the same, LOL!

Erskine Bowles 9,712
Elizabeth Dole 22,226

It was hard for any of the others with a foot on their throat. I am pulling for Snyder, but there are some other good people too. I hope some of them try for something again.

The way the Republican Primary is Trending it is about all she wrote. I am betting on a 9:00-9:30 PM Call for Dole.

She should win with 65%-70% much better than any of her critics said she would get.

The Helms endorsement helped a lot.
