The evening started innocently enough for Brian Whitman, Sunday evening talk show host on KABC in Los Angeles.
He had on his show four minor candidates running for governor of California. Three were on the phone and the fourth, Libertarian candidate Gary Copeland, was in studio.
The conversation eventually turned to illegal immigration. Copeland did not like Whitman's position and called him a racist. Although Whitman kept trying to answer, Copeland kept talking over him and would not let him speak.
Just as Whitman puts callers in "timeout" on his show when they won't let him have his say, he told the engineer to cut off Copeland's microphone. Copeland became incensed and started packing his things to leave the studio.
Then, in great FReeper tradition, Whitman told Copeland not to let the door hit his ass on the way out. He also called Copeland a lunatic.
Then the rain came. Copeland walked over to Whitman and spit in his face. Whitman couldn't believe it. Two others on the KABC staff couldn't believe it.
Whitman had the station call the police and is considering filing assault charges.
Poor Copeland. He may no longer be the Libertarian candidate for governor. An official high ranking representative of the party called in to Whitman and told him that Copeland would be receiving no more backing and they were going to see what they could do to take him off the ballot.
Now that was classic talk radio. The unbelievable happened. A candidate for governor actually showed himself to be a bigger jackass than Gray Davis. Davis has spit on the law but never on Whitman, at least not yet. Brian, get him in studio.
LOL! You really ought to learn to spell, DC.
If we go back to word roots on this neologism of yours, we would see:
Hypo-: less than normal or normally
-cracy: form of government; also : state having such a form
So hypocracy would be a form of government marked by "less than normal" governmental powers.
i.e., you contradict yourself.
I plead the hyphen.
As a heathen myself, I have no problem saying "under God" or "under the Gods" if I feel the need.
School vouchers for religious schools is a bad idea. I would have rather seen the feds get the hell out of education altogether.
Losing the arguement so you had to change tactics huh? Typical.
The LP does need to think about whether it wants childish people out there "selling" it, using specious and ill-concieved logic.
When I am confronted with an ardent LP evangelist such as you, I am utterly repulsed by the thought of having to listen to a whole roomful people who think and act as you do.
And as the percentages show, I am far from alone on this. You guys do it to yourselves.
I'm at work, typing between testing cycles. You know what I meant and no one here has a perfect score on spelling.
Care to dodge around some more?
This is a thread ABOUT Gary Copeland. You didn't catch that?
Using the same logic you used on one issue on a simlilar issue.
Forget it. If you can't figure it out you are either doing it intentionally, in which case you are a coward, or you are too stupid to understand.
Either way I have no more time for you today.
No. I disagree with Libertarians on several issues, mostly having to do with the balance of individual rights against those of the community. I also recognize that the LP philosophy does not correspond to things as they are in the real world, especially in the realm of diplomacy and national defense.
Libertarian personalities simply make it easier for me to dislike the LP.
As for other people who are less predisposed to the basic libertarian concepts than I am, they will not even listen to people as unpleasant as you guys tend to be.
I think that the LP here in California has failed to meet the minimum requirements for ballot status again this year. Looks like they'll have to go out and start signing up street people living in boxes again.
Just trying to be accommodating.
Dueling morals? You have no ammunition.
I always have presented the bulk of my opposition to their views on the two issues #1 Ethics/morality (not seeming to tell the difference from good or bad)
Funny, you seem to think lying and misrepresenting people's philosophy is moral. I think you have a problem not seeming to know the difference. Not to mention the immorality of using violence to further your political views. Very moral from your veiwpoint it seems.
#2 That what they want is "anarchy". It has been said all over that the furthest extent of freedom is anarchy. This is the Libertarian view I think.
You think wrong, and you lie about anacrchy and libertarians. Again.
I have yet to see where I am off.
Blinded by hate. That is why you cannot see.
Remember: we're assuming that there is opposition to repeal of this or that gun law. (A realistic assumption)
So what exactly does your comment mean: that you would let local gun control laws stand because they represent the consent of the governed? Or that you would repeal those laws over the objection of the communities that passed them?
Your "logic" needs some work.
No -- but the irony was absolutely delicious, wasn't it?
I'm at work, typing between testing cycles.
Tech-type -- as predicted.
Happy Non Sequitur Day!
