A holiday weekend video treat: How cable music channel VH1 turned booing of Senator Hillary Clinton into cheering.
Senator Clinton was booed when she walked on stage last October at a rock concert in Madison Square Garden to benefit 9/11 victims. It was shown live by VH1 but, as ABC's John Stossel illustrated in a July 20/20 special on media distortions, when the Viacom-owned cable channel replayed it sound technicians replaced the booing with cheering and applause. And that version is the permanent record VH1 put onto its DVD of the event.
During his July 12 20/20 look at media manipulation and distortions, Stossel used the Hillary Clinton incident as his first example.
Earlier this summer, ABC's John Stossel showed how VH1 last year replaced booing of Hillary Clinton with applause
Stossel explained: Last fall Paul McCartney headlined a concert to benefit victims of September 11th. Some politicians appeared, including Senator Hillary Clinton. Over the booing of Senator Clinton as she walked on stage and waved, Stossel noted: And people in the audience booed her. Booed and heckled.
Stossel told viewers: But then MTV's channel VH1 re-ran the same concert and made it into a DVD. As 20/20 showed the same scene again, but this time VH1's new version with applause, Stossel pointed out: Notice a difference? The booing has been removed. Now and forever on the DVD the crowd applauds Senator Clinton.
The MRC's Mez Djouadi has posted a RealPlayer clip of what Stossel showed. To watch it, go to the posted version of this CyberAlert: POSTED VERSION.

I know- I can't find it either! I have gone through about 8 or 9 of the threads on FR that came up on that day. I clicked on all the links I could find and they are all dead now.-
Wait a minute. Rush played an audio of her getting booed! I remember it as clear as day. What a great item this would be for his show on Monday morning.
It is really interesting that this is happening after his show is done for the week. Maybe we should get as many FReepers as we can to get Rush to replay it. I think that there were some other national conservatives that aired it also. There must be files of this all over the place.

A long time ago, in the 1930's, my grandparents would listen to stories about news propoganda in Germany from a man named Joseph Goebels and they said, "How sad for those people that they should hear such stories." How sad for those people...

Senator Clinton was booed when she walked on stage...when the Viacom-owned cable channel replayed it, sound technicians replaced the booing with cheering and applause. And that version is the permanent record VH1 put onto its DVD of the event. That should be illegal. Can't somebody bring legal action against them?
To: vannrox
Al Gore probably invented the technology that enabled VH1 to do it.

Does anyone have videotape from the original broadcast? Perhaps we can find a way to circulate that. I bet there'd be some copyright issues on that...
I know Matt Drudge has it- he played it about a dozen times on one his radio shows. Matter of fact, I think I have that file somewhere on my hard drive.

I get a link not found error :(

"maybe keeping a before and after in a prominent place is called for. Lest we forget."
Well, you could be accused of taking the soundtrack of people wildly cheering their heroine, and adding in booing and hissing. Goebbels would have, ubetcha.

Will never happen. If a Republican had been booed it
would be rerun constantly on every news channel and used in every commercial when a Democrat runs for anything.

At the MTV Video Music Awards, two people were booed: Eminem and Rudy Guliani. Eminem's boos were edited out, Mr. Guliani's weren't.
I'll never understand how they can get away with that.

I strongly suggest we save this clip to file and burn a CD with it.- Lest it be spirited away forever also.

How do you save a RealPlayer clip? Can it be converted to AVI or MPG?
To: Windcatcher
I am not sure. Maybe one of the experts here can tell us how to do it.

You hit the nail right there.
To: eggman
Simply VH1's method of saying "Seig Hillary!" You hit the nail right there.
