Been following this thread all day at work and now able to reply.

Lets see, father republican ccw carrying and abusive alcoholic, mother enabler and probably disciplinarian = bad.

Daughter reaps the rewards of growing up "priviledged" and after exhausting such rewards decides that "privilegdom" is bad and runs off to Europe to "find herself" and rid herself of guilt feelings by renouncing everything that got her to where she is.

We see it all the time only the ones who stayed joined the marxist environmental movement or the Peace Corps.......

You are nothing but an idealistic little twit who resembles a couple other little Peace Corps twits I met in Honduras a few years back. They were thrilled to be living in the "out back" working on "Empowering the women". What they missed was the fact that they should have been working on providing these women with hot and cold running water and perhaps cement floors and windows in their homes and jobs for the men.

We here certainly don't miss you but can all sympathise with the obvious pain you have so selfishly put your parents thru. One day you will wake up to the realities of life, the realities of family and the reality that you truly do not have one anymore. You have thrown it all away and we feel so sorry for you......

"I just swap em out like I do with clothes, just depends on my mood :)"

ppfffttt! :-)

I hope to be able to do the same! Thank-you for your input, especially on the Glock 26. That's the lightest of the guns I'm considering and weight is going to be a big factor in deciding.

Check out www.usgalco.com for a good Inside-Waistband-Holster, BTW. It's well made, and hides it nicely.

I also have a Texas CHL, and I'm concerned for the disdain that this uk_nomad has for it. The reason we passed the law from from the Killean masacre by that creep. One lady would've had a clear shot at him, but left the gun in the car cause it wasn't legal.. She was elected to our legislature and helped pass the CHL laws, which have been a wonderful success.

Every good gun collection needs a 1911.

A 1911????!!! They multiply like bunnies around here! (I wish they really did; it would be cheaper.) We still use them for target shooting, and when the panic is REALLY on I'm much more comfortable with it. Just finally decided that I didn't feel comfortable about carrying one concealed in Condition One, grip safety or not.

I've read that story...happened at the Luby Cafeteria. I'll never forget it because she watched her parents die.

I have a GA CCW. My beef with the law here is that I have to leave it my weapon out in the car every time I enter an establishment that serves liquor. I understand (somewhat) the "logic" behind it but I don't drink, so I find this really inconvenient.

It's more difficult for a woman to carry concealed on her person. Or maybe it's just me. I seem to be configured differently (not at all overweight) but the inside-the-waistband doesn't work for me. I'd love to carry at the small of the back or a shoulder holster, but both require layered clothing...not too practical in the summer. I may try a shoulder holster this winter.

Menard was released on probation in January after serving four months at Baldwin State Prison in Milledgeville for a cocaine possession conviction in Clayton County, said state prisons spokeswoman Peggy Chapman.

Another success in the WoD.

Well, I'll give you some advice for really easy carry.

www.kel-tec.com

Their P32 is the tiniest, lightest, and thinnest gun you'll find that's worth carrying. The Winchester silvertip in .32 ACP is acceptable, 66% or so stopping power, which isn't so bad.

The Glock 26 is fatter. A bit harder to hide. The Kahr P40 covert, like the P32, slips into my pocket easily. You might also look into the Taurus revolvers at http://www.taurususa.com/

I have one of these: http://www.taurususa.com/titanium/85mult.html

The Federal Nyclad .38 special +P rounds work fantastic in it, but just 5 shots.. I'd get a speedloader for it. Revolvers are extremely reliable, a huge boost in CHL.

Shop around some, and see what you can find. Can't beat a Glock for any use, I have 4.. Love them all. Sigs are great, have 4 of those too.. If you just want 1 though, it's very hard to really choose. I'd consider a light .38 revolver pretty seriously, since they are compact and pack a decent punch.

The kel-tec was actually recommended to me by the female co-owner of a local gun shop. She's tiny and keeps it in her pants pocket. At the risk of sounding like the "gun snob" my husband .45MAN accuses me of being, I didn't like it because it reminded me of a water pistol. ;-)

I've handled the Taurus PT111. I had a hard time racking the slide. Also, the trigger action was way too long and felt sloppy.

The ultralite you have is a good looking revolver. That would be a real style change for me as I have only handled semi-autos. We're trying to keep the loads at 9 mm and .45 because the plan is to one day reload our own. To make things easier, I tried to find a .45 I liked. I tried several out at the range. My recovery time from the recoil is too long. I can rapid-fire a 9mm with much more accuracy.

Once again, I appreciate all of the input!

Good point. Clearly a stiffer sentence would have taken this criminal off the streets much longer. So you'll join me in pushing for longer sentences for drug criminals?

I have had the same problems.

Col. Cooper and Bill Jordan (of the Border Patrol) are not big fans of the cross-draw or shoulder holster because it places the butt of your pistol in position for an assailant to grasp it. Also, if you have a significant bustline, a conventional shoulder holster is problematic. Bianchi used to make a low-riding shoulder holster that tipped the butt of the pistol down and forward, think it's called the Scorpion. I was able to do a smooth draw with that, but that was in the days when I had to wear a suit, winter and summer. (Senior partner did a serious double take when he walked in my office unannounced one day while I was putting on my jacket. Fortunately he was an ex-Marine! And as I said, as long as I had to park behind the Union Mission and work until 10 pm I was jolly well going to carry.)

I am using two rigs now: when I'm dressed casually I wear the Bianchi hip pack with a concealed holster in the back. Has a breakaway zipper and an acceptably fast draw once you practice with it. Alternatively, I use an inside-the-waistband holster, left hand draw, centered in the small of my back, that seems to be the most comfortable location. I simply draw from the right hand side (get the opposite hand holster from the one you usually use). Can't drive with it there, but I can slip it out inconspicuously as I sit down . . .

I had a Taurus PT-140.. It was.. ok. Best thing about it was the capacity and ease of cleaning.

If you want to stick with 9mm, I'd say try and go with a Glock 26. Perhaps a Glock 36 .45 would be ok? It's gonna kick heavily however...

Sounds like you like the Glocks, and like 9mm/.45's. In that case, the G26 or G36 seem like very good choices.

The good thing about a revolver though.. You don't have to practice so much with 'carry loads'(ie expensive ones)..

A semi-auto, you want at least 150-200 of the rounds you'll carry with you, without a failure. Good luck on your choice!

Don't worry! Once you start reloading, you will collect dies and calibers indefinitely. We started with .45 ACP, and (without going upstairs and checking the shelf) here are the dies we have now: .45 ACP, .45 ACP carbide competition, .45 Long Colt, .455 Webley, .41 Magnum, .38 S&W, .38 Super, .380 auto, .25 auto (just to prove we can do it!), plus all the rifle calibers . . . .308 Win regular and competition, .303 Brit full size and neck only, 30/30, 30'06, 7mm Mag, .348 Win, 45/70 Govt, think that's all! Dies are like potato chips . . . you just always gotta have another . . . :-D

Actually I was being satirical. This incident supports the traditional argument that drug users are involved at a higher rate in robbery and home invasion.

Yes. I agree he should have had a longer sentence. Although the victims dispatched the perp, being threatened in your own home and being forced to kill someone is still a traumatic event. I would not wish this on anyone (except maybe some lefties).

". . . you just always gotta have another . . . :-D"

Oh great...another "addiction" to look forward to!

We've actually been saving our brass for the past two years and have 2 forty-lb. kitty litter buckets full of both .45 and 9mm. I guess those two are a good place to start.

Along with collecting the dies comes collecting the guns to go with them.....I'm seeing $$$ signs floating in front of my eyes! ;-)

I think the small-of-the-back holster may be my best bet. I don't have a large bust (fortunately or unfortunately) so the shoulder holster is still a good possibility. I understand an assailant has a better chance of grabbing it, but if concealed properly, they wouldn't know I had a gun to grab.

You've given me food for thought...I just need to try each one out.

"A semi-auto, you want at least 150-200 of the rounds you'll carry with you, without a failure."

I get that from my Beretta, so I'm really spoiled.

The only failure I've had with the Beretta occurred last Sunday at the range. I was breaking in a new magazine. I hate that feeling. Reliability is definitely a plus. Thank-you, Monty. I know what I'll be dreaming about tonight! ;-) Have a great evening...time for me to call it a night.
