Simon;"The GLOVES ARE OFF!"
Simon for governor campaign ^ | 08/29/02 | Bill Simon

Posted on 08/29/2002 6:03:39 PM PDT by runningbear

Gray Davis continues to distort the truth and make false accusations against me, and ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

The GLOVES ARE OFF!

Simonforgovernor.com

We have unveiled a new ad that strikes at the core of Davis’ Pay-to-Play antics in the Governor’s office. The ad, titled “This Whole Thing Stinks,” highlights Davis’ willingness to sell even our children’s health to the highest bidder.

“This Whole Thing Stinks”

A Gray Davis board stopped a big oil company, Tosco, from dumping more dioxin into our water.

But, the very next day, Tosco gave more than $50,000 to Davis’s campaign.

The Davis board quickly reversed itself…

…and allowed Tosco to increase cancer- causing dioxin dumping… 400%.

You are entitled to your opinion, but you do not have to go around doing everything in your power to destroy Bill Simon just so you can say, "See, I told you so."

This is war, and you're lobby grenades at your side. Sometimes we don't like our allies, but we don't try to take them out from the trenches.

Why do you assume there are only two choices on the ballot. That's a bit presumptive, isn't it?

What's your RINO policy, GOP Hack?

Say, some of you guys lob as many 'grenades' toward your own camp as too; the hate dripping off the jowls of some here towards those of us conservatives FED UP with RINOs antics year in and year out, campaign in and campaign out, administration in and administration out, and this constant GOP shifting to liberal and moderate accomodationist positions, is something we might also loath, too. Have you considered that? Or are you new to the political scene and not been through enough cycles and sellouts yet?

When and where are these ads running? I get my satellite "local" network access from LA and I see Davis' ads all the time, I have yet to see a Simon ad. I only watch Fox and sometimes CBS so that may be the problem.

Your pro-LEFT policy is clear for me to see.

You talk a conservative talk, but your actions are aiding the Left. That has become clear recently. I will not let that go past quietly, nor shall I remain silent as the RESULTS you create are little different than what would happen had you decided to vote for Grayout.

Gophack is supporting a conservative Republican who you happen to disagree with on 1 or 2 issues. Hide behind Jefferson all you wish, but this makes your back-stabbing just as craven as that of John Warner and Donnie DiFrancesco. Your actions speak louder than your posts, sir. And they scream CONSERVATIVE IN NAME ONLY.

Us? You must have missed what I said about Donnie DiFrancesco. I'm against ANYONE who sabotages a conservative Republican candidate - from the center or from those who purport to be conservatives.

Justify it all you want. Cry "sellout" all you wish. You are equally guilty in my mind. I've BEEN "sold out" by the likes of Warner (I cast a proud vote for Ollie North in 1994). YOU are selling out just so you can feel good about yourself. YOU are little more than a sunshine conservative in my book.

The backstabbing STOPS NOW. You might think of me as a moderate or accomodationist, but you're not dealing with Trent Lott's lignuini spine. I've seen enough of these comments about how perfectly solid conservatives like Simon have "lost a vote" over this, and I'm going to fight any who will do so. Those who sell Simon out in 2002 are NO BETTER than John Warner or Donnie DiFrancesco.

Bill Simon's going to win this election and a lot of naysayers are going to be eating crow.

If Simon manages to un-Fong his campaign and win I will gladly eat crow. After the celebration party of course.

Simon will have to deal with those who have decided now was a good time to stab him in the back, too.

I've been a Republican volunteer for fifteen years and I have worked as the campaign manager on many staffs. I am frustrated by much of what I see, but I know that we're making some gains. I have found many battles and won, and many battles and lost. I am a conservative, before I had a family I worked 18 hour days electing conservative Republicans to office, walking precincts around California, phone banking, talking to voters, and serving on the board of active volunteer organizations like Young Americans for Freedom and the California Republican Assembly. My credentials are not in question.

I have been disappointed many times. I was disappointed in George Bush Senior, but I voted for him in 1992. I have been disappointed by my elected representatives, but for the most part they are conservative and I support them. I don't agree 100% with anyone, and I don't expect them to always agree with me. But if they are right of center, and solid on the right to life and the right to keep and bear arms, I will give them a couple chances.

Don't believe everything you read, and don't think that ANYONE is ever going to agree with you all the time. I knew a conservative once who re-registered as a Democrat to run against a conservative Republican because he was furious that the conservative Republican would advocate a constitutional convention for the purposes of a balanced budget amendment. They agreed on everything else -- abortion, guns, taxes, etc -- but this was the "one issue" that was more important than any other. If there was another issue, he would have bailed on that one as well.

I do not like RINOs and have done everything I can to defeat them. I do not vote for pro-aborts because as a Catholic I can not in good conscience vote for anyone who promotes the killing of unborn children or old people. But I will fight for those who are almost 100% conservative because this is but one battle in a war. And the Democrats are winning.

Simon is going to win.

I'll make my prediction now (though it's a little early). On election day, maybe we'll start a thread on this and see who gets the closest.

Simon 48.9%
Davis 47.1%
Camejo 3.1%
Others 0.9%

JMHO -- and if Davis and the Democrats didn't cheat, I think Simon would get over 50%. I'm factoring in a 2% cheating margin because I know Democrats cheat.

In this case, it may well be after the polls close that it turns out Simon sabo'd himself. That was a pretty ridiculous thing to do, tacticly speaking, don't you agree?

Your vote is not going to the candidate that is most likel yto defeat an out-and-out Leftist Democrat.

Bill Simon is a solid conservative. Perfect? No. But he is still solid, and he'll get a donation from me as the best option there is.

You're talking the talk about conservative stuff, but your actions will only help re-elect a leftist governor who will oppose you on everything as opposed to (possibly) a few items.

What else am I supposed to draw from that? Principle? Don't hide behind that. You do it more harm by not supporting the person with the better chance to win, even if you disagree with them. Primaries are for dealing with those who are thought of as RINOs. In the general election, we have enough trouble stopping the Left - we don't need third party-types to divide us.

No, why I don't see you as moderate at all. I see you as conservative (and misled).

bravo. m.s.e. (my sentiments exactly) he needs to Un-Fong and right now. A clear statement to the press rescinding his Log Cabin replies would be sufficient. Still waiting for that, though.

If anyone is misleading conservatives, it is the third party types. I threw my lot in with the GOP with my eyes wide open, knowing things might not go as fast or as well as I would like, but they offered the best chance.

The third-party types have only helped elect Democrats in at least THREE Senate races (Virginia 1994, Nevada 1998, Washington State 2000). YOU are the one who is misled, not me. You are the one being lured away, and allowing the left to defeat the conservative agenda in detail, because you allow perfect to be the enemy of good enough.

I, for one, have had enough of that. I'm taking a stand. I'm sorry if you take it the wrong way, but I've got to call it as I see it. And I see third-party conservatives as being objectively pro-Left, since I have seen a lot of conservatives DEFEATED because third parties drew away just enough support to put Dems in place.

OK. You've made your point. I'll come over to your viewpoint. Just need that campaign statement or perhaps a letter by Bill (and only Bill) under his signature to the conservative, social right in Cal. (any organization will do, pro-family, what not), stating that his answers to the Gay Lobby were taken out of context and that he in fact does not stand for a number of the things he said (in reply to the G.L.). How's that for a compromise?

No State Senate intermediary 'Ambassadors to The Right'. No slick campaign spinning to appease both polarized sides. No wishy washy vague statements. A retraction will do the trick. I hope and am sure that the conservative base for Simon is important enough to him that this could be achieved, maybe in a radio interview or a column or something like that. :-)

No conditions on this one. You've got to be willing to trust people like Haynes and others on this, and allow Simon to concentrate on Davis. Gray Davis is the enemy, he's the major target. I have no problem with holding Simon's feet to the fire, but AFTER the election.
