I know that it's really easy to blame a bunch of dirt farmers with no education of "forcing" the American government to do things that even citizens can't seem to do.

Real easy, and real idiotic.

Why don't you familiarize yourself with Executive Order #13166, and try to start making educated statements among educated people.

The Hispanics will assimilate, and this nation will have a better chance with the traditional ethnic values of Hispanics (family, unity, God) than by allowing a bunch of Europeans to migrate to the US from the socialist dung heap that Europe (and I include England) has become.

Latecomer to the thead, but I agree this is good news for the GOP. That the dim strategy, after recognizing that they had been losing their "solid south" -- ostensibly as the south had become more sophisticated -- was to open the US southern border to unrestricted immigration and then to offer the freebies, all in attempt to create a new dimocrat base.

Good strategery, Mr. Kennedy, but you overlooked one possibility: the newcomers may in fact be conservatives at heart! This, I think, is what is happening. The newcomers are swaying conservative, and the dinms did not expect this outcome in their modeling. It may well be that Bush undersatnds how to attract these newcomers -- particularly in a way that past CA GOP Governor OPete Wilson did not fathom (no fault implied to Gov Wilson). Anyway, these are inded interesting developments.

I can't force you to believe what I say, watcher1. Nor would I if I could. But I think you're jumping at shadows, and I think you're using way too broad a brush on this issue.

Funny that many of us who live in California agree with RLK. I guess we don't see the situation as clearly as someone like you, living in Virginia.

I got news for ya. I recently moved from California to Virginia. One of the new-arrival drills is going down to the DMV to get a drivers license. I felt right at home: all the people around me were speaking Spanish. I kid you not.

Hey, look at the bright side. Our immigrants are Christian (Catholic, mostly), and most of them are pretty hard-working people. Find me a guy who walked 1200 miles to get to "El Norte" and I'll show you a guy with some serious drive and ambition. I'd as soon have that guy on my team, even if today he doesn't speak a word of English.

Western Europe has immgrants, too. Their immigrants think that Allah wants the infidels killed. It could be worse.

Yup. Hchutch has an amazing grasp of California, far better than you and I who merely live here. Maybe he watches a lot of Baywatch and Beverly Hills 92010.

I live in L.A. and reflect your Brother's analysis.
Atztlan is leftist college campus fluff.
The Hispanics in my heavily Hispanic neighborhood are great and work hard and take care of their homes and families.

I don't know what Pete Wilson was thinking, with the exception of getting re-elected. I do think that Bush is doing one thing right: He's trying to find a solution to secure the borders WITHOUT the use of mass deportations or anything that the Tancredo-Buchanan crowd wants.

See post 55. My brother's experience has convinced me that INCREASING Hispanic immigration will not be a bad thing for our country or the conservative movement.

Dumping on England again I see. I think I will start researching Gallecia. There must be some dirt somewhere, other than the crummy climate (when they sang it rains on the plain in Spain they really meant Gallecia). :)

I agree completely. These folks are more like us than a lot of the Eurotrash who are so concerned about us delivering a boot up Saddam's butt or the fact we decided to clear out of Kyoto.

Let's set them up to succeed with a common-sense immigration policy.

That's a pretty bold statement Louy.

I guess America is better off with more guys with lawn blowers than someone from europe who has a Ph.D. in Chemistry

What really irritates me about Hispanics in California, is that they are the main obstacle to legalized gay marriage in California, which I favor. Oh well, nothing is an unalloyed plus.

Looks like were going down memory lane a few hundred years again, by those that attempt to mimimize this national, titanic crisis, at every turn. They never miss an attempt to sugarcoat the the incremental suicide of this country...

Yeah, I'm the one that does this Tex. Sure.

Tell you what, I will bail out of this thread now....Have at it, and be sure to tell everyone how Texans really appreciate the millions of illegals that have now made Texas home...Oh, and there are many thousands more coming, bet the rent... Enjoy...

Funny how all this happens without amnesty having to be extended.

We'll see. Thus far, the President has made a greater effort at a new Section 245(i) extension than he has on non-WoT related deportations. Bush's fortunate defeat this Spring provides him with an opportunity to rectify that.

I believe that can be done in such a way so as not to erode this new-found Latino support.

Did Bush ever insinuate this? If so, when and do you have proof?

Well, I feel I have a lot more in common belief-wise with someone who walked 500 miles to the north and took a bunch of risks in pursuit of a better life than some Euroweenie who reads George Monibot, and vuew us as the #1 Rogue Nation (as shown in that USA Today photo a while back).

No offense intended, but I think Luis Gonzalez has a valid point.
