Schoolhouse Rock: Blessing or Curse upon a generation?
DVD Release news - various sources | 8/21/02 | Holofernes The Headless

Remember those catchy Schoolhouse Rock tunes that taught millions of children the fundamentals of math, grammar, science, history and money?...

I saw this DVD being released and no, it's not "hard news", but I remember learning the Preamble from these cartoons, among other things. I immediately thought of Freepers and wondered... were these cartoons, in retrospect, a good thing full of good teachings, or a sinister plot to promote a Left agenda? I'm sure SOMEone here has opinions or evidence to support their theories about Schoolhouse Rock and a "lost" generation of kids (?). And no, I have no financial interest in the DVD or Disney Corp... but I'll probably buy the DVD when it comes out and remember underoos and fruitloops and the Bicentennial.. gotta love those $2.00 bills!

I really can't see a downside to them.

They stuck. That was a good thing. Unless you are driving cross-country with two kids in the back seat. My parents would probably go with "curse"

Shot Heard Round the World was probably my favorite of the group, and a great topic... but I'm not sure about the inflammatory _Sufferin' Till Sufferage_ spot, nor the Math lessons in _Hey Little Little Twelvetoes_... all the lyrics are here: http://www.apocalypse.org/pub/u/gilly/Schoolhouse_Rock/HTML/schoolhouse.html

Well, I'm sure you've fired the proverbial shot across somebody's bow.
Just so you know:

The shot heard 'round the world
Was the start of the Revolution

They were great. The only 'leftist' one I can think of was the one about the world running out of energy, but even that only was pushing common sense conservation, not radical enviro-whacko stuff.

The DVD will be great, I'm glad they didn't try and make it a 4 DVD set (one for history rock, one for science rock, etc.) and I plan on getting it.

Yeah, I always thought the History Rock were the best of the bunch.

I think they were great! We've had them on video for years and my kids like them.

Just be thankful they weren't produced today. It would be a medley of show tunes, by the cast of La Cage Aux Faux, dealing with hate crimes, tolerance, diversity, and everything that's "for the children."

I just bought my boys the 4 cd set a week ago. I think they not only instilled lifelong lessons about government, grammar, science and math facts, but also character and a knowledge of godliness.

One song in particular, the Number 3, speaks of the Trinity. You wont find that anywhere on tv these days.

I will be buying this the day it is released if possible. I've got the VHS tapes, and my little one is learning about adverbs, the preamble, manifest destiny, and his multiplication tables. The DVD will have more stuff on it, and in a better medium.

Schoolhouse Rock "America Rock" unashamedly mentions God several times, and though it was probably put together by liberals, it was 1970s liberals who were a bit more constrained in their desire to impose socialism upon society. And many weren't atheists or feminazis. (There is one America Rock that talks about Women's Suffrage, and it treats the subject in a fair way; celebrating the vote instead of the man-hating attitude we're so used to seeing from the NOW gang.)

Schoolhouse Rock is good stuff.

It would be funny to do a parody of the NEA's touchy-feely approach to 9-11, and call it "Schoolhouse Schlock."

I'm glad it's not just me that expects people to start singing whenever the preamble to the Constitution is read aloud!
