A letter discovered over the weekend at a makeshift memorial for Eric B. Taylor, the 31-year-old Massillon patrolman killed in a shootout Friday night, defends his killer and predicts that more police officers will die in traffic stops.
Friends of Donald W. Matthews, a 61-year-old former Steelworker who quoted the U.S. Constitution like a preacher thumbing a worn Bible, say he was suspicious of government. But nobody knows why he chose a routine traffic stop Friday night to make his final stand, fatally shooting a Massillon police officer in the back before he was killed himself in return gunfire. He might have been returning home from a constitutionalist study group in Cleveland

JACKSON TWP. -- He believed that the U.S. Constitution is the governing force of the people. And he carried an imported semiautomatic military handgun. He refused to pay personal income taxes, at least three times. In a Web site posting in May 2000, Donald W. Matthews protested unconstitutional and onerous gun laws in the United States. He tried to gather support to petition the U.S. Supreme Court about citizens gun rights. His screen name was Broom Handle.
Regardless RS, it's obvious what feeling is being conveyed here.
You broke-a da code. That is exactly how ideologues work--it's in Carlos Marighella's Manual of the Urban Guerilla, and the technique was used by the Sandinistas in Nicaragua.
But...don't you think he should of had a better plan to prevent that...than...SPEED OFF and SHOOT?
You mean it's not? Only crazy cop killers think like this?
I understand what you are trying to say...but you have to understand that the Constitution cannot be demonized in this part of the country...not among the great unwashed...no matter what the press tries to do.
I beg to differ.
The one missing the point is you. The guy who murdered the cop and all of his cronies, including the cowardly thug who wrote the note, are the ones who identifying themsevles as Constitutionalists. Profiling works for me when it comes to considering young Middle Eastern Muslim men as potential terrorists
Let's see....how many such incidents such as this have we seen, compared to the daily rantings and bombings of jihadists, threatening us daily with 'holy war'.
To compare the vast majority of us with these folks is just plain dishonest.
and it works for me when it comes to considering white men who claim a police officer has no Constitutional authority to issue traffic tickets as potential murderers.
I'm sure you are one of those who favored targetting pro-life groups while Osama and his pals plotted mayhem. You aren't fooling anybody. I know where you are coming from, Mr Jim.
It's been a while since I lived in Ohio, but I'm pretty sure it's legal to have a gun in your car there, and Matthews had no criminal record so it was fine for him to *have* it. I could be wrong about this; as I said, I moved away from there many years ago.
Brandishing the gun as you speed away from a traffic stop, on the other hand...
You must not pay attention to elections.
The American people HAVE what they want.
You goofy libertarians actually think the American people are going to somehow flock to your ideas, when they continue to tell you, election after election, that "sex, drugs, and rock n' roll" are just not on their radar screens.
Americans don't think they're "in chains" (and, they're not), and they want scofflaws who break the law or threaten the security of the country to be punished or locked up. They don't idolize "patriots" who wave copies of the Constitution at highway troopers as if they (the "patriots") can just do whatever the hell they want.
The winking and nodding that some on these threads have been doing over these faux "Constitutionalists" who think they're reaching some fantasized "breaking point" and that that justifies killing law officers does your advocacy of whatever you advocate no good at all.
Just as 9/11 and the stone-cold silence of most of the Muslim community in its wake damaged Islam immensely, so all the "drivers' licenses impinge on my freedom to travel" in the wake of the murder of this cop by someone who took his nutty ideas to an avowed conclusion, threatens to drive a stake in the heart of the "Constitutional" movement unless you sympathizers unequivocally condemn idiots like Matthews.
Well it appears he did, and she is right:there is no "understanding" this kind of act.
