Which State is the Armpit of America?
Arthur Wildfire! March

Posted on 08/07/2002 4:23:30 PM PDT by Arthur Wildfire! March

Ok fellow freepers. The aristocracy had fun deciding which 'hick town' was the armpit of America. Naturally it had to be rural and conservative. A tad redneck.

They were way off the mark. I would have picked New York prior to 9-11. I mean, good grief. Hellery's husband pardoned bomb terrorists to get her elected, the scandal is exposed to every New Yorker and they elected her anyway? She was silent on the issue for at least a week. But well, perhaps NY had been reborn in blood. So, I'm tempted to give them a pass.

Arkansas? Could that be the armpit of America? The home of NationsBank, Tyson Chicken, Walmart, Web Hubbell, and the Big Creep himself?

Then there is the delightful state of New Jersy, which is batting a thousand at elected scandal-swamped senators. Not only the Torch, but also Corzine.

Some might choose South Dakota. Not only do they keep re-electing Timber Tom [also called Rushmore Daschle], but they also go three days without brushing their teeth. So many choices....

Hey quit picking on Hartford ... we have OTHER ugly places in Connecticut ... Bridgeport, New Haven, Waterbury ya know! &;-)

Well I haven't really explored those places yet, so I am not informed enough to pick on them. But then again, I don't think I want to be that informed. ;)

Regards, Ivan

Country music is great. You may want to try it out some time. It's relatively clean, patriotic, often about family, faith, life, etc. Good Stuff.

This is an important cultural topic... the music barrier. What I believe might help you understand other rockers. As a child, I was first a miniature cowboy. But peer pressure drove me away from cowboy hats and I learned to love rock music. I am now a rock enthusiast. For a time, [painful to say this] I was an anti-country snob [the same time I was a liberal] although one of my favorite songs was 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia'.

Becoming a conservative wasn't easy. Learning to love country music is probably impossible. But I love the people who love country music. I hope that counts more. Freegards....

As a resident (in a nice rural part of the state) I have to agree with your assessment.

Connecticut's cities are horrible beyond belief. The capital (Hartford), as you obviously found out the hard way, is one big slum from end to end.

New Haven is Yale surrounded by slums.

Waterbury is horrible.

Bridgeport and Stamford have a few wealthy areas surrounded by terrible slums.

New Britain is probably the worst small city I have ever seen with downtown a 24-7 hangout for some of the creepiest characters on the planet. And on and on it goes.

We have Dodd and Lieberman for Senators, a Congressional delegation featuring two RINOS and a left wing crazy woman (DeLauro).

The cities are cesspools of corruption. FBI investigations have recently nabbed three mayors, and probably they could round up the rest with a little effort. The Feds and State have poured billions of dollars into them enriching the politically connected while the cities look worse every year.

The new immigrants have been very poor and unable to speak English, and they are the only growing part of the population.

The state politicians are totally clueless, and they flee to the suburbs at night like everybody else.

After seventy years of liberalism our state has become like a third world country, with the highest per capital income in the country (thanks to all the inflated NYC salaries paid to Fairfield County residents) in a sea of poverty and misery.

Since the state has been, is, and will be continued to be run by liberals for the forseeable future (since the Rats control registration in the cities by a 10-1 margin) the state is on a slow and steady decline.

(So some Freeper is going to ask--why are you there? And the answer is--if you move far enough away so that the only sounds you hear are birds amd crickets, the state's natural beauty is untouchable :-) )

Why are we here? Where did we come from? Where are we going? &;-)

Stars, Stars, and More Stars

I got a "C" in Philosophy because I refused to accept the fact that psychological Egoism cannot be treated as a legitimate philosphy because it explains EVERYTHING people do and is thus Tautological. We came from Stars...We're here to appreciate that fact and we will be in the stars in 300 million years or so...specifically Andromeda Galaxy!

Who was that cliff's notes quoting man?

Don't ask them to actually get off their asses and break a sweat, gc... Being complacent armchair activists is what these people do best.

Easy to let us do the work, then claim the successes.

CALIFORNIA. No contest. Great weather, but the people are FU-KED UP!

Flame away California freepers. You guys maybe OK, but the majority of your neighbors are the biggest bunch of fruitcakes this side of Harry and David.

Chester is definitely bad, but is it worse than Camden or Newark?

Hey, don't knock my father's hometown. Newark still has a great neighborhood (Ironbound) and an excellent museum.

Chester has, well...what exactly does Chester have? The only city I have been to worse than Chester was Gary, Indiana.

The state that gave us Ronald Reagan?

Once again, the California Freepers roll out Ronaldus Magnus. Hey guys THAT WAS NEARLY THIRTY YEARS AGO! Most of the people who voted for Reagan are dead or moved to Idaho.

Country music does have some things to say about life its ownself: Ex. "If I have to come down there, he's gonna wish he'd come to the phone - tell ol' 'I Ain't Here!" he better git on home!"

YOU GO GIRL! STAND UP FOR JERSEY. I went hiking in the Palisades on Wedenesday. Its amazing how a place so beautiful can coexist with some butt ugly towns. New Jersey has great beaches on the coast and some charming, rural towns around the Kittatinny mountains (part of the Appalachians!) in the Northwest corner. Let's not forget the BEST DINERS IN THE NATION!

Florida was just one huge steambath - imagine rain without the drops.

I did a five year (1989-1994) stint in Boca Raton and a three year stint (1999-2002) in Miami. SE Florida is the world's largest open air sauna. When it wasn't an open air sauna (May through August) it rained EVERY GD DAY!!! Besides, outside of Miami it is BORING AS HELL. The state also seems to attract many ditzy people.

Still, I miss those beautiful South American chicks in Miami...

C'mon, how can a place dominated by condo communists, gestapo-like homeowner's associations, t--ty bars, the ditziest women on earth and transient terrorists be all that bad. Ditto Palm Beach County, although it has less t--ty bars.
