Which State is the Armpit of America?
Arthur Wildfire! March

Posted on 08/07/2002 4:23:30 PM PDT by Arthur Wildfire! March

Ok fellow freepers. The aristocracy had fun deciding which 'hick town' was the armpit of America. Naturally it had to be rural and conservative. A tad redneck.

They were way off the mark. I would have picked New York prior to 9-11. I mean, good grief. Hellery's husband pardoned bomb terrorists to get her elected, the scandal is exposed to every New Yorker and they elected her anyway? She was silent on the issue for at least a week. But well, perhaps NY had been reborn in blood. So, I'm tempted to give them a pass.

Arkansas? Could that be the armpit of America? The home of NationsBank, Tyson Chicken, Walmart, Web Hubbell, and the Big Creep himself?

Then there is the delightful state of New Jersy, which is batting a thousand at elected scandal-swamped senators. Not only the Torch, but also Corzine.

Some might choose South Dakota. Not only do they keep re-electing Timber Tom [also called Rushmore Daschle], but they also go three days without brushing their teeth. So many choices....

California is the crown jewel of this great country. If any state is worth fighting for, it's California!

Absolutely! I have lived my whole life in California but have done some traveling and have visited more than half of the states in this great country of ours. I have no desire to leave California.

However, I just spent the weekend in San Francisco....and if anybody has only visited that city and thinks that we are all like the freaks and weirdos I saw when we were touring the city (no offense to any San Franciscan FReeeprs intended) they are greatly mistaken. Most of us are just normal folks - who happen to live in the most beautiful state in the union and I would have to include San Francisco in that statement. It's a gorgeous city!

Like I said, I didn't have the demographics. "Few" is a generic term (You know, when someone says "I have a few bucks in the bank."). If you will read my previous statements, you will see that I was speaking of the areas such as Hollywood and San Francisco. I would no sooner assume that a majority of Californians are liberals than one anyone would assume that a majority of Alabamians are rednecks.

You are using the wrong answer for the question I asked. I was joking with you about the limo and the dinner engagement.

As for any state having its share of problems, I never stated otherwise.

The sad thing about this thread is that few post their assumptions and weightings of various factors. Without that, the opinions are not very helpful or for that matter interesting, except for amusement value. I think California and Vermont are wonderful. Why? Because I ascribe different weightings. And of course it varies by individual circumstances. California and Vermont might be more attractive for one with a high net worth. Vermont might be more attractive for one that does not need to earn a living, and can migrate elsewhere during the long winter after it gets old after the New Year. And on and on we go.

Yes, Louisiana was the first state that came to my mind when it comes to the arm pit of America. After all, they sell more bottled water per capita there than anywhere else because the Big River is so polluted. And y'all think Mass. is currupt???? Please!!!!! They ain't go nothin' on Huey Long and Edwin Edwards. When I worked in the oilfields down there and we went on jobs to Mexico my Cajun bosses knew how to cope better with the government folks there better than anyone. They had plenty of practise..........but then I got ta thinkin' about all the good food, all the good times, and all the good friends for life that I have there, and I'm having second thoughts. After all, it is also the most hazardous duty call for an IRS agent so it can't be all bad.

Iowa is by far the armpit of America. It is the only state that didn't double in population in the 20th century, which makes it so pathetic and worthless. It is so myopic about agriculture and farmers that it has driven out almost all other businesses, and its best and brightest people have been leaving for decades.

Des Moines is so pathetic also. The thing about Des Moines is that it has all the provinicalism and narrow-minded thinking of a small town, but has the crime, poverty, and decay of a big city!

Ok, your point is well taken. Excuse me if I get a little uptight when I see threads such as this one, because we conservative Californians are usually trashed in such threads, right along with California's many liberals. I have read threads where FReepers revel in the thought of California falling into the ocean if there were to be another big earthquake (which would kill indiscriminately, conservatives along with liberals).

However, that said..."California is an anus, contained within an armpit." (your statement) are not exactly the words of one who is trying to get along with those of us conservatives who choose to live in the beautiful state that is California.

Yes, but I said that the anus is Hollywood. And, like I said, I know that it is a beautiful state, though I have never been (muh Paw got me one of them there pitcher books with the big fancy words, so I just looked at the pitchers). And, when I said that it is the armpit, I was referring to the socio-political aspect, which encompasses too much envirowhacko influence, the militant homosexuals, militant feminists, etc.

I, too, have read the threads you have mentioned. I would hope that all of them are joking, however, I wouldn't even want the liberals to die such a horrible death.

So, anyone from California, RELAX! I am not expressing a bigoted hatred of Californians.

LEAVE CALIFORNIA? NO WAY. WE LOVE CALIFORNIA

Just a note to all those that are suggesting that we Freepers and or conservatives in California be air lifted out or offer us multiple daily warnings about dire consequences if we stay in California because of the evil leftist, socialist and what they will do to us, etc. Some have even suggested that if we don't pick up and leave California, we can't be real conservatives or are somehow not good Americans.

Let me start off by saying that I love California very much. I am a third generation Californian and my entire family lives here and our dead are buried here.

None of us would ever consider leaving this beautiful state. I mean, where else can you go from coastal plains to the beach, spend a few hours at the beach and then drive to the mountains and ski if you wish. Like the desert? After skiing you can drive down to the desert and go off roading in your jeep or dirtbike and yes, even go target shooting. Yes you can do all this in one day and, on one tank of gas, even if the tank of fuel cost 45 bucks. Not to many places where you can barbeque on Christmas day. (Our family tradition). Not to many places where you can walk around in shorts in January and eat Oranges fresh off your own tree.

We have been all over the United States and there are some very nice places out there. But California they are not. I feel this needs to be said as the negative and the outright attacks, threats and anger towards California have gone WAY beyond the leftist AH Grey Davis and the energy problem. I think some here need to be reminded once in a while why some of us prefer to stay in California and not flee.

I have no time for people that flee trouble or problems. I felt compelled to write this after reading literally hundreds upon hundreds of DAILY post about how bad my state is, accompanied by nasty foul threats, warnings and jokes etc that exceed and go far beyond the current energy problem. One Freeper told me they were tired of my endless bragging about my California after a few times that I boasted about my state. I guess my love for California really hit a nerve with this person. That's to bad, after hundreds of daily slams, jokes, warnings, threats etc I figured someone needed to stand up and say something positive about California.

And for those of you that care, there is no mass exodus here. As a matter of fact as far as real-estate goes there is none in our area available. We have not seen a for sale sign in a long time. A friend of ours in real-estate told us the prices have been driven up partly due to no inventory of existing homes. Folks just aren't selling. We personally know of people that have left California and most return within several years or less. And as I have said before, if a few million did leave, it would not bother us in the least.

We are inordinately aware of our energy problems here and agree most were created by the leftist socialist. We know we have an immigration problem, thanks to the Federal Government. But we would never leave this great, beautiful state.

We have been through earthquakes that occur with absolutely no warning, where we thought the world was coming to an end, literally. So bad, that after the quake was over, there was a line of people waiting to use the bathroom. We have seen fires that looked like the entire planet was on fire, that last for weeks not days. We have had riots that make out of state, big city riots appear as a minor disturbance. Droughts where we have not had a good rain for years, not months. This energy problem is a walk in the park compared to some of the things we Californian's have lived through and experienced. A few blackouts will not scare most of us. Most of us here are pretty tough players and would never consider giving up what we have worked so damn hard for.

PLEASE keep in mind that there are approximately 15 million conservatives, patriots in California. This is our home, and we have no desire to leave. We love our STATE and our NATION and would rather fight than flee.

California is the crown jewel of this great country. If any state is worth fighting for, It's California!
