Ok fellow freepers. The aristocracy had fun deciding which 'hick town' was the armpit of America. Naturally it had to be rural and conservative. A tad redneck.
They were way off the mark. I would have picked New York prior to 9-11. I mean, good grief. Hellery's husband pardoned bomb terrorists to get her elected, the scandal is exposed to every New Yorker and they elected her anyway? She was silent on the issue for at least a week. But well, perhaps NY had been reborn in blood. So, I'm tempted to give them a pass.
Arkansas? Could that be the armpit of America? The home of NationsBank, Tyson Chicken, Walmart, Web Hubbell, and the Big Creep himself?
Then there is the delightful state of New Jersy, which is batting a thousand at elected scandal-swamped senators. Not only the Torch, but also Corzine.
Some might choose South Dakota. Not only do they keep re-electing Timber Tom [also called Rushmore Daschle], but they also go three days without brushing their teeth. So many choices....
I realize that, no offense was meant! For me this thread is all in good fun.
No one of any intelligence would support Mass government. I will give you a hint as to why Libs you may have known(And I still know!) might have favored this Mass system. I am assuming you think SOME libs you have known were intelligent. Mass is basically KEynesian economics run on crack.
No doubt most people in Mass are extremely well educated/intelligent however twisted that education may be...however the level of cronyism/corruption of these same people is beyond belief.
As for crack, Lynn was the largest crack distribution center in the country for a while...but the mass state police (owned by Massport Authority) are too busy checking for inspection sticker violations on the Masspike to be bothered cleaning up that mess!
Look at the Big Dig.
Known in Boston to those handpicked contractors as the: "gravy train"
MAss is run by the Acedamia with the labor vote following them even though they DISAGREE with the Leftist policy. Why... MONEY.
Yup. A stranglehold.
,,, when I've passed thru California and stayed in hotels there have been stickers with messages in English and Spanish in the bathrooms asking me to conserve water wherever possible. I saw an armed holdup not far from Mann's Chinese theatre too. That sort of entertainment is one up from Disneyland. As for the water situation, how can they take on population growth the way it is now?
See post #169. Using the conservative voting index for both Senate and House, Hawaii came in 2nd behind Massachusetts in lowest conservative record. True, it's not the sole indicator of armpitness, but it's a big factor.
This is a good plan. Once you sell a house in California, you can never, ever buy back in there - unless you are fortunate enough to become a lawyer or a plumber.
Arthur, you are hereby required to post the results of your informal survey for those of us who have an opinion, but don't have the patience to wade through 400+ replies.
Please flag me when you post the results. Thanks.
Ah yes, wisdom from a graduate of the Beavis and Butthead University of Higher Learning.
IMO, if there's any state who would actually choose to secede from the union, it would be the Hawaii.
Every state has its pluses and minuses. The real truth? It usually comes down to the people and how many of them you get to know......and how well you get to know them. Just one example: we lived in what is largely considered to be an "armpit" known as Abilene, Texas..........transferred there in the AF, but stayed for a while even after separating. Had a BALL there, because the people were every bit as terrific as the surrounding countryside was bleak, barren, dry, and shi**y-looking. :)
So, Alabamus sucks?
But my vote would have to go to California. The most beautiful parts of the state are inhabitied by the most insufferable and annoying people on earth.
I'm sure it's the same for a person who lives in a state with low incomes and a low education level. If one is educated, has educated friends and colleagues, and associates with mostly like-minded people, it's a good life anywhere.
By the way, I love Gulf Shores; a beautiful beach and very relaxed. Also have a niece who's a Dr. in Brent, AL--bet you don't know where that town is (hint: it's appoximately between Birmingham and Montgomery, on Rt. 5).
What's ironic is that Cal is full of out of staters, from all over the country....Hehehe
Amen, brother. This native San Diegan sends a shout out to Cali. It's the damn transplants ruining the Golden State.
But the world's 7th largest economy is no armpit.
My vote is for New Joisey.
