Which State is the Armpit of America?
Arthur Wildfire! March

Ok fellow freepers. The aristocracy had fun deciding which 'hick town' was the armpit of America. Naturally it had to be rural and conservative. A tad redneck.

They were way off the mark. I would have picked New York prior to 9-11. I mean, good grief. Hellery's husband pardoned bomb terrorists to get her elected, the scandal is exposed to every New Yorker and they elected her anyway? She was silent on the issue for at least a week. But well, perhaps NY had been reborn in blood. So, I'm tempted to give them a pass.

Arkansas? Could that be the armpit of America? The home of NationsBank, Tyson Chicken, Walmart, Web Hubbell, and the Big Creep himself?

Then there is the delightful state of New Jersy, which is batting a thousand at elected scandal-swamped senators. Not only the Torch, but also Corzine.

Some might choose South Dakota. Not only do they keep re-electing Timber Tom [also called Rushmore Daschle], but they also go three days without brushing their teeth. So many choices....

If Hollywood is the anus, what the hell is Berkley?

The late Bob Collins, "that's Bob with one o", of Chicago radio used to describe California as a giant Granola Bar.

"What ain't fruits is nuts."

Well by shape, my birth state of New Jersey of course.

And Florida is something I feel is inappropriate for mixed company mentioning ;-)

Chester is definitely bad, but is it worse than Camden or Newark?

Looks like you picked the state. One I didn't even mention. LOL. California, thus far, has the most votes.

Now, let's get anatomically correct here. If we go with the human model, there are two armpits on opposite sides of the body. That would be, naturally, California and New York. Let's add the nostrils to the mix. That would be Minnesota and Michigan, whose nose hairs are not doing their job of filtering out the impurities (read "dirt") this nation is breathing in. Finally, we would have that nether orifice whose name is synonymous with everything we detest. That would be Arkansas, from whence Bill Clinton was excreted.

The mind boggles.

Newark is getting a little better but Camden is the worst city in the US. I remember a few years ago, outer lying towns were considering erecting a giant fence "Escape from NY" style around the city.

Where I live and was born and raised. California. Used to be the greatest state of all until too many people came here. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful place once. Now it sucks totally. That's why we're moving to Oregon shortly.

Well, you have to first consider what a liberal would consider an armpit state; no militant homosexual agenda (especially in the schools), no unquestioning acceptance of abortion, no militant feminism, no envirowhackos, no avante garde artsy fartsies, etc. Now, I don't know much about the state of Arkansas and, while it did produce Bubba, I would have to say that the other armpit would be Massachussetts. I am going on the overall contributions to society.

New York, because they elect Clintons.

Maybe Boston is a near tie.

Okay, I'll concede the race to California but only because they have a world-class idjit in Grayout Davis. But if it weren't for him we in Taxachusetts would have an almost annual claim to the title. Ted Kennedy has represented the state for over 35+ years. Ted Kennedy could die tomorrow and he'd still win the next time he'd have to run. We have a rep who has never owned a piece of property in MA (Markey). Another rep, the first OUT, had an escort service being run out of his townhouse (Barney Frank). Another ex-rep was found guilty of seducing a minor male page. He got pissed when the House censured him. He retired a couple of years ago so he could keep his campaign treasury, and he gets his pension (Gerry Studds). Another newer member ran on term limits. When it was time for him to go up or out, he had a sudden change of mind. Oh never mind! (Mr. I-am-smarter-than you Meehan). The former president of the state senate was brother to one of the two largest organized crime figures in the state. He in turn snitched to, and bought, the local FBI office. And everyone who was anyone knew it. The last couple of mayors of the city of Boston were both incapable of putting together a single, complete thought.
You got us now, California, but you'll have to deal with us soon!
