I am sick of the whining about FR's finances.
Free Republic has become the Rush Limbaugh of the internet and all this complaining about who is doing what and profiting thus is making me Ill. It's a circular argument and I am tired of it.
Real Conservatives reward success. We honor it.
As a final end to this:
Would you oppose or favor Mr. Robinson making a profit from FR.
Well, DUH!
Do I believe in capitalism? YES.
Should JR make money?
ABSOLUTELY!
POSITIVELY!
DEFINITELY!
Just so I'll know you know, when I first came here I was EMPLOYED by a network chatroom who did not wish for me to use my known nickname while posting. Once I no longer worked for them, I changed to the nickname I have used online since 1996.
As usual, facts have never gotten in the way of your posts.
Or was it a blanket rule for all non-company sites?
Just curious ... I'm used to corporations assuming rights to intellectual property, proprietary secrets and markets but identity's a new one for me.
I'm a conservative Republican who supports business, not a DemocRat socialist whiner.
Are all your posts this factual?
I did think it was odd you'd make such a mistake. (Especially given the fact you're the type to remember your original join number! =)
Anyway ... it's not I who have my facts wrong. It's Admin Mod and RedbloodedAmerican who are going around telling folks the account was your husband's.
If you can answer my question without giving anything important away, I am genuinely curious as to whether a company can control the appearance and behavior of its employees' online identities.
(This is the sort of legal precedent in which my Mom would be terribly interested ... having died a thousand deaths at reading some of my posts and living perpetually in fear my sister and my penning some "Broadway Bound" send-up of our childhood one of these days ... =)
Wrong again.
To: Howlin
Pardon me, Howlin, but I've been a member here longer than you. Since November of 1998. A lurker since March of 1998. I am a monthly contributor. I'm certainly not going to back down to the likes of you. Joe Everyman raised some very serious allegations. This is the first I've heard of them, and I am shocked. Do you have anything substantive to say, or are you just here to attack?

I don't read the bs personal spats as closely as I should and made a poor assumption based on Angelo's posting of dates to prove you wrong.
I apologize.
So ... about the identity thing. Can you answer or are you sending me to the stacks?
I have no idea whether they can or can't. All I know is the did and I did. I wasn't going to make an issue out of it, but you can if you want.
But I was just particularly interested in what insight you might have given the chat-based nature of your internet employ. You would think that would be an arena where anonymity would go hand in hand with the widest possible latitude for determining or controlling a person's identity.
Bogus identities have been a big deal lately and I could see precisely the need for a corporation to ensure accountability where its principals and their online identities were concerned.
Seems to me the lack of accountability where some posters here are concerned (particularly where they assume other identities to stir the pot at Liberty Post or "AF'er" sites) is hypocritical in the extreme given FR's strict policies regarding multiple identities ... particularly for FAB members. It seems to me one of the primary prongs of proving a person's disruptive intent and duplicitous nature.
It's been on my mind of late. That's all.
Regards, Howlin.
FR is a service that many find enjoyable. Whether J. Robinson gets the money through "donations" or by selling the service is really irrelevant to me. (In other words, I think it's safe to say that if the Washington Post, LA Times and all those other rags would let him alone, I think FR would've gone "commercial" a long time ago, so the "donations" aren't really donations at all. They're people with consciences who use this site a good deal of the time, who are "paying" for the service.)
This is my answer to the poll question.
I am very willing to donate when I can to keep this wonderful forum alive. And if the donations go up and above what it costs to run this server, then Jim should have the rest. After all, this WAS his idea!
YOU GO, JIM! WE LOVE YOU!
