(snip)...His name is Dr. George Ayittey....an African, from Ghana, who at present is an economist at American University and the president of Free Africa Foundation, a D.C. think tank...(snip)
You see, Mr. Ayittey said that of Africa's [I think he said] 56 nations, only 15 were democracies. Then, he said that Zimbabwe was collapsing because of the recent elections there were fraudulent without any help from the CIA, and kept in office a monstrous dictator who supported the rape of the nation's agricultural community.
Then he said that the other African nations, all run by black or Semitic [Arab] people, should be ashamed of themselves for keeping silent about it. Then he said that there is no reason why the West should give money to any African nation...(snip)

I have your Africa Watch link bookmarked. As well as the article here!

I think so too. And the Arab countries mostly went Marxist as well when colonialism ended, as a result of many of them getting their university education in France.
Mr. Ayittey is, I think, one of many Africans who could save that continent if only Western aid dried up and stopped supporting the murderous Marxists.

Thank you- that is appreciated.

The despots and their countries will disapear, and the free market countries will prosper. We have stopped fighting the Cold War in Africa but the Russians haven't. They are not doing it to advance communism now, they have taken off that mask and are simply doing what socialists alway do: loot.
Met the new boss, same as the old boss.

I agree, hoosierham!

Robert Kaplan points out in his latest book, "Warrior Politics," that the forces of tyranny in this century will be not only terrorists using Islam as a front for their ambitions, but also the Russian and Albanian mafiosos (and South American drug lords)....all will be using primarily chemical and technological warfare against us.

More practical for them to use the Democrat Party. We saw the foreign mob money pour in under Clinton. It hasn't stopped. Lieberman and Daschle are blocking ANWR for the same reason Clinton put coal in Utah off limits. Nadler is on the cutting edge of this. He wants every nuclear power plant closed.

I'm reminded of the line from scripture.
To whom much is given, much is expected.

That is why a group of my friends (I wish I could go, but my wife is expecting)are going to Africa next week to build a church and dig wells for water supplies in rural Uganda. I still think politically we should not be pouring money over there as it doesn't help. Individuals can make a difference.

It is only individuals who ever make any real difference. May your friends keep safe and enjoy much success.

So do we have a moral obligation to do something to help? Or are we to sit aside and watch millions of people die?I vote we leave them to their own devices. If they can't figure out how to make a decent economy despite all the foreign aid and foreign examples they have access to, there really is no hope for them. Besides, I think you are exaggerating the likely outcome. Africa will limp along as it always has.

As the article makes clear, it is the Democrats who want unaccounted-for money sent to Africa, and you are right -- the Democrats are tight with the mafiosos; I've always believed that Clinton wanted more money sent to Africa not because he gave hoot for them (he made Jesse Jackson an ambassador-at-large to Afr.) but because he was getting kick-backs, for himself personally and for the DNC.
And I agee that the Democrats in Congress, fight the ANWR oil drilling to prevent America cutting its dependence on Arab oil....the Demos are protecting the income to those who are killing so many of us.

That being said I am in no way advocating just throwing money at this problem. Accountability must be maintained, other wise any aid given (public or private) will just be wasted. and 10 years from now things will be the same only worse. As too the particulars of how the aid is distributed and who gets it I really can't say. But being a conserative Christian I lean toward church(ie the body of Christ).
there is a group (whos name escapes me) that provies no/low intrest loans to people starting small businesses, this seems to me a real good way to go.

Christians are certainly free to do as they please, however, I am not a Christian and I do not want my country harnessed to a policy of clutching anchors in deep waters because of some or another "Holy" text.

LUSAKA, Zambia (Reuters) - A Zambian man has been jailed for witchcraft after a human heart was found in his possession, and police are investigating a possible murder, state radio and prosecutors said Thursday.
Moses Chisambo, 60, pleaded guilty to charges of witchcraft and possession of various items used in the trade, including a "witchcraft gun" -- a gun-shaped piece of wood believed to be used by witches to kill people at night.
"A fresh human heart wrapped in a chitenge (wrapping cloth) and a witchcraft gun ... used in mysterious killings of people were found in Chisambo's possession," said the radio.
Chisambo, from the Kabompo district, 590 miles northwest of the capital Lusaka, was jailed for 18 months.
Witchcraft is a criminal offense in Zambia, an officially Christian country where black magic is widely practiced in deeply superstitious rural communities.
Zambia's director of public prosecutions Mukelebai Mukelebai said Chisambo had not been charged with a serious more offence because police were still trying to find out how he got the heart.
"If it is found that murder was committed, then such a charge will follow," Mukelebai told Reuters.

So do we have a moral obligation to do something to help? Or are we to sit aside and watch millions of people die? An incomplete (and dishonest) question.
Do we save millions today? and then watch tens of millions die 20 years hence?
Or hundreds of millions later?
It's a question of when, not if, so long as those people are unwilling to help themselves.

Africa is going to return to it's pre-colonization roots and a lot of people are going to die. So what?
Why do some people persist in looking at the dark side?
The struggle against that oppresive "apartheid" was totally successful.
That solved all the problems.
Africans are much better off now no matter what you say.
