Although I am not surprised at this, it is just disgusting.

Just one more reason to remain a loyal DirecTV subscriber.

Although, they do have some crappy policies. Once I called to remove the sports package from the service and they wanted to charge me 5 bucks for doing this. Bastards...

AOL, Time Warner, insurance companies, lawyers

What other loathsome, disgusting things can we think of?

It is still pretty low.

Couldn't Ted sell a few acres and leave a few Gullah alone and call it even on the cost of the boxes?

I would think this is a homeowners/renters insurance issue. If my car gets swept away by a flood, I don't go to GM and ask for a free replacement.

Karen Hartley, vice president for marketing and communications at Time Warner, said it is the company's policy to bill for damaged boxes, which are leased from the cable company.

Is it also company policy to have bad public relations miss Hartley?

I think Karen will be looking for a new job real soon.

My response, "Not only am I not going to pay for your boxes, I want you to cancel my subscription to your cable service."

ALL Freepers should email aol and let them know that they will never subscribe to their services and campaign to get all relatives and friends who may use the service to cancel AOL. And everyone should put the bill on the insurance claims and then switch to Dish Network.

Why is it disgusting?? Why should Time Warner eat the cost?? Because they are left wing? Is that enough reason?

You might be right.

I don't live in Texas. I don't have cable TV. I don't have a black box. And I don't have insurance.

This issue doesn't really involve me.

But it just strikes me as being scummy in the extreme.

Uhh, Ted Turner has no say in AOL TW and hasn't since he sold out in 1996.

I agree. The bad PR isn't worth the paltry sum they will collect from the flood victims.

Why is it scummy?

If you agree to borrow something, then pay for it if it is damaged or stolen, wouldn't is be scummy to welch on the deal?

The WHINER WELCHERS are the ones acting like scum.

I don't get it. You lease or rent equipment it is YOUR responsibility. READ WHAT YOU SIGN. If they didn't want the burden they shouldn't have signed the Lease.

I bet some of these same people get P!ssed off, when they are actually billed for charges they make on their Credit Cards.

I Am surrounded by stupid People!

They should eat the cost because those floods just happened. It was a force of nature. No one was being negligent or frivilous. Accidents of this type just happen and the owner eats the cost. They own the boxes. Same as if a flood had carried away a rental house. The renter would not pay for the replacement.
