Watch and pray. The rescuers are optimistic that they will reach the cavity where the miners are located by midnight, perhaps as soon as 10pm et.
They just reported that several PA miners were caught in a similar situation thirty years ago AND WERE RESCUED ALIVE AFTER A WEEK IN THE HOLE.

Wasn't this governor involved with the SLC Olympics?

I have a granddaughter in the Navy and her ship is in port, for a couple of weeks in Hawaii.
I beg to differ with them also, altho today was the first day I have seen that much of the governor.
Breaking news first miner on surface

That's actually very heartening to hear. Thanks for pointing it out.
Funny, I was wondering earlier tonight, if it was 30-40 years ago, would this have been covered on network TV? Kinda reminded me of Apollo 13, but maybe it isn't comparable, since potentially trapped in outer space is about as dramatic a story as one can get.
First miner is out!

Maybe you're watching a different show than I, but on those I've watched (CNN, MSNBC, and Fox), humans have been thanked very profusely. Your begrudging the mention of God in this circumstance strikes me as very small, as He (since you don't believe in Him) should be a matter of indifference to you. Will you begrudge those nine miners thanking God when they come up, as surely they will? I don't wish to get into a theological debate on this, but only to ask why you want to throw cold water on a happy moment. Just my .02.

Hope she's enjoying it as much as we do. Great place for the military - I've really enjoyed meeting wives of other service members, not just Army but Navy, Marines, and Air Force.

I am very impressed with all that the humans did (& were able to do because of preparation & know-how) to save these miners! Jennyp, save your anti-god talk for another thread. Your really bummin me out. I am quite sure there is a many God fearing men/women working to get them miners out. So just let it rest.

Yes, I'm a justhe.
The current governor was the Lt. Gov. who moved up when Tom Ridge resigned to become the head of Homeland Security. Don't know why he decided not to run, other than perhaps the fact that he had never intended to ever be governor, and just by fate ended up in that position.

I'm on the west coast, so maybe stay up until they get a couple out. Hell, I'm on the East Coast, and I am staying up to see the men come out.

"P.S. Penn gov. A Gulianni moment????"
Yes, by all means. I have met Scheiker several times, all when he was LT. Gov., and he seems like a nice guy. Not a rocket scientist, but as politicians go - ok. He is sincere, and I believe that he is doing all that he can, and has the Commonwealth of PA doing all that it can to help these miners.
Hate to throw politics into this thing, but life is politics and politics is life. Schweiker is doing everything right here. Before this happened, most Pennsylvanians did not know who he was, or if they did, they blamed him for raising some taxes in this year's budget (he inherieted huge mess from Ridge, who knew when to get outta Dodge!) NOW - most will remember him for doing things right in this crisis. SO - what will he do next? Probably go into the private sector as a lobbyist, and make killer dough for a few years. He can do that and come back in the next 4 years, after making bucks, and people will still remember him for doing this right. He is pro-life, and from what I know, a conservative kinda guy. We could do a lot worse than having him in national office (Ridge, Spectre).
He is long-winded when giving speeches though. Trust me, I have sat through some boring ones of his. He does the whole Bill Clinton thing: "And meet Joe Blow, who up until a year ago had a crack problem and used to sell his kids on the internet. But now, Joe has turned his life around.....

To: Minnesota Lady
Wasn't this governor involved with the SLC Olympics? You might be thinking of Mitt Romney. He is currently running for governor of Massachusetts.
To: Minnesota Lady
True, but we all know they were there. The security around the president's visit to NYC had to be tighter than at any appearance in recent memory.

I don't think many people outside of the coal region watched any of this. I'm back in San Antonio for training, but I've been hitting my knees to pray for these guys since I found out about it. Lots of folks across the nation are praying for these men. God bless you and yours.
