"P.S. Penn gov. A Gulianni moment????"
Yes, by all means. I have met Scheiker several times, all when he was LT. Gov., and he seems like a nice guy. Not a rocket scientist, but as politicians go - ok. He is sincere, and I believe that he is doing all that he can, and has the Commonwealth of PA doing all that it can to help these miners.
Hate to throw politics into this thing, but life is politics and politics is life. Schweiker is doing everything right here. Before this happened, most Pennsylvanians did not know who he was, or if they did, they blamed him for raising some taxes in this year's budget (he inherieted huge mess from Ridge, who knew when to get outta Dodge!) NOW - most will remember him for doing things right in this crisis. SO - what will he do next? Probably go into the private sector as a lobbyist, and make killer dough for a few years. He can do that and come back in the next 4 years, after making bucks, and people will still remember him for doing this right. He is pro-life, and from what I know, a conservative kinda guy. We could do a lot worse than having him in national office (Ridge, Spectre).
He is long-winded when giving speeches though. Trust me, I have sat through some boring ones of his. He does the whole Bill Clinton thing: "And meet Joe Blow, who up until a year ago had a crack problem and used to sell his kids on the internet. But now, Joe has turned his life around.....

I think you just hit on what he'll do after making some private sector dough. Specter can't last forever.
