Watch and pray. The rescuers are optimistic that they will reach the cavity where the miners are located by midnight, perhaps as soon as 10pm et.

They just reported that several PA miners were caught in a similar situation thirty years ago AND WERE RESCUED ALIVE AFTER A WEEK IN THE HOLE.

They have to take the drill bit out before they put the phones down the hole. Removing the drill will take an hour or so because it is providing a pressure seal that will be maintained with other equipment that has to be moved into place.

Well, that's good news. Those miners are tough. As would be expected of Pittsburgh.

Water was not said to be 50 F, but 59-60 F. Still, I think this area has not had much water in it the last day or two, for areas well below had already been pumped dry. Hot air, which ought to be freely available this time of year, has been pumped in.

Humans esp. younger males, can be quite tough against cold and exposure, lack of food or water, etc.--they are much tougher than animals, which they have to baby to bring them through a disaster...

I will say that Fox does a much better job on some things. Especially their coverage of President Bush. They always carry his speeches live as he's been traveling and campaigning these past couple of months.

When he went to China they were the only ones that carried his plane landing and the greeting ceremony live. It was 3:00 a.m. and I flipped to see if either CNN or MSNBC had it and they didn't.

CNN does have better live weekend coverage, but you have to put up with their commentary.

Fortunately, most of us can flip around. But if I had to choose only one, I'd still take Fox, hands down.
