Water was not said to be 50 F, but 59-60 F. Still, I think this area has not had much water in it the last day or two, for areas well below had already been pumped dry. Hot air, which ought to be freely available this time of year, has been pumped in.
Humans esp. younger males, can be quite tough against cold and exposure, lack of food or water, etc.--they are much tougher than animals, which they have to baby to bring them through a disaster...
