TEHRAN, July 23 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) - Iran would repulse a U.S. military strike in a swift and powerful fashion, Defense Minister Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani said in remarks published Tuesday, July 23, amid U.S. hostility towards the Islamic regime.
"Iran would answer in minimum time, reciprocally and in a powerful manner any military attack against its political, military, media and social bodies," Shamkhani was quoted saying by the Jam-e-Jam daily.
"Any fast and short term action by the United States against the Islamic republic will receive multiple and varied responses," he warned.
The Defense Minister cited a number of factors which he said added up to a growing threat to Iran from the United States.
The two are longtime foes who severed ties after the 1979 hostage-taking of the U.S. Embassy staff in Tehran, but their relations deteriorated further this year after U.S. President George W. Bush labeled Iran part of an "axis of evil" along with Iraq and North Korea.
On July 13, Bush was accused of brazen intervention by Iranians of all factions when he urged Tehran in a statement to abandon "uncompromising, destructive policies" and pledged that a reforming, modernizing Iran would have "no better friend" than the United States.
President Mohammad Khatami had earlier dismissed Bushs offer of U.S. support for democratic changes in the Islamic republic.
I want to assure you there are no differences in Iran on the idea of defending the territorial integrity of the country and safeguarding its independence, Khatami said, urging U.S. leaders to apologize to the people and government (of Iran).
He called for U.S. leaders to apologize to the people and government (of Iran) and thus breach the wall of mistrust which separates the two countries.
Khatami said Iran was determined to follow the path towards progress, freedom and independence without any consideration for threats.
Meanwhile, Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards have accused reformists of being "pawns" in a possible U.S. plan to invade Iran, claims that enraged reformists on Monday, July 22, news agencies reported.
The guards, who are under the direct control of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, have said reformists are "challenging values of the (1979 Islamic) revolution" and are "being pawns at the time of possible military invasion" of the United States against Iran.
Reformist lawmaker Rajabali Mazrouei on Monday reacted angrily to the guards' claims, which were made in a statement Saturday, July 20.
"Intervention of the guards in factional politics in favor of conservatives is illegal, irresponsible and harmful to the country's interests," Mazrouei told The Associated Press.
Mazrouei defended Iran's reformist movement, which despite the election of reformist President Mohammad Khatami has been stifled by conservative clerics who rule key state institutions, including the judiciary.
"We (reformists) oppose comments by foreign governments in support or opposition to any political faction in Iran. Foreign governments should not interfere in Iran's internal affairs," Mazrouei said.
Couldn't say "we will fight back". Nope. Have to have some long winded sentence.
And what is "Jam-e-Jam"? A new rap DJ or Smuckers product?
With what? Camels?
Yeah, and it only cost them 1 million people and 10 years to do it
So long as the border is so porous that 800,000 people and 200,000 tons of drugs can cross it each year without the ability of the US GOVERNMENT (Meixco could stop this traffic but then the Mexican politicians and drug lords, assuming they are different people, would take a financial hit) to stop it, bad guys and their property can cross, as well. Homeland security must start by securing the homeland.
So make it fast and LONG-term.
BAHAHAHA! Here, let me guess a couple of their varied responses:
1. "Holy SH*T!!!"
2. "Mercy! Mercy!"
3. Fire 3 SA missles, all of which miss and fall on some outlying camp of Bedouins (sp), and blame Israel.
4. Burn one pathetic effigy of Bush wrapped in an American flag (damn they like burning effigies, no?), then all go back to their bombshelters when the CNN reporter tells the cameraman, "Ok, cut and print. Thank Allah, that was our last flag. I'm glad I remembered to bring 50."
5. Have Jane Fonda take pictures of herself draped across their AA batteries.
6. Adapt the current Palestinian method of dressing like the IDF to avoid targeting.
7. Attempt to launch mid range missles at Israel which accidentally fall into the West Bank. Blame Israel for not being "near enough to reach, which blocks the peace process."
8. Abject surrender before bomb one detonates.
I suspect that they are more threatened of a post-Saddam Iraq than the status quo and are making these gestures in an attempt to deter an American attack. Their regime is beset with a young populace eager to go western. Having a long term U.S presence in Iraq, threatens their power base internally, IMO.
Ill bite your head off.
IMHO we just do it and absorb the blows. There is no other path.
