NEW YORK -- In the 1990s, the Northeast region lost the equivalent of the population of Connecticut and relied heavily on new immigrants to support its labor force, according to a Northeastern University study.
The Northeast's share of the country's population growth has declined since the 1930s, but the '90s marked the first time that the region would have had negative population growth if immigrants had not moved in.

When people think of "immigrants", many naturally think of Mexicans, Haitians, "illegals", and similar such.
The DLS (dirty little secret) is that we haven't had a discussion about the character of recent immigrants...they are overwhelmingly Muslim from the Middle East and Pakistan. That demand for teachers of English as a Second Language doesn't refer to Spanish fluent.
Whole areas of Brooklyn, like Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Flatbush, and New Utrect, not to mention Queens are being taken over, as are the older cities of New Jersey.
In 9-11 itself, Pakistan lost 345 of its own citizens, Turkey lost 115, even Yemen lost 8.
Taxes may play a part, but the Muslim colonization of certain parts of the Great Satan continues unabated!
The details of the study are available in the full report, Moving Out and Moving In: Out-migration and Foreign Immigration in the Northeast Region and New England During the 1990s, which was funded by Teresa and H. John Heinz III Foundation.
BTW, the full text only discusses the NE's ability to call on federal tax dollars, with no mention of state/local taxes' effect on intranational population movements.
And, at the risk of being flamed by border-state FReepers, these immigrants are only taking the jobs formerly held by previous members of the poor class and middle class teenagers.
In Brooklyn, which until 1898 was a separate city, 3 million residents, the Arab Quarter centered around Atlantic Avenue, not far from Brooklyn Heights. Only there did one see Storefront signs in Arabic.
Starting about five years ago, that began to change rapidly. Now those businesses can be found in Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, Bensonhurst, etc. And many of those businesses had Website URLs---frequently the only recognizibly English language part of the sign.
The new Muslim residents keep up with the "old country" via the Internet. Think about it!
This born-and-raised in Brooklyn Freeper has a question.
Do you know if the Muslims spreading through the fabled Borough of Churches are from the Arab states, or Pakistan?
Their settlement pattern sounds identical to that of yesteryear's Jews, Italians, Irish, etc.
I don't hit the "old neighborhoods" much anymore, most recently cutting down Ocean Parkway to get to a Brooklyn Cyclones game.
Hard to tell, but the women cover their heads in traditional Muslim fashion, and the signs are definitely in Arabic. However, from the death toll on 9-11, 345 Pakistani citizens, all leagal residents...that is more than 12% of the total. Add the Turks and Yemenis, and you get almost 17% of the total killed. Subtract the some 500 Police, Fire, Emergency, Port Authority, etc. Professionals killed in the line of Duty, and the Citizens of Muslim nations killed reaches a staggering 20%, one in five "civilians". Working backwards, at least some must have been traders employed by Cantor Fitzgerald.
BTW, on Fifth Avenue in Bay Ridge, about the only businesses not owned by Muslims are the Banks.
Gotta leave something for the Jews! :)
Seriously, IIRC, not a single Saudi died 9/11. Damn big complex, with lots of finance types, not to have a single Saudi, eh?
Meanwhile, 3.1 million foreign-born immigrants moved into the Northeast
More than 3.1 million foreign-born immigrants moved into the Northeast
And 2.7 million young, educated residents fled
How can the liberal Democrats and RINOs stay in political power, if the educated, born-in-America stay and the uneducated, unskilled, foreign born don't move in?
Oh, I think I see your point, now.
LOL!
