Do you know if the Muslims spreading through the fabled Borough of Churches are from the Arab states, or Pakistan?
Their settlement pattern sounds identical to that of yesteryear's Jews, Italians, Irish, etc.
I don't hit the "old neighborhoods" much anymore, most recently cutting down Ocean Parkway to get to a Brooklyn Cyclones game.
Hard to tell, but the women cover their heads in traditional Muslim fashion, and the signs are definitely in Arabic. However, from the death toll on 9-11, 345 Pakistani citizens, all leagal residents...that is more than 12% of the total. Add the Turks and Yemenis, and you get almost 17% of the total killed. Subtract the some 500 Police, Fire, Emergency, Port Authority, etc. Professionals killed in the line of Duty, and the Citizens of Muslim nations killed reaches a staggering 20%, one in five "civilians". Working backwards, at least some must have been traders employed by Cantor Fitzgerald.
BTW, on Fifth Avenue in Bay Ridge, about the only businesses not owned by Muslims are the Banks.
