Was Jesus 'gay'?

One of the fastest growing churches among homosexuals in America and around the world is the Metropolitan Community Church – a "Christian" church specifically for "gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered communities." The MCC was originally started by openly homosexual ex-Baptist minister, Troy Perry, who after the discovery and disclosure of his homosexuality, losing his license as a minister, a divorce and estrangement from his wife and children, as well as a failed suicide attempt, "rediscovered" his rainbow-colored vocation and ministry.

From his Los Angeles living room in 1968, Perry and his initial 12 members began their "gay church." According to their website, in 2003, the MCC will embody over 77,000 members, spanning more than 17 countries around the globe. Tens of thousands of so-called faithful "Christian" homosexual men and women flock weekly to MCC-affiliated churches worldwide to be "reaffirmed" with the message that God loves them and "gay is OK."

The Rev. Troy Perry, highly regarded in gay circles, has been an invited guest to the White House on four separate occasions from 1977 to 1997 – three alone by former President Bill Clinton. In 1997, Clinton "celebrated" Perry as an "honoree" at a White House breakfast recognizing 100 national "spiritual leaders" in America.

I don't know where this new "open and affirming" world would be today without this modern-day homosexual prophet and "gay"-savvy biblical interpreter. According to Perry and the MCC's official website, for over 2,000 years, Christians including myself, have been interpreting the Bible wrong. Maybe you have, too. Did you know:

In the immoral days in which we live, homosexual men and women are grasping for every possible straw to get acceptance for their destructive, aberrant lifestyle. The secret gay agenda has infiltrated the media, Hollywood, the public schools, the government and, yes, now even religion. How sad to say homosexuals have gone as far as to try and hijack and pervert biblical Christianity and the Gospel of Jesus Christ – all in the name of "gay sex." And America, we've let it happen.

As a man who once lived as a homosexual, my heart continually breaks for those lost in the web of the "gay" deception – a life of sadness, loneliness, pain and even death. Yet a godly anger within me burns even more for those who have the gall and nerve to try and make my Lord and Saviour, the One who rescued me from the tentacles and grips of the homosexual lifestyle, into the "God of Gay."

It may be a "rainbow day" for these misguided men and women now ... in biblical terms, "the pleasures of sin for a season." I highly doubt that it will be as colorful a day when they hear the words from the God whom they thought was so "open and affirming": "Get away from, ye that work iniquity ... I never knew you."

May they be miraculously reached with the truth in love, before it's too late.

I don't know....seems to me there are a lot of "Christians" here at FR who claim to have a committed relationship with Christ, yet they spew the most vile, hate-filled lies.

Hey there mille 99. I'm a Christian, and as such, I'm taught to love everyone, including my enemies and including homosexuals. I have homosexual friends that I've cared for over the years through all sorts of horrendous and sickening problems. But I hardly think homosexuality is normal - and I have compassion for those who suffer from this disorder. I belive we harm homosexuals when we tell them their often compulsive behavior is 'normal' (anal intercourse, fisting, anonymous partners???). In the Catholic Church, 95% of the molestations associated with the recent scandal were caused by homosexual priets (a minority) (homo)sexually molesting thousands of teenage boys. Certainly not the hallmark of a normal behavior. Most Christians don't believe that God gave us our sexual organs to put up the rectum of another male. They believe we were given such to aid in the creation of new life on this earth. That's not hate. I have compassion for the kleptomaniac, the schizophrenic and the homosexual. They all need help.

The majority of our founding fathers were deists...

Some lies don't get accepted regardless of how often they are repeated.

Where does the Holy Bible say Jesus was not married? In the Jewish tradition, Rabbi's were married, and Jesus was often times called "Rabbi."

Rabbi was a term of respect for 'Teacher', another term that many used to address Jesus. I'm sure Jewish teachers were also married but the fact that scripture doesn't specifically state that Christ was not married means little. Scripture doesn't mention a lot of personal facts about Jesus but this doesn't automatically make anything unmentioned a fact.

Common sense tells us that the Son of God didn't have need or time for a spouse. His ministry was a brief 3 1/2 years and he was crucified at age 33, which he knew would happen. To start assuming that Jesus 'may have' been married because he was sometimes called 'Rabbi' and Jewish tradition had Rabbis' married is foolish and leads to the kind of perverted and totally absurd conclusions about Christ and others in the bible that the MCC 'church' is pushing.

...but a twisted teaching of homophobic, misguided infallible men?

How can infallible men come up with twisted interpretations of Scripture? Wouldn't that put the lie to their infallibility?

Being a San Francisco native and resident, I have heard all of these scurrilous and flimsy contortions of scripture explaining away the complete lack of divinely-sanctioned homosexuality before -- with the exception of the accusation that Ruth and Naomi were lovers...absolutely incredible.

I presume that in the translation that the MCC uses, Romans 1:26-28 is either blotted out in black marker as if classified by the FBI or just missing.

However, homosexuality comes naturally to those who are homosexual. As long as they leave you alone, who cares?

Fair question, mille. I never really did - until what homosexuals wanted started to affect my kids. I'm sure you're aware of all that the Boy Scouts has been through in the past couple of years. We had a similar situation here in town, where (after the Supreme Court ruled that the scouts doesn't have to accept homosexual scoutmasters) a young active homosexual male decided out of the blue (with loud support from the Reformed Jewish temple in town) he wanted to be an assistant scoutmaster in my sons' troop. First, this couldn't happen, because the national organization wouldn't allow it. But they wanted to meet. I met with them and laid out my honest reasons against it: 1) I wouldn't let my teenage daughter go out on overnight camping trips in close quarters with heterosexual men; therefore I wouldn't allow my teenage sons to do the same with a man who has a sexual attraction to men (and likely, teenage boys); 2) I didn't want my sons to be influenced by the way homosexuals think (wow, that man over there's got a great ass.. or whatever); 3) the vast, vast majority of parents want male role models for their children who advance heterosexuality and family life. I was never rude to anyone, but I was called a 'hater', 'bigot', 'monster' etc.etc. I was told repeatedly that this young man had a 'right' to be in close quarters with my sons. - The same in school. You agree that homosexuality is not normal - but now that's being taught in many, many public schools. In some schools, teenagers are actually encouraged to go out and try homosexual sex. In short, this never mattered to me much until homosexuals started 1) to try to get involved with the upbringing of my kids and 2) to try and inculcate them with values which are far from my own. Finally, my beloved Church has been eaten away at from the inside by hundreds a homosexual molester priests who've spiritually and physically raped thousands of teenage boys. They are entitled to their own lives. They do not have the right to get near or influence my children in any way. I would say to them, please live and let live as well. I'm angry about the Boy Scout thing, and I'm boiling mad about the Catholic Church thing.

That's because us Christians can look at the world with our eyes open to see the truth while the SAD apologists have to look at the world through their 'homosexual' filters.

I actually spit Coke out of my mouth reading that sentence. I think it breaks down to "I am objective in my analysis of everything, and you are not". However, you claim it's your "Christian" values that allow you to be objective. Your label of someone else (a SAD, whatever that is) apparently causes them to be unobjective. You do realize you've basically disqualified your objectivity in your first sentence? Also, your sentence seems to conflict with an old Biblican idea.....something about being without sin and casting stones.

And what in heck are Homosexual Filters?? Are they like Elton John's giant pink sunglasses?

In the case of Scripture, the cultural and social context of Biblical times was very different from our own.

And we all know that every cultural and social change in the Bible is always OK with God, right? (Don't answer -- trick question. But I shouldn't have had to tell you that).

For example, when the Bible says God commands humanity to "increase and multiply," remember, among other things, this was addressed to Israel, a small, desert nation surrounded by many enemies. They needed to "multiply" just to survive.

What does that have to do with homosexuality? Is it the MCC's contention that the option of same-sex copulation was a holy option, but that the Almighty just wanted them to concentrate on the baby-making type of bed-bouncing?

Secondly, the Bible began as an oral tradition and then was written in ancient languages (primarily Hebrew in the Old Testament and Greek in the New Testament) over many centuries. It was copied and re- copied in the original languages, and then translated into other languages. As anyone who speaks or reads more than one language will understand, translating requires interpretation and personal judgement. Even with the best of intentions, translators and copyists are quite capable of human error.

So what makes the MCC so sure that the all the "human error" was made regarding the Scriptures' solid disapproval of homosexuality? As Dana Carvey's Church Lady used to say, "Isn't that conveeeeenient?"

Is what I just wrote "Gay-bashing?" Only to people who let the Gay-stapo do their thinking for them. Hopefully, you have half as open a mind about my motivation as you do toward the truth of the Bible.

Is This Gay Behavior Sick?

"... In Chapter Six, they outline “ten categories of misbehavior,” drawn from their own experiences, wide reading and thousands of hours of conversation with hundreds of other gays..."

Fair enough. I understand a bit about the nuances of Biblical translation, having studied Greek while working on my Masters of Divinity Degree. However, a sentence like "The apple is red" is pretty straightforward, and not that difficult to translate effectivly into most languages.

The same works with "Homosexuality is bad". This also in not a difficult idea to translate effectivly. Homosexuality is only mentioned seven times in the whole Bible, four in the OT and three in the NT. In ALL instances, however, it is spoken about in a negative way. There is no positive illustration of homosexuality or homosexual lifestyle ANYWHERE in Scripture (David and Johnathan were just really good friends; get over it!).

I didn't say the Bible (notice how I capitalized "Bible" --- good Christians know to do that ---- it's like writing "God" instead of "god") was corrupt. I said people have corrupted it for their own means ---- just as many here corrupt the loving teachings of Jesus so that they can (they think) justify verbally beating people up.

This statement indicts the "church" in question. Perhaps the MCC is corrupting the teachings of Jesus to justify their immoral lifestyle. One doesn't have to corrupt the meaning of the text that says it's an abomination to God when a man lies with another man.
