Report: Mom Whose Kids Died In Car Is Pregnant
Children Die After Being Left In Car For Three Hours
POSTED: 9:01 a.m. EDT July 1, 2002
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- A Detroit mother who is charged with murdering her two children is also pregnant with a third child, according to a Detroit television station's report.
Oakland County prosecutors are concerned about the safety of Tarajee Maynor's (pictured, left) unborn child. The 25-year-old woman reportedly left her 10-month-old daughter and 3-year-old son in the car Friday while getting her hair done at a Southfield, Mich., salon. The children reportedly died after being in the car for about three hours in sweltering heat.
Prosecutors said that Maynor knew the dangers of the heat.
"She knew it was hot. She put the kids in the car. She cracked the window," Oakland County Assistant Prosecutor Kate McNamara said. "She spent over three hours in a salon, never checking on them once."
Maynor also drove around three hours with the dead children in her car before taking them to the hospital, according to prosecutors. She reportedly told police that she was trying to figure out what to do. She eventually dropped them off at a local hospital and told investigators that she had been abducted and raped, Detroit TV station WDIV-TV reported.
Police said that she finally confessed to leaving the children inside the car.
The children died from hyperthermia, according to reports. Dr. Frank McGeorge of Beaumont Hospital said that the children got too hot to survive.
Maynor remained silent during her weekend arraignment. She is being charged with two counts of felony murder. If convicted, she could spend the rest of her life in prison.
Maynor is currently being held in jail without bond. The judge agreed to keep her in jail until her case is decided.
Maynor's family said that she has always been a good mother and they were unsure why this incident would have happened.

The local state protective services should move to claim this child once it is born, in the name of protecting the child.

Poor kids.... that's a crappy way to check out.
Makes you wonder how horribly she must have treated them while they lived.

But doesn't her hair look swell.......?

She could solve this by sitting in a hot car for 3 hours.

Of course.

No, the state could lay claim to guardianship of that unborn child... and prohibit the mom from aborting. Then, the state would be treating the unborn child as a person with rights as a ward of the state.

The same thing was reported about Andrea Yates and it turned out not to be true.
Could be a TV station's way of getting ratings.
If it is true, it will just help her defense "Your honor, I didn't know what I was doing. I'm preganant and all these hormones and...."

I wonder how many fathers will attend the funeral . . .

Notice that there is no mention of a father in this sorry story.

The first two would no doubt have preferred to go that way, than the way they did. Dying from heat is slow and involves unspeakable suffering.

Yeah, like this was a sudden lapse. I think not!

No, CPS is always evil, haven't you read any other threads on FR?

CPS = Child Protective Services. They are a great tool for most communities, but sadly lack enough enforcement powers in most states in America. In other nations, CPS are more like law-enforcement, to ensure that state parenting guidelines are followed. I wonder if CPS workers in America should be re-evaluated and re-tooled as law enforcement? That way, scum like this mom could be dealt with swiftly. Of course, with more enforcement powers, CPS could also interview and investigate reports more quickly as well and create a more aware parent population that will be less likely to abuse or kill a child, if they are aware of CPS watching in the wings.

The salon she went to must not have been very popular, OTHERWISE HOW IN THE WORLD DID NOBODY SEE THESE CHILDREN IN THE CAR FOR THREE HOURS CLAWING AND SCREAMING TRYING TO GET OUT?

Next time they kick through a door and find 'Mom' homeschooling her kids, it's rat-a-tat-tat, problem solved.
