Bike For Life, Co-Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Seton Hall University was ashamed of these orgainzations
Dear Pro-Life Friends in New Jersey, At this point I went into a very strong explanation to him about that their position not to air our spot would be an outright support of abortion. He then proceeded to inform me that this was not his position or views but that it was decided by the station manager. After our discussion he said that he would go back to the station manager with my position and call me back the next day.
Below is an account of an encounter G. Miguel Perez-Santalla had with WSOU radio station of Seton Hall University when he tried to advertise the "BIKE FOR LIFE" which took place on June 9, 2002.
I spoke to Mike Collazo - the faculty advisor to WSOU. He denied this
account and claimed that Miguel was seeking an endorsement of the event by the radio station. Mike Collazo says that because of the Fairness Doctrine that if Seton Hall endorsed "BIKE FOR LIFE" they would also have to run advertising for pro-abortion groups.
Miguel emphatically denies he was seeking an endorsement. He sent
advertising copy about the event. The key phrase explaining the purpose of the event was edited by WSOU. The offending phrase was:
"'BIKE FOR LIFE' Raises money for pregnant women and mothers in need."
It is outrageous that WSOU would censor this message, which simply explained the purpose of the event.
After I verified this with Miguel I called back Mike Collazo several times, but this time he did not return my call. Please call Mike Collazo at (973)761-9520 to register your opinion about this incident. Ask him to speak to the staff at the radio station to assure that such an incident will not happen again.
Sincerely,
Fr. Peter West

Dear Fr. Peter,
On May 24 at 11:24 am I sent a fax of a 30 second spot for BIKE FOR LIFE to WSOU to the attention of Chris King, for inclusion in their public service announcements.
On May 25 about 3 o'clock in the afternoon Chris called me and informed me that his station would not be able to air our spot because they could not take a position on the issue because they are a Catholic University. I asked him what issue, and after much back and forth he said the abortion issue.
On May 26 at about 3:30 in the afternoon Chris called me back and informed me that they would air the spot but with one major change. They were going to remove the sentence explaining the purpose of the fundraiser. The sentence was the following: "BIKE FOR LIFE" Raises money for pregnant women and mothers in need. Apparently the station manager thought it was a Pro-life statement and did not want to air it. Poor Chris then repeated to me their mantra about they couldnt take a position because they are a "CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY" radio station. I asked him for the station manager name, he asked me why I needed it, wasn't I happy that they were going to air the spot? I said of course I am content that we will get some exposure but that I wanted his name to pursue this matter at a later date. The station manager's name was Mike Collazo.
After this I did receive telephone calls from persons who heard the
announcement on the radio who called to inquire the purpose of the fundraiser. Hence though I did not myself here the spot I know it was edited. Attached is the original fax in PDF format for all those that are interested.
After this occurrence I notified my brother Knight, Kevin Morrisey, who
contacted persons at Seton Hall but did not receive any clear authoritative response about their actions.
But after all is said and done. What at this Catholic University are they teaching our children that they are not aware of the simple fact that to be Catholic is to be Pro-Life?!
Seton Hall orders campus radio station to change heavy metal format
Now, please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the "Fairness Doctrine" ONLY apply to elections? That is, no one can FORCE you to air "both sides" of a public issue unless it is formally up for a referendum by the electorate, I don't think.
Either this guy, a college professor, is ignorant of this fact, or he is deliberately lying.
Either way, it's pretty scarey.
Remember that Newarkie Dennis Kozlowski, the recently indicted head of Tyco, is a Satan Hall alumnus.
The McCarrick era was not so good to the High Schools either. My cousin has some interesting stories about the leftist, godless BS that went on in her HS in the early-mid 90s.
As you point out, there is an "equal time" requirement that only applies to certified political candidates.
So, yes, they're either liars or stupid. Or, possibly, both.
Better let Ted Kennedy and Tom Harkin know about this breaking news!
This is insanity.
