The missing jewelry is simply part of the staging -- making it look as though robbery was part of the motive.

Just more subterfuge.

Now that I think about it, if one were to stage a crime scene by removing the victim's jewelry, one just might decide to take the stuff to Luray and drop it into one of the hundreds of deep vents -- if one knew about those vents.

Ingmar was the sort who would have taken the ring. It wouldn be an afterthought, secondary to his main intent, but he would do it.

Not knowing if and where they found the small bones of her hands, the ring might have washed away, fallen away, or been pick up my an animal (many small critters hoard such finds) and transported away.

Plus, the missing ring wouldn't really be important for "staging"...after all, if they are going to the trouble of binding her hands and killing her, the :stager" sould want it to look like a sexually motivated murder. Taking the ring or not taking the ring wouldn't really be that important to staging such a scene.

The simplest answer is - no staging. She was assaulted and raped and killed and the killer took her ring or it has, through natural means, been dispersed from the crime scene.

ALSO, If they are just looking for the bracelet and ring, does this mean they have found the watch? Where?

"May 22, 2001 Chandra Levy's remains were found on a wooded hillside in Rock Creek Park by a man walking his dog..."

"The body was identified from dental records. Investigation at the scene produced Chandra's ring bearing the initials "CL". The body was decomposed and not intact. Police found knotted stretch leggings and surmised that Chandra may have been retrained with the knotted clothing. The skull they found was "not pristine and the bones were scattered. [Emphasis mine.]
The Chandra Levy Chronology (Rev. #9)

They found a ring bearing CL initials. Questions, since the body was not intact the skull was identified by dental records and not necessarily the rest of the skeletal remains. Though claiming to find a properly initialized ring leads one to believe that the skeletal remains are Chandra's, it could have also been an intentional planting of evidence by the criminal. Which would be good diversion if the the skeletal remains are from a different person. If the skull was detached that's cause to do DNA tests to ensure a bone match or planting false evidence.

Cops said several items were missing from the site in Rock Creek Park where Levy's bones were found: a ring, her house keys and a gold bracelet her family says was a gift from Condit.

Sgt. Joe Gentile said the disappearance of the items does not automatically point to robbery: Animals and birds sometimes make off with shiny objects.

Police say Guandeque is not a suspect. The Washington Post reported that he passed a lie detector test last year.

How could she take a taxi? Her money, credit cards, etc were found in her apartment.

If she was going to meet someone she knew she could have just taken a couple of dollars for the cab ride, knowing she would get a ride back to her apartment.

But she would've taken the cell phone, unless she was meeting Condit. That's why the cell phone is interesting. The question is did she leave it behind, or was it placed there later in order to finger Condit? And I can't believe Condit isn't crucial to this case. He either did it, or he know who did and/or why.

I've taken a taxi when I haven't had money or credit card on me. I just told the driver the truth and that we'd have to stop at the nearest ATM on the way. Another time, I told him I would have to go in the house and get his money when we got there. No problem.

Kattracks, they aren't calling anyone a suspect yet. But he is, just as Condit is. They have not ruled him out and they can't rule him out.

It would be a mistake for police or anyone else to put much stock in the polygraph. FOr one, they are junk tests in general. I'd be interested to see the results on questions asked about his two victims...perhaps he "passed" questions there, too. Sexually motivated murderers have weird brains, they are masters of denial, and they are more likely to be true sociopaths. Their ability to lie without making the needle jump is better than the average bears.

He either did it, knows about it, OR HE MET OR PLANNED TO MEET HER THAT DAY - maybe he just knew her plans to go to the park.

The possibility that someone else unrelated to Condit jumped her is real.

It's real, but I doubt it. Cause if he didn't do it, or knows who did it, or why it was done, why isn't Condidit co-operating? He's got nothing to lose now. If he's innocent.

Is there some report today that Condit will not speak to Police again? I think he does have criminal exposure, but not necessarily because he killed his girlfriend (or had her killed, or knows she was killed on account of him, etc). He met her that day, or had plans to, IMO. But he followed his own advice to another "girlfriend" - if something happens to me, get away fast! Not that I think she died during sex games with Condit. I'm talking in a more figurative sense. I think he was so used to covering up, all his Condit-defense-plans kicked in. He didn't come forward even when he knew something was wrong (she didn't show up, or she didn't call - certainly by the time her parents called). Avoiding suspicion and scandal and other scandals from emerging, was his intent. The craven bastard kept trying to hide even when her life was at stake. His secrecy was more important than any investigation.

For the perfect ironic kick in the pants , his selfish lies brought about everything he hoped to prevent by lying - scandal, suspicion, a ruined career. And since he lied to police, maybe even some jail time.

OK, what if Condit called Chandra, told her to meet him, "just to talk" (to mollify her?), picked a spot where it would be unlikely they would be seen, or recognized, (his wife was in town so his apartment was out of the question, and he never went to her place) a spot she apparently was unfamiliar with, so she looks it up on the internet, a fact he is unaware of). She leaves her phone behind (she won't need it, she's meeting him), takes a couple of dollars to pay for a cab (remember, the dogs lost her scent at the curbside in front of her apartment) and doesn't take any ID (he told her never to bring any when she met him). They meet and the conversation doesn't take the direction Chandra was hoping it would. She becomes hysterical, perhaps making threats (which she may have first done when he ended their relationship). He panics and does something, which causes her death (strangulation?). He panics further, dragging her body into the underbrush and hiding it as best he could. He realizes she is wearing the bracelet he gave her so he removes it, and any other jewelry she is wearing (he was a nut about ID). He goes back to his apartment, cleans up and goes back to his office.

Keep in mind that Condit had told her never to discuss their relationship, or it would be over, so he was probably unaware that she had. I think he was totally unprepared when the Levys brought out all of this information.

In this morning's news DC Police are searching the grassy knoll where Moongirl's skeleton remains were found using highly trained metal detecting dogs, a special bread, the name now escapes me (metallicas?) So far they've found seven pennies, a dime and two nickels as well as a couple of government issue paper clips and a rusty coat hanger (a walk in abortion clinic in the park7) plus a folded up one dollar bill (don't ask, I only report what I hear,) but interestingly enough no quarters, which may be significant in the same way as the dog that didn't bark, all of it just enough to pay for a Kripy Kreme for one dog handling police officer. The search continues...
