"May 22, 2001 Chandra Levy's remains were found on a wooded hillside in Rock Creek Park by a man walking his dog..."

"The body was identified from dental records. Investigation at the scene produced Chandra's ring bearing the initials "CL". The body was decomposed and not intact. Police found knotted stretch leggings and surmised that Chandra may have been retrained with the knotted clothing. The skull they found was "not pristine and the bones were scattered. [Emphasis mine.]
The Chandra Levy Chronology (Rev. #9)

They found a ring bearing CL initials. Questions, since the body was not intact the skull was identified by dental records and not necessarily the rest of the skeletal remains. Though claiming to find a properly initialized ring leads one to believe that the skeletal remains are Chandra's, it could have also been an intentional planting of evidence by the criminal. Which would be good diversion if the the skeletal remains are from a different person. If the skull was detached that's cause to do DNA tests to ensure a bone match or planting false evidence.

Cops said several items were missing from the site in Rock Creek Park where Levy's bones were found: a ring, her house keys and a gold bracelet her family says was a gift from Condit.

Sgt. Joe Gentile said the disappearance of the items does not automatically point to robbery: Animals and birds sometimes make off with shiny objects.
