Bono Versus Nugent
Rush Limbaugh, various new sources | May 29, 2002 | Self

Posted on 05/29/2002 2:21:48 PM PDT by Angelique

In listening to Rush today, the discussion of Bono's enterprise to pressure the USA to give more financial aid to Africa was a topic. During the discussion, Ted Nugent called in to state that he spends six months in Africa teaching the citizenry about hunting. If you are not aware, Nugent is an accomplished bowhunter.

Who is providing the most assistance to the African people? I watched a special on the tele where the medical care was so atrocious that the African people die from something so curative here. Question to you: Why with all this aid do conditions remain the same? Why does this Continent remain so primeval? Who is helping the most to make a difference? Nugent or Bono?

We have spent 7 trillion dollars trying to raise the standard of living for the third world. We need to cut that out.

Yup. Nothing will improve in these countries until the engine of capitalism is harnessed.

I don't cite Rand often, but there is a reason that societies remain primative: philosophy. If the philosophy of a culture never broaches figurin' out the nature of reality, progress will effectively be impossible.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you can sell him a boat, a trailer, an outboard motor, a depth finder, a GPS unit, a trolling motor, a pickup truck, a wide selection of rods and reels, top-water lures, crankbaits, spinners...

Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for a night.

Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

Let BONO fix northern Ireland first before he takes on the world. Rockers are just like movie stars. Once they amass fame they think people care what they have to say but most are lacking without a well written script and a great director. I'm not a doctor I just play one on TV. About the only one I can even trust to testify before congress is Michael J Fox.

Thanks for the ping, Angelique.

We have not learned the lesson: "Teach a man to fish, and he will feed himself for the rest of his life."

In terms of this discussion, we are exporting the wrong product: money!

We should be exporting the U.S. Constitution. If every country in the world would adopt and live by the [original] U.S. Constitution, then every country in the world could become as rich and powerful as we are.

IOW, instead of feeding these fools, we should be teaching them about FReedom and the U.S. Constitution, the second-most remarkable document ever written (after the Bible).

"The Divine Right of Kings" is what is holding every country (including America, which has been sashaying back towards that awful "Rule of Man" theory since 1787) in the world back. We are surrounded by tin pot despots and tyrannical Kings who can't stand it that their "Vision" of the world (Divine Right of Kings) has been thoroughly trashed by we upstart, smart-ass Americans.

When we understand and practice (walk the walk!) the kind of FReedom the Founding Fathers envisioned, and are able to really sell it to other countries, the world will become a better place. Til then -- well, read the papers!

The countries where the killing and starvation is going on all are ruled by Kings, or dictators (same thing). Why do people want to be a King? Thass where the money is! If you kill enough people in your country, you might become king. When you become king, you become rich, and rich is what most people want to be.

[We called it "King of the Hill" when I was a kid, but we didn't kill the other kids to get there. Adult play is a little rougher -- politics in the 21st Century is a blood sport, in more ways than one.]

All foreign aid does is aid and abet tin horn dictators and despotic kings to remain in power and get richer. Our money has not bought us any FRiends in the world, and foreign aid ought to be stopped immediately.

But I am not going to hold my breath. Even our own State Department poobahs don't like or abide by the U.S. Constitution.

A little late to the party, but here's my 2 cents worth.

Bono is an idiot, socialist, guilty white man, who hasn't a clue about what it would take to actually help people in third world countries. Pouring money down a rathole, would be of more benifit, than giving it or any aid to African nations; most of which are run by Communist tyrants or just thugs .

African countries and their repective problems , are as diverse as their poverty is a commonality. Zimbabwe and South Africa used to be the breadbasket of Africa and the MOST Western, well run, " Flower of Africa ", respectively. Zimbabwe is now a cesspool of corruption , man made starvation, and genocide. Money and food won't reach those who need it and won't help that country at all. South Africa is still hanging in there ( no starvation, but rampant crime, egregious [ far worse than under Apartheid ! ] racial problems, and moronic health care positions ) , and doesn't need money poured into it.

Why is medical service so bad throughout Africa ? One word : RACISM ! Thabo Mbeki (a damned COMMIE, who unfortunately sees himself as some great African leader for the entire continent ) , the presodent of South Africa, has decreed that " white " medicine can't / won't cure HIV/AIDS, nor anything else. Soooooooo , many blacks have reverted to the use of witch doctors and old woves tales. Many infected men, now rape babies , as young as 8 months old, and tiny children, in the hope of curing their HIV/AIDS. The Western pharecutical companies have offered to send FOR FREE, drugs for HIV/AIDS, and been told to shove it.

It was a South African, who invented and then improved heart surgery, which has saved many , all over the world. South Africa , unlike many other African nations, used to have one of the world's BEST medical services. Many other African countries have never really had good medical care.

Ted Nugent is teaching Africans, who know how to hunt, how to hunt ? It's betterthan sending money; however, most African countries are having terrible problems with poachers. Ted is a good guy, but this is sort of like carrying coals to Newcastle. LOL

>I know that because people devote much effort keeping track of the animals, and publishing their results in peer-reviewed journals. It's the experience and knowledge...

I've said it before in this thread, and I'll say it again: The Force can have a strong effect on the weak minded.

People who believe in global warming as an artifact of human intervention are also skilled people and they also publish the results of their data collection and modeling in peer-reviewed journals. That doesn't mean the end result is anything like the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

An agenda can shape anything. Perhaps there is trouble with the animal populations in Africa. Perhaps there isn't. Trusting data just because it comes from people who "devote much effort keeping track of the animals" is like like trusting data that appears in peer reviewed sociology journals from people who devote much effort to keeping track of the welfare state... (As a famous scientist once observed on the other side, "A class enemy is still a class enemy even if he's a scientist.")

That is the Liberal solution to any problem. Throw money at it! If that doesn't solve the problem- use it as a campaign issue in the next election.

In the Western world it would be a little strange, but in Africa where the people have NO power it is not so strange and has been going on for years. When you are starving it is hard to fight back, andthey are virtually starving and dying of AIDS by the thousands.

Well, I've heard him go on and on about how american beef is poison and no one should ever eat it. As an Iowa resident, that sounds like a nut job to me. He probably buys bottled water too and claims the government is poisoning our tap water.

You're welcome to doubt any result you like, but I don't think that the global warming hysteria is comparable to the concern about African animal populations. First, there is widespread debate about the cause of global warming. There is no consensus. Second, the global warming debate centers on the interpretation of the findings, rather than the findings themselves. That the Earth has been experiencing a warming trend seems pretty solid; at any rate, both sides of the debate use and trust the same data.

In the case of African animal populations, the bad news is in the data rather than the interpretation. The populations are objective things, and in order to say that they're being systematically misrepresented, you have to charge pretty much everyone involved with intentional fraud. You can go there if you like, but I see no grounds for following you.

Consumption of Bush Meat Wiping Out African Wildlife

A report released today by TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring arm of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and The World Conservation Union (IUCN), urged that integrated action be taken to halt unsustainable use of bush meat, including promoting initiatives to transfer wildlife ownership to land holders and securing land tenure. ...

TRAFFIC predicts that demand for bush meat will continue to rise because human populations in the region are increasing, and standards of living are generally falling.

The World Wildlife Fund? You might as well trust the numbers that Greenpeace puts out.

I'll go there, even if it's alone. To my eyes, it seems that all the Club of Rome-types, sustainable development-types, human population growth is bad-types do systematically misrepresent data and are "involved with intentional fraud."

But that's me.

I am so glad that you replied, Truthfully. I wish I knew more about Africa to include watching its borders within forever changing. From this thread, it is clear that Bono is nothing but a showpiece, I did share your apprehensions about Nugent, but at least the purpose is more sincere.

I was a History major, at first, and I find it curious that we never study an entire continent. Why does not the USA use Africa as an example of a failed communist experiment? Or perhaps, the failure of a people to have any spirit. That is certainly not our heritage.

I don't know about their numbers. But I've seen articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Science and Nature; them I trust in the absence of evidence to the contrary.

The idea to "transfer wildlife ownership to land holders" is actually a very capitalistic one. It's an idea that would almost certainly work. It's shocking that a liberal group like that would say such a thing; that alone should tip you off that the problem is a real one.
