The people who run the political machine known as the Gun Control Movement, made up of such organizations as the Brady Campaign to Prevent Handgun Violence, the Violence Policy Center, and the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, to name a few, are reasonable people. They see the world through their reasonable eyes. They dress well, they are the epitome of Corporate America. They are head and shoulders above the rest of the population and they know it. They have an idea, an ideal, if you will. They are idealists.
Gun Control has its own reality, made up from some strong-willed people who desire to shape, to mold, and if you will, control the future. Their stated goal is to level the playing field by artificially introducing limitations on human nature. Much like protective tariffs and free trade agreements, Gun Control seeks to manipulate a variable. The variable they seek to manipulate is firearms, eliminating them altogether from American society. A consequence of this manipulation is an effect on other variables, such as the behavior of human beings, crime, and public perception.
Or is it the other way around? In their goal to manipulate, or control, firearms, they must first manipulate public opinion, which they have, effectively putting the mainstream media in their camp so to speak. The people in high places who decide what is newsworthy and what is not, are in agreement with the Gun Control people. This is why only middle-class school shootings are national news, and the nightly murders in the projects where those who have guns illegally are killing the unarmed ones, where Gun Control is already working, are not.
So it is established that we the public will get only the news that those who know better than us (so they say) want us to have. This is blatant manipulation of public perception.
But the real reason why Gun Control will win is because the public doesnt care. They dont care enough to find out whats being done. Many members of the non-shooting public arent even aware that you cannot buy high-capacity magazines anymore, or why. They find out and sure, at the moment they are outraged, and they resolve to do lots of good political things. But somehow these never come to be and they go back to being complacent, beaten down by a you cant fight the system attitude.
Gun Control will win because people want to be told what to do. They dont want the responsibility, and they dont want the potential to be wrong, because thats hard on their self-esteem. So instead they do the just doing what Im told or Doing what Im supposed to or Doing the Right Thing, instead of thinking about the very actions they are being manipulated into.
Gun Control will win, because people have lost the ability to think for themselves. Those in the Violence Policy Centers use the least-capable of the public as examples, followed up by a rhetorical question such as would you LET this person own a gun?
Gun Control people are reasonable people asking reasonable questions, and their reasonable actions do not raise any alarm bells except with those whom they label as survivalist crazies waiting for the world to blow up. But behind all this reasonableness is a very real, very emotional need for control.
Gun Control people are control freaks. Inside their 20 pages of reasonableness they boil it down to Would you have guns in the hands of people you cannot control?
Thats it in a nutshell. Gun Control people want to be in power. They recognize the firearm as the ultimate personal power. They and they alone feel qualified in defining and deciding who should be armed and who should not. The fact that most of them come from parts of the country where bad things Just Dont Happen should be an indicator of their mindset.
Theirs is a simple mindset: Remove the Tool of the Problem, thus you Remove The Problem. This thinking is a fallacy, but it is a fallacy that requires thought and reason to see through. Thought and reason that most of the general public will not invest because honestly they do not care.
Those of us who care about our constitutional rights, who have the U.S. Constitution framed up on our wall along with a bright, well-kept U.S flag are in the minority.
War kills good people. Because only good people will sacrifice themselves for their principles, such as freedom. The weasels will dodge and conveniently be unavailable when it comes time for them to serve. So the good people die and all we have left are the weasels, and they breed.
So, with enough wars, soon we have a nation full of weasels, eating at us from the inside. Gun Control people are those weasels, and theyre winning. Because theyre reasonable, and those of us who want to think for ourselves, are not. Because those of us who are passionate, patriotic, and driven to uphold the ideals of Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, Hamilton, Burr, Madison, Adams, and others who helped shape our unique government, are not considered reasonable. Of course, none of the men previously mentioned were considered reasonable either. The Kings men were reasonable. They did as they were told. They tried to maintain the status quo because the status quo benefitted them. Just as the status quo benefits the Gun Control people.
So Gun Control will win. Not because they are right, but because they appear reasonable. Their scare tactics are so effective, their rhetoric so insidious, that anyone who dares oppose either one appears to be unbalanced or unreasonable.
Human beings are by nature neither controllable nor reasonable. Those in Gun Control know this, but they do not see controlling people as the goal. They see the path of human manipulation as not a pathway to a door, but an idealistic journey leading ever towards the horizon. Like lemmings, they continue on toward the end, some of them fully realizing that there IS an end and it is suicide. But by the time our society reaches that end, those in Gun Control now will have already made their money off of the fear of the public, the activists will have been able to retire, and the fate of the nation will no longer be a care of theirs, because their unique status will afford them the protection they feel they need from the ignorant masses.
Gun Control people are good salesmen and debaters. But it does not make what they stand for right, safe, patriotic, or any good for our society.
But they will win.
Because society will let them.
And then we will all be murdered.
By We I mean all the good people left. Then the nation will be made up of only two kinds of people: weasels and slaves.
Which kind will you be?
Except when that ANYTHING not only does not save the child it pretends to save, it kills more of them.
Gun control does just that.
Is anyone paying attention?
But I guess that's my point.
Which kind will you be?
For rhetorical completeness, shouldn't you have a third option - "dead"?
Your post is good and the words are true, but the other side of why the gim control nazi's get away with it is because those who belive in the 2nd amendment don't take enough action. So any ideas?
That is the purpose of the NEA.

Bull. There is no "gun control movement. Just a tiny lobby lacking any grassroots.
That was evident when the very-antigun Washington ComPost attributed the defeat of HCI etc. in the last House gun vote to the fact that we - but not the antigun lobby - are the only side that actually has a "grassroots" everywhere in the U.S. to pester congresscritters before key votes. That was evident when Bill Klinton publicly admitted the gun issue defeated Algore - costing him 5-10 states. That is evident when the Violence Policy Center doesn't even claim to have members.
And it is evident from the failure of the first "Million" Mom March - on a Sunday - to get more than 10,000 to show in the huge Washington metro area, most all admittedly coming from just one state (Pennsylvania), despite being within a two-hour drive of many big metro areas. And it was even more evident in the financial collapse of MMM within a year - as there just weren't enough participants to fund it NRA-style out of dues.
Even the rich commies who funded the antigun lobby in its big days of the late 1990s have given up on it. MMM - funded nearly entirely by George Soros - did so poorly he wouldn't keep funding it, and MMM had to downsize all but one of its 35 staffers. A petition drive to repeal shall-issue CCW funding in Michigan lost all funding from commie foundations - when the commie foundations openly said that they saw no hope of winning the referendum.
Scandals of antigun activists - with truth of "Million" Mom March, including exclusive photos!
DEAD!!!!! Ohmegod, did they miss that one? Not really, though. The unspoken ultimate consequence of gun control is inherent. 'Give 'em up or die.'
Control means control by force. Dat ain't nice. Nobody forced me to buy a gun. Why should I be forced to give it up? Dat ain't logical.
The 'even playing field' they mention is really a mud slide, and you know who they want at the bottom.
If you need someone's permission to breathe air, then you need someone's permission to continue to breathe air. Of course, the reverse is true also. If you don't need anyone's permission to live, then you don't need anyone's permission to continue to live. Gun-grabbers are the enemies of the human race.
It's like, "Okay, everyone. Turn in your spears. You won't need 'em because we'll protect ya's.....and Oh! Don't go into the jungle anymore. It's a jungle out there, ya know. If the tiger comes to your door, just remember, tigers have to eat too! -- SPCTRM (Society for the Preservation of Crooks, Thieves, Rapists, and Murderers.).
(Mebbe I should'a included socialists and liberals.)
Actually they're mediocre salesmen and lousy, inept debaters. Resorting to high-pitched appeals to sheer emotionalism, furnishing nothing more than bromides and invectives, and continually misstating known statistics while dismissing- or ignoring- all factual evidence to the contrary, they wind up losing almost every time they debate a well versed pro-2A supporter, reduced to their ultimate fallback position: the utterly predictable cries of "if just one life can be saved" and "better safe than sorry."
Pfft!!
"The variable they seek to manipulate is firearms, eliminating them altogether from American society."
This too is wrong. They don't want to eliminate guns completely, they want the police and military to have guns. The don't want individual citizens to have guns. They also see nothing wrong in hiring armed guards to protect themselves, their offices and their factories. We can't be allowed to protect ourselves though.
When the people are all disarmed, then all of a sudden they will only want the military to have guns.
That said, it's important to realize and celebrate our victories.
Thirty-three States now have "shall issue" CCW permits, and nine states are "may issue", only eight States do not allow their citizens to carry a concealed weapon at all. This is a huge (almost) nationwide victory.
The anti-civil rights gun banners try to blow smoke and say that more gun control is very popular, but the hard facts are that the Democratic machine has veered suddenly, and now decided they really like guns. There is no room for BS here; they have the very best pollsters and analysts available, if they now suddenly like guns, there are hard political facts behind this new position.
Just this week I read that NY Senator, Chuck Schumer, a rabid gun banner, now says he has always believed the Second Amendment acknowledges an individuals right to keep and bear arms.
The standard model among legal scholars is that the Second Amendment acknowledges individual rights.
We are winning in the courts too. With rare exception, the cities lawsuits against gun makers are being thrown out of court or defeated, or like Boston, they recently just gave up their lawsuit. Those that arent are being fought mightily. The Emerson decision is the most and best-researched and pro-gun judicial opinion yet. I dont think the Rehnquist Supreme Court will damage this decision, and it may well strengthen the Emerson interpretation of Second Amendment.
Just last week John Ashcroft filed with the United States Supreme Court that the official position of the United States is that the Second Amendment acknowledges individual personal rights.
We must keep up the good fight, the gun grabbers will do everything in their power to take away our rights and freedoms.
The NRA has a Drive to five million members program going. If you are not a member of the NRA, join. If you are a member, sign up your spouse or kids, or your neighbor.
Despite their millions claims, the anti-gun groups have very few real members. When the NRA steps up and tells politicians that they are the oldest and largest civil rights organization in the country (world?) with five million dues paying members, and these five million members will pay close attention to their recommendations at the next election, it gets the politicians attention.
Have fun, shoot straight and safe.
Before you all get upset, I am a gun nut. But I also have liberal friends, from backgrounds not familiar with guns. The key is "not familiar". Most people who support gun control do so because guns are unfamiliar and scary. They fear guns. If fear is their first response then gun control is the natural reaction. They are really very easy to bring around IF you take the time to explain your points calmly and with respect for their initial discomfort. Very few of the gun-control voting populace have a real set opinion on it that is any further developed than their first knee-jerk reaction.
We hurt our cause by calling them names like ignorant, sheeple, control freaks, gun grabbers. And much as we like it "from my cold, dead hands" really freaks them out.
Here is how to win... I have done it more times than I can count, because I happen to have made many liberal friends, and have taken the time to reason with them. I am proud to say I have won many votes to our side.
1. Stop calling them names.
2. Reason with them using rational language about self-defense... (especially with women)
3. Take them shooting. Stress safety, and make it fun... bring lots of bullets and let them shoot all afternoon. Believe me I have never had one want to leave before the bullets were gone.
We have to stop laughing and pointing at the silly liberals, bite our tongues and reason with them. When they are talking about saving kids, and we sound like crazed militia, they are the ones who win the hearts of the middle, yes.
We need to do some outreach folks. And we need to look more reasonable than the Brady's... Come on, it shouldn't be that hard.
You and I may love already love our guns, but they don't, and never will if we don't make it more attractive. If we don't win more hearts and minds, we will lose them.
We definately can't say stuff like this when any of them are listening, at least until they have been converted.
Plus we have the internet, the mass media that the 'intellectual elites' can't control. And it's mostly conservative / libertarian in nature. We have sites like this and many others to rally under the radar.
I'm not anywhere near giving up or feeling hopeless. I'm using my abilities to hopefully help change the minds of hoplophobes about the second amendment - pushing back the frontiers of ignorance and detroying the lies about guns and the RKBA.
This is how I'm fighting:
This is my new web site. Take a look at the anti's core issues that are debunked in just a minute or two. Know someone on the fence about guns? Send them to a movie to combat the lies. More movies taking on other subjects are on the way. Do whatever you can in your own way to furthe the fight.
Just focus on your goal, put your head down, and keep moving forward.

2nd Amendment Flash Movies
You are right, Revel. At some point concerns over "democracy" will be moot, as the evil one's time will have come round at last. At that point, a powerful delusion will come upon those that "love not the truth". Never mind fighting off that onslaught with firearms; the enslavement of heart and mind will be a judgement for not believing on Jesus Christ.
