OK- I first want to get out of the way that normally I would post this to General Interest, but I am having technical difficulties about being logged on over there. So, sorry about that.
I like to read some of the questions over on Straight Dope.com. Well today, they had an archived question about Nostradamus on the site, and I noticed it was from 1984. Anyway, I was reading it and didn't think too much of it. Usual debunking of his predictions and all that, until I came to this comment from the answer guy, Cecil...
Supposed predictions by Nostradamus of future wars and disasters are equally implausible. I didn't see the movie you allude to, but other scenarios I've come across talk about an alliance between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. followed by a joint Arab-Chinese invasion of Europe.
That guy had no idea how "plausible" that idea is today. I'm not saying that the Arabs and Chinese are going to invade Europe, but there seems to be a lot of talk that China is financing a lot of the Arabs' weaponry. And who would've dreamt in 1984 that Russia would be considered an "ally" of ours against an army of Arabs. I almost wonder if he pulled that question out of the archive on purpose because of that statement. See the whole column here
Between the bushes of the Lone Star,
A hollow man arose from a park of trailers.
A hideous witch at his side,
The head of a rotund woman on his lap.
That fits under the tag "Oxymoron", I believe.
The Bible says the same thing.
The last war- Russia ( the Assyrian) will come down from the north to protect Israel, and Arab nations and China will come up. Russia will be drivin back to Siberia.
The river Euphraties will dry up to allow the kings of the East (China) to pass through (Saudies control the water ways, and can shut off water now).
The Anti-Christ, the one who draws up a contract for Israel (that will get Israel to give up land for peace) will promise to protect Israel militarily if it signs the 7 yr. peace contract (Oslo Accords?).
When an attack comes, the Anti-Christ will do nothing. He lied to Israel. It was a set-up.
It's all in the Bible already. It told us this would happen over 2000 years ago. The Bible is a book that teaches and is also Prophetic, but many have chosen to ignore it.
I'm not sure where you get Dec. 22, but the Bible countdown started not when Israel became a nation alone - but when it inhabited Jerusalem as a nation. It comes to 2012 as well.
And the demon shall bear a nine bladed sword. Nine bladed! Not two, or five, or seven but NINE! Which he shall wield on all wretched sinners, sinners just like you, sir there. And the horns shall be on the head;
What I was talking about really had very little to do with Nostradamus and more to do about how things that seemed unbelievable 18 years ago are kinda happening today.
But I figure I will continue to be rediculed for believing Nostradamus and crap like that.
Errrr, don't tell the Turks that. They're still buiding their 22 dam complex on the Tigris and Euphrates. Soon they'll control the water to the entire mid-east, a fact not lost on the Syrians, Saudis etc.
That's a good point- but actually the whole of the 20th century was pretty crazy- I can't remember who it was, but somebody made the point (paraphrasing) that if you told someone in 1900 that by 1925 10 million soldiers would have been butchered, and a communist regime would have supplanted the Czars, you would have been called crazy.
If, in 1925 you told someone that by 1950 the americans and british would have been allied against the germans *with* the russians, you would have been thought mad.
Can't remember the details, but it was more or less along the lines of what you're suggesting.
Isn't that the day they announced on the X Files for when the Aliens were to invade Earth?
