Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney seemed unmoved by President Bush's insistence Friday that he did not ignore warning signs about the Sept. 11 attacks.
McKinney, who spoke as she tried to escape reporters in DeKalb County, said Congress should launch not one, but at least two investigations.
McKinney, who was widely criticized after insisting in March that Bush ignored warnings of an impending attack, said Friday that all she ever wanted was an investigation.
11Alive's Jon Shirek asked McKinney about critics who called her reprehensible for suggesting that President Bush might have allowed the attacks so his friends in the defense industries could profit from a war.
"Well, you know, I never said that, and it's very important that we understand, I called for an investigation," she responded.
On March 25, McKinney told listeners of KPFA-FM in Berkeley, Calif., that former President Bush might be making money from the defense industry during this war.
McKinney said, "Former President Bush sits on the board of the Carlyle Group. The Los Angeles Times reports that on a single day last month, Carlyle earned $237 billion selling shares...the army's fifth largest contractor."
McKinney asked Friday why Congress should not investigate the former president, his son, and the defense industries.
"And that's an investigation also that could take place along the lines of the Enron investigation," she said.
Denise Majette, a retired state judge seeking to unseat McKinney in Georgia's 4th District, said McKinney succeeds only at making inflammatory statements she can't back up to get attention and votes.
"Trying to divert attention from the real issues. The fact that she's been a totally ineffective legislator in the ten years that she's been in Congress," said Majette.
McKinney says only that she is gratified that so many others, including Majette, have joined her in calling for an investigation of what the president knew before the attacks.
And many of the others were ignorant (not stupid, just uninformed) of Cindy McNinney's voting record, campaign contributors, and outrageous fact-void assertions. Add Daddy McNinney and his illegal activitees. Now put those three together = why she gets elected.
Well, I want at least 2 investigations into McKinney and her tactics.
Amen!
It seems suspicious that she would jump on this track, and be the first to do so. I think she's making a pre-emptive attack, just as Maxi-pad Waters did with the alleged cocaine conspiracy in LA.
It's called muddying the water.
But in the meantime, allow me to suggest a third investigation - one of Cynthia McKinney's mental competence to sit in Congress!
I know who Cynthia White is: She's a Denton County (Texas) Commissioner, and Dick Armey's son Scott's nemesis on the Denton Commissioner's Court (county commission)!
She's unamused by his crooked politics and backroom deals with developers.
Was this some sort of freudian slip on Dick Armey's part?
I can't see how "people who elected her" and "think" can be used in the same sentence!
So Dick has a problem with names he's still correct in his assessment of the whole mess.
My point yesterday was that the Emporer-Clothes.com is promoting this stuff and I think the Democrats have downloaded everything the site has and will be dribbling these ideas into the media as time goes by!
Unless it's for your own satisfaction, it probably won't do any good. I lived in MA for about 20 years. Tip O'Neil,
Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Mike Dukakis. Maybe Tsongas too, but I don't recall. They all stayed
or managed to get in to office, regardless of my votes.
Don't move just to vote against somebody.
