There appeared a thread yesterday:
It said that Pim Fortuyn was 'a powerful advocate or paedophilia'. The article in the Scotsman is based on an 1999 column of Pim Fortuyn.
The article there leaves out the things that make one understand what he is saying.
1. If it was true this was such a vile column, Elsevier would have never allowed it to be printed
2. If it was true this was such a vile column, the media an left parties would have brought it to the attention of people months ago. And by doing so stopping Fortuyn cold in his tracks before he could break down the left
3. If it was true this was such a vile column, and he is a sexual pervert, then way did nobody claimed the 2250 dollar reward a leftist organization awarded the first man that could bring out information about Fortuyn's sexual past that would descredit him. Not ONE single person managed to come up with anything.
I a furious, not about the article, but they way it was presented and pinged around.
This is exactly what led to the death of Pim Fortuyn in the first place, the demonization of the media and politicians, who lied and published selected half-true things, leaving out the rest.
He was murdered by a man who thought that shooting so was a good thing to do.
Most of the time the replies are a mixture of "good riddence", "don't let the door....." and an occasional "we'll miss you".
Instead you are being praised. There is no shame in coming back.
Regards
I stopped lurking AND posting for a week some months ago because I felt the congealed rancid malice on certain threads was becoming harmful to my spirit.
After a week or so, I regained my affable composure.
Sometimes Achilles just has to retire to his tent. ;^)
Please know that this thread shows you are respected by many here, Knighthawk.
Say you will stay. No harm done.
Oh stop it. Just stand where you are and don't go anywhere! My chief objection is not the above opinion of the poster, but that someone felt they needed to take it upon themself to tell me how I should think - without me asking them. I tried to respond to the post but I couldn't. I guess the thread was closed to further postings.
I thank you for your time here in FR.
Even though we have never met in person, I have come to regard you as a sort of friend here. Someone who cares deeply for his country and his beliefs.
I have also been tempted to leave after argueing with some of the Dinosaurs here, all to no avail.
On the whole however, I have decided that I would be more effective staying and fighting than leaving.
In my Army unit we had an Un-offical Motto...
Non Illigitmus Carborundum (sic).
Loosly translated from Latin it means "Dont let the bastards get you down"
It is the best advise I can give you for the morons.....
Cheers,
knews hound
For what it's worth, I chose not to follow the Fortuyn case closely, due to limitations on my time. I quit following the Le Penn bashing threads as well. I obviously should have paid more attention to both, at least on FR.
For that I apologize.
Sorry to see you go, man.
It's the QUALITY of the posts, not the length of time a particular screen name has been in use that counts.
Knighthawk, please reconsider. Maybe I should feel guilty because I may have been the first on FreeRepublic to link to the Scotsman article (a link which I found on National Review Online, hardly a leftist publication and one that has consistently praised Fortuyn's politics). If it makes you feel better, give me a good cussing.
Remember that I went back and amended my first post with a big "IF PROVEN". Nevertheless, I feel very strongly that we do our comrades in arms (or spirit) no favors if we look the other way when (alleged) bad news emerges about them. I am not saying that you did so, of course.
Hoping to read you again soon.
