... it means about half of the farmer vote in 11/2002 will go Republican and that's important for holding the House.

The reason to vote Republican is?

Left and far left only matter by who does it, not what they do.

If I can make money not growing anything I think I will grow even less next year to make even more money.

heh, that's funny. on a side note, I read in the post the following paragraph on the front page today....

'CHICAGO, May 13 -- President Bush, setting aside his rhetorical devotion to free markets, signed a farm bill today that will shower billions of dollars in new subsidies on bread-basket states that will help determine control of Congress in November's elections.'

Tell me that this guy is an un-biased reported. Whad a tool...

News : People & Places In pain, but in attendance

By JANE NORMAN

Register Washington Bureau

05/14/2002

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Washington, D.C. - Sen. Tom Harkin had a large bandage across his lower lip Monday at the signing ceremony for the farm bill, the result of outpatient surgery for a precancerous skin condition.

Harkin said he had actinic cheilitis on his lower lip, which is caused by overexposure to sunlight and may lead to squamous-cell skin cancer if untreated, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

"It's from being out in the sun too darn much when I was a kid," the Iowa Democrat said.

Harkin said his surgery was performed Friday by a dermatologist in private practice in Washington, D.C.

"I spent all weekend on my back with an ice pack, taking Motrin," he said, referring to an over-the-counter painkiller. He said he would resume a light schedule today.

Harkin, chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, had postponed the surgery while a conference committee was working toward a final version of the farm legislation. He then scheduled the procedure for Friday morning, thinking he would have the weekend and Monday to recover.

Then the White House on Friday afternoon scheduled the signing ceremony for 7:45 a.m. EDT Monday, and Harkin didn't want to miss it, even with the painful wound on his face.

Harkin said he had the same surgery two years ago, following a doctor's recommendation, but not enough tissue was removed. "They didn't get it all," he said. "It was bothering me."

He said that after the bill was signed, President Bush asked him, "What happened to you?"

Harkin said he joked to the president that it was the result of the tough fight getting the farm bill through the Senate.

"They don't pull any punches in the Senate," Harkin said.

Harkin only spends time in Iowa during election years. The rest of his time he spends at his home in the Bahamas. I understand that Bahama sun is a really intense.

Besides, Why not spend some money AT HOME, for a change? What's wrong with helping our own people?

Well you can do your part. Stay home, don't vote and then hope you are proven right.

Evidently 9/11 wasn't enough of a demonrat legacy, you want more of the same.

Iowa has this absolutley outstanding young conservative, Bill Salier, running against RINO Greg Ganske in the R primary.

If the RNSC would keep their noses (and money) out of this race, Bill may have a good chance of taking out Ganske, and then Harkin.

There are many in Iowa who think Salier has a far better chance of defeating Harkin than Ganske.

Ganske has very high negatives.

If a miracle happens June 4 and Salier wins this primary, Tom Harkin had better run for the hills because Salier is coming after him.

But the US just slapped 39% duty on Canadian lumber for perceived subsidies, how can it be alright for them to increase farm subsidies by 70%.

I sent Salier some money. He's a conservative, a farmer, and a Marine. That's 3 good reasons to support him.

He also appears to take his oath to the Constitution seriously.

In that first pic, Dubya looks downright GIDDY with pen in hand... "Here comes your money, baby!"

And why not shove Harkin into the background, where his Hannibal Lecter look might be less noticable?

Is Harkin THAT proud of the Farm Bill that he needs to be front and center, even with that bandage on his mouth?

Something about all those guys with suits and dumb smiles on their faces, gathered around a $ 190 billion document, is just plain spooky.

How much you want to bet, that no matter how big the farm bill is, Iowa, North Dakota, Montana, etc. will not vote Republican in the Senate.

Not much of a bet, considering the Dems are leading the polls in IA and MT, and ND doesn't have a Senate election this year.

Why wouldn't Harkin be leading Ganske? Ganske has completely alienated his base.

We can rid the US of both these liberals if Bill Salier wins the primary for senate.
