Giving money away is a two party practice. What's a few billion among friends.

Sure, the farm bill is a budget buster but, that's what we get when the Democrats control the Senate. Also, it means about half of the farmer vote in 11/2002 will go Republican and that's important for holding the House. Rove is a realist and sometimes you have to suck lemons to be in politics.

Also, it means about half of the farmer vote in 11/2002 will go Republican.. You are exactly wrong! How much you want to bet, that no matter how big the farm bill is, Iowa, North Dakota, Montana, etc. will not vote Republican in the Senate. You are forgetting that that the Democrats from these states will actually claim victory for the farm bill, and they will be correct. Karl Rove is wrong about this bill winning over farmers, just like he is wrong about the steel tariffs effecting see-saw states.

So "conservative" Bush is putting the Welfare Farmers back on the taxpayer tit bigtime, after all.
"What do y'all grow, anyway?"
"Ah grow moss on my ass, a'waitin' fer them gov'mint checks I so deserve.
Ahm a Family Welfare Farmer . . . a institooshun. Gimme mah money."
There's a nice fiscally-conservative move by a party devoted to smaller government.
I'll continue to vote for and support Libertarians - the reason is more obvious day by day. I'm sick of Big Government Parasite politicians, whatever their label.

Sure, the farm bill is a budget buster but, that's what we get when the Democrats control the Senate. Especially when the President is far too much of a Wimp to even threaten a veto. The parasites are salivating, now that Republicans are in charge.

Harkin is an EMBARRASMENT to Iowans. It is SO disappointing how this guy gets re-elected time after time. It nearly makes me ashamed to call myself and "Iowa boy".
