Is This The Real Noah's Ark, Found At Last? The Mystery Of The "Ararat Anomaly"

It may be exactly what millions of people believe that it is. If so, it is the greatest archaeological find in centuries.

Its official name is "The Ararat Anomaly".

An independent correlation of maps of the region with information released in 1995 by the United States Defense Intelligence Agency places the Ararat Anomaly at "approximately 39 42' 10" N 044 16' 30" E at an elevation of approximately 14-15,000 feet and approximately 2.2 KM horizontal distance west of the summit".

It is located by the Ahora Gorge, near the summit of Mt. Ararat, in Turkey. Turkey, in turn, is bordered by the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.

The October 2001 American Journal of Archaeology attested to massive flooding in the region 7,500 years ago, noting that the Black Sea was "abruptly filled by waters from the Mediterranean when the Bosporus was cut by rising world sea levels."

Mt. Ararat itself is of volcanic origin, glaciated and covered with ice and loose rocks. Expeditions, while not impossible, are dangerous due to frequent avalanches. Indeed, an avalanche in 1840 destroyed a 500-year-old monastery, which had in turn preserved many of the artifacts that had been discovered in the area.

The weather is also treacherous. Mt. Ararat is a magnet for thunderstorms. The resulting inclement weather often impedes progress towards the summit. On the other hand, locals say that the storms result in beautiful rainbows.

Kurdish rebels tend to shoot at foreigners seeking to explore Mt. Ararat, a not-unimportant fact which has dissuaded many from pursuing the facts about whatever it is up there.

On June 17, 1949, a United States Air Force plane flew a then-classified aerial photographic mission over Mt. Ararat. The pilot, to his surprise, recorded two images of the Ararat Anomaly — a linear, oddly symmetrical shape approximately 600 feet in length, with roughly 90 feet of that length protruding clearly from out of the snow and ice.

Whatever it was appeared to be damaged.

The pilot also recorded three pictures of a second anomaly, smaller, and similar in shape, nearby. It was speculated that something had been split in half, or more exactly into a 2/3 part and a 1/3 part by one or more of Mt. Ararat´s frequent avalanches. The smaller part may have, according to more recent United States Government satellite images of the Ararat Anomaly, slipped into the Ahora Gorge.

The Ahora Gorge is a full mile wide, and reportedly miles deep. It may hold quite a few answers.

These findings were accentuated by the pictures taken between October of 1999 and the summer of 2000 by the Ikonos 2 Satellite, which resolves images as small as one meter across.

From the 1949 pictures, per the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) analysis thereof released in 1995, there are from the front of the surviving 2/3, now known as the Ararat Anomaly, three giant, prong-like structures, akin to what might be found in an ancient marine vessel. Similar structures were similarly identified in images of the smaller anomaly, the 1/3 of the original that may be lost to the depths of the Ahora Gorge.

Nearby, on Parrot Glacier, French explorer Fernand Navarra found a five-foot long piece of carefully hand-crafted wood.

Published reports confirm that the hand-crafted piece of wood found by Navarra was submitted to the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, France, the Forestry Institute of Research and Experiments of the Ministry of Agriculture in Madrid, Spain and the Department of Anthropology and Prehistoric Studies at the University of Bordeaux in France.

The age of the hand-crafted piece of wood was determined to be in excess of 5,000 years old.

The site where it was found was only a few hundred meters from the site of the 1949 U.S. Air Force pictures.

However, Navarra was unaware of those pictures when he submitted his discovery: those pictures remained classified until 1982. Navarra independently made his discovery in the same area on July 5, 1955.

And then, finally, there is the interesting report of proto-Sumerian pictographs found on a rock from a cave near Mt. Ararat´s Ahora Gorge, as reported in the National Geographic Society's publication, Research & Exploration, Vol. 10, No. 4, 1994, p. 484.

The pictographs refer to the covenant of the bright bow and add "let man and woman go forth and procreate".

The pictographs, collectively, are known as the "Ahora Covenant Inscription".

Notwithstanding all of that... the central question, of course, is whether what has been officially recognized as "The Ararat Anomaly" is — or was — a boat.

More specifically, a very, very ancient boat which set forth thousands of years ago, through torrential rains, into the deepening water of a great deluge, alighting on dry land after forty days and forty nights...

In 1959, stereo photos where taken by a Turkish airline pilot of a boat shaped object on the mountains of Ararat for The Geodetic Institute of Turkey. Dr. Brandenburger of Ohio State University, USA, after studying the photographs concluded, "I have no doubt at all, that this object is a ship. In my entire career, I have never seen an object like this on a stereo photograph." Dr. Brandenburger was a photogrammetry expert who had discovered the missile bases in Cuba, during the Kennedy era.

 

An American team ran a day and a half expedition to the site, hardly enough time to carry out any scientific testing. They blew a hole in the side of the structure with dynamite, although some timber shaped stones were revealed, their conclusion was, "Nothing of any archaeological interest". If this object was Noah's Ark, it would be approximately 4400 years old so the wood would have petrified. So finding timber shaped stone was encouraging evidence. However, because the material had no growth rings, the team decided it could not be wood. But does this really prove true?The conditions of the world before the Biblical flood, were very different from now. The Bible says, "...for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth...But there went up a mist from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground." (Gen 2: 5, 6). Growth rings in wood are caused by seasonal variations, so in a pre flood environment, with no seasonal variations, the trees would have no growth rings. And this is exactly what the American team found! In fact, if the material did have growth rings, it could not have been Noah's Ark.After seeing an article published in LIFE magazine covering the expedition, Ron Wyatt an amateur archaeologist, visited the site in 1977. His interest was aroused and he decided the structure deserved further investigation as to whether this could be Noah's Ark.

It lay 6,300 feet above sea level, much too high to be the remains of a boat from a local flood. It is over 200 miles from the nearest sea. The dimensions were consistent with the Biblical description of Noah's Ark in Gen. 6:15, measuring 300 cubits long. The width was greater than that mentioned in the Bible as the sides of the boat had splayed, which would be expected in a boat of that age.

Ground penetrating radar proved the boat to have three decks, the top two decks had collapsed leaving the bottom deck intact which contained 144 rooms. Walls, cavities, a door near the front, ramps, and two large round 'tank shapes' near to the bow were also located. The radar scan revealed four protrusions extending from the stern that were probably stabilizers.

Ron tested the material at Galbraith Laboratories in Knoxville, Tennessee and it proved to be laminated, petrified wood. Tests for carbon showed that samples from the site contained much higher carbon content than the surrounding area. The specimen from the site proved to be 4.95% carbon, while the specimen from the surrounding area, tested at 1.88%. Thus the specimen from the site had once been living matter. Such sophisticated alloys as iron, titanium and aluminium also proved to be present. With only a superficial inspection the rib timbers and deck joists are clearly visible along the entire length of the ship.

With the use of four types of different metal detectors, thousands of metal rivets were found on the site. Iron was found at regular intervals which made up a pattern of horizontal and vertical lines 'criss-crossing' the boat, demonstrating iron at the levels of each bulkhead. Conventional science teaches that the iron age far precedes the time of the flood, but the Bible in Genesis 4:22 says, "Tubalcain, [was] an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron". Iron nodules were also found in about 5400 places, which show linear patterns consistent with the shape of the hull.

In 1991, Greg Brewer, found a petrified antler in the side of the ark. As a result of a core drilling Ron found extinct rodent hair, petrified animal droppings and red human hair.All the expeditions have so far been to Mt. Ararat, but what does the Bible actually say about the resting place of Noah's Ark? Gen 8:4, "And the ark rested on the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. The Bible does not say the ark came to rest on Mt. Ararat, but on the mountain range of Ararat. That is exactly where we find this boat shaped object, it is located about fifteen miles south of Mt. Ararat.The names of the surrounding places are interestingly associated with the Biblical account of the flood. The valley is called 'The Valley of Eight', in reference to the eight survivors of the flood, Noah and his wife, their three sons and their wives. A village in the valley translates to 'The Village of Eight', where several giant anchor stones can be found thousands of feet above sea level and hundreds of kilometers from the nearest sea. On the anchor stones there are carved Christian crosses from the crusader period, evidence that the crusaders also recognized the Christian significance of the anchor stones. There are thirteen of these anchor stones that all lie in direct line with the boat. So evidently, Noah cut them loose as the waters subsided and just before the ark came to rest.

Near to this village is another smaller village with a name that translates to 'The Crow will not Stand'. Undoubtedly, referring to when Noah released a raven from the ark. Another village is called 'Where the Oars were Reversed', again suggesting that a boat once passed over this area, where it began to slow down to its final resting place. The Turkish government has also sent their own archaeological team, who recovered four intact metal rods, each about four foot long. These are now in the possession of the Ministry of Mines and Minerals, in Turkey. They have officially dedicated the site as a national park declaring it to be the remains of Noah's Ark!

Since everybody has already seen photos of the "Old Man of the Mountain" in NH as an example of a naturally occuring phenomonon that has the appearance of being man-made, I'll skip it and go to something different:

Try doing a search on the "Giant's Causeway" a "genuine" (wink-wink) "staircase" used by "Giants" to walk from Scotland to Northern Ireland.

I'll bet no one can prove Giants DIDN'T use it!

There is MUCH in the past history of our Species which is unexplained, & HIGHLY CONTRADICTORY of the "accepted Story" of our Species "Time" on Earth!

On some other thread, the Ark was announced as being at "the 13,000 foot level." This time, it's more like 15,000 feet. Anyway, I was intrigued enough to do the math for how much additional water all over the earth it would take to float a boat to 13000 feet. It was, IIRC, a bit more than a doubling of the published figure for the hydrosphere we have now.

Not if it is buried in snow 14,000 feet up. Also, we are to believe what God said because He said it. we are not supposed to tust physical things, although we do have physicals things that testify to what He has done.

I would LOVE to see the Ark, but I am required to believe in it by faith, not by archaelogy. Still, I think it might be, mainly because Genesis is not myth, it is fact.

I think you are leaving out some of the options.

1) Displacement of ocean waters could cover the inhabited world and it could take a year for the water to drain back into the ocean, especially if the ship was over flat ground like Mesopotamia. You don't need twice as much water, you just move the water you have over the land. This could come from many sources, including well-placed meteorites or bubbling up of the compressed methane on the ocean floor.

2) The plate boundaries of the Earth contain oceans full of water, if ever they "belched" it back up, their WOULD be obout double the water in the oceans. I don't know of any mechanism that might do this, but the account does say that 'the fountains of the great deep were broken up" in addition to the 40 days of rain.

I DON'T Think it happened 4,000 years ago, or even 7,500, but I don't think a world-wide (as they knew it) flood catastrophe that almost extincted the human race can be ruled out.
