I read with enthusiasm that Dr. Howard Dean, MD, our Honourable Governor of Vermont State, is exploring the possibility of running for President of the United Socialist States of Amerkia! COnsider some of the success stories of the "Vermont Miracle" under GOvernor Deean, and how fortunate all Americans would be if we could bring these blessings to the entire Nation, by promoting Dr. Howard Dean for El Presidente of the USSA?!
FIrst, higher taxes and more bureaucratic regulation on business in Vermont helps encourage companies to relocate to other States. This causes more demand for State government job retraining, law enforcement, correction facilities and welfare services, thus stimulating the Vermont economyh. The less number of citizens who have jobs, the more government spending and thus economic activity.
Second, using the taxing authority of Vermont State government to financially coerce parents to choose public schools for their children, by monopolizing all public school taxes for public schools only, makes it more difficult for parents to either home school or choose private religious schools for their children. This helps eliminate competition for public schools, leading to greater job security for public school teachers, thus stimulating political correctness, stifling intellectual dissent and reducing thought crimes.
Third, imposing and maximizing State-wide, centralized property taxes (our famous "Act 60") on private homes across Vermont helps reduce private home ownership by the elderly, modest income people, working families and most private citizens in general. This also helps eliminate local control over public schools, which is better standardized by central authorities anyway, right? This helps to allow the dumbing down of public school students without the bothersome interference of local Public School Boards and parents. Hyper inflating property values and assessed property taxes encourages home ownership by only the very rich, while forcing all others to either relocate to other States or find subsidized rental housing units, thus reducing the inconvenient reliance on the ownership of private property.
Fourth, many complain about Vermont State government pushing programs and policies that undermine the traditional family. This is a short sighted view. Pushing sexual promiscuity, homosexuality, lewdness and risk taking to unsuspecting and vulnerable school children with such messages as "safe sex," "discover your sexual orientation," "parent-free confidential reproductive health services," "parent consent-free pregnancy termination" and "emancipating children from their parents." has great economic advantages. This leads to greater teen pregnancy, unwed single motherhood, HIV infections, homosexual experimentation, AIDS cases, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, suicide, depression, pharmacutical sales, abortions and birth control sales. This creates more demand and thus more jobs in the health care, law enforcement and welfare industries.
FIfth, Vermont State stands as a regional leader in increasing income taxes and the complexity of state income tax return forms. In spite of some unreasonable "anti-tax extremists" who push outmoded "Constitutional" and "Unalienable" "rights" platforms, the answer is not to curb the rates and complexity of income tax scales and forms. Rather, all income should be taxed at 100%, thus increasing government tax revenues and simultaneously eliminating those troublesome income tax return forms. Citizens can then be issued expense vouchers for weekly needs from government authorities. We in Vermont are on the cutting edge of such trends, no doubt moving towards just such a system.
NO doubt, millions of Amerticans are envious of such efforts in Vermont. Yes, we in Vermont State have experienced the "Vermont Miracle" under the Honourable GOvernor Howard Dean, MD. It's time to share the blessings of such governance with all the citizens of this Nation. Thus, I urge support of Howard Dean for El Presidente of the United Socialist States of Amerika?! Why should we in Vermont State be the only ones to suffer?
Thank You So Very Much,

Wow, a genuine rant for a debut. I'm impressed.
Hey, America survived the "Massachusetts Miracle" back in '88, I'm sure the Republic can survive a guy with about 20% of the name recognition of Dukakis.
Welcome to FreeRepublic.

Oh PLEASE dear Lord let it be so. Dean would be just the grenade to knock the wind out of John Kerry..... and assure the re-nomination of that brilliant environmental scientist and heavily decorated Vietnam Combat veteran (NOT TO MENTION HOLDER OF THE RECORD FOR LONGEST CONVENTION KISS) Al (OHHHH, YEAHHH) Gore!

Dean should tap "Farmer Jim" Jeffords as his running mate in an all VT ticket. If the pair wins VT, then the candidate who most needs that state's three electoral votes can have them. The pres. and v.p. candidates from the same state cannot both receive that state's electoral votes. At least that's what the Constitution says. The American people desperately need a "Vermont miracle." But Coolidge and Admiral Dewey are dead.

Vermont's a beautiful place..
I grew up there and never thought I'd have to leave,

I am so disappointed that other subjects-oops, citizens-of the USSA-oops, USA-have not stepped forward to take a stand for VERMONT GOVERNOR HOWARD DEAN FOR PRESIDENT...OF THE USSA?! THE "VERMONT MIRACLE" MISERIES...to be shared with the entire nation! Where are all those new world order, everything is relative, the world is flat because the ACLU & American teachers unions say so crowd when you need them? Lefties, perverts, heathens, mother earthers & socialists unite-here's your man for a Brave New Amerika!

I had no idea who Howard Dean was until you showed up--and I like to think I'm a little more aware than the average American. If Dean's contemplating a run for Prez based on his alleged miracle in Vermont...call the nearest village and tell them their idiot's new address is the governor's mansion.
BTW, this is Free Republic. We are interested in restoring the AMERICAN Republic, not any sort of republic where they spell "honorable" with a "u." We threw out King George III, and (expletive deleted) any attempt to restore the Queen's English to our great and free republic! :o)
And welcome aboard.

OK-here's a 2nd Amendment question--
How is it that the People's Republic of Vermont, Socialist Haven of the East, also has the most expansive legal right-to-carry?

Dear TigerTale: In The Peoples Socialist Soviet Republic of Vermont, THEY have not yet got around to outlawing firearms ownership by private, law abiding citizens-yet. THEY are stil working on taxing everybody out of their homes via "ACT 60" state-wide centralized school property taxes and destrtoying the traditional family by inviting every homosexual in the nation to Vermont to become "joined" in CIVIL UNION. When we all in Vermont are living in cardboard boxes and nobody gets married anymore, then THEY will have a good line to eliminate the 2nd Amendment in Vermont. "For the children!" of course! Just give THEY time. So, I ask, "Why should we be the only ones in the Nation to suffer the Vermont Miracle Miseries?" IF we have to put up with it, well, misery is not as bitter if shared with one's fellow subjects-oops, prisoners, oops-taxcows, oops-you know: ALL HAIL TO CAESAR, yahooo!

I have a brother who insists on living in Vermont, though he complains a lot about the states idiotic taxes.
Case in point: He pays, as part of his property taxes, a "panoramic view tax",because his house is on the side of a hill overlooking a beautiful lake in the valley below.
Part of the Vermont "Miracle" I guess.

Nice to hear from someone south of the Middlebury-Dixon line.
Dean is being encouraged by his Socialist syncophants at the BFP and it's lesser brown-nosing cousin, the "Rutland Workers' Paradise Daily-Herald."
Indeed, Dean has a record to run on: he turned Vermont into the Arkansas of New England.

THE VERMONT MIRACLE-VERMONT, THE ARKANSAS OF NEW ENGLAND! VERMONT GOVERNOR HOWARD DEAN FOR PRESIDENT OF THE USSA?! Dear Fellow Subjects: I am deeply concerned that we elect a true "peoples' man" to the office of PResident in 2004. Vermont GOvernor HOward Dean is one such man. He is single handedly responsible for the "Vermont Miracle" that has converted the once backwards State of Vermont into the "Arkansas of New England." Let's get behind this potential candidate and spread the word to the rest of the nation, "Yes, there is hope for a socialist paradise on earth-forget the old USSR-here's the man to lead us into the future by converting Amerika into the USSA of the future! THE VERMONT MIRACLE: -centralized, bureaucratic run public schools -excessive taxation and red tape on business -expansion of the welfare state -taxing people out of their homes with high school property taxes (ACT 60) -eliminating local control of public schools -encouraging minors to obtain confidentialy parent-free reproductive health services, including abortion, without Mom & Dad in the picture -encouraging school children to experiment with sexual promiscuity, homosexuality, teen pregnancy, abortion -undermining the traditional family by encouraging homosexual "joining" with the first Civil Unions in the nation -excessively complex state tax return forms -directing state attorney general's office to educate school children on suppressing "hate crimes," "hate speech" and "hate thought" -driving private businesses to other states -standing against true school choice, financially coercing parents to choose public schools, by making home schooling and private sexular & religious schools ineligable for sharing in the school tax pools Come on, people! Let's get behind this potential candidate and share the success of the "Vermont Miracle" with the entire nation! Today, Vermont has been remade into the "Arkansas of New England!" Tomorrow, the entire Amerikan Nation can be remade into the "Vermont of the New World Order!" Send in your pennies today! Yahoo! RWBaral r4baral@aol.com

What if you painted your windows, or your house doesn't have windows?

One of your less palatable exports to my country was the stepdaughter of Bernard Sanders (I-VT) who came to my alma mater for a semester. If she is a symptom of what Vermont political thinking has come to, the rest of the nation should build a fence around Vermont and throw away the key.
To say she was a socialist would be to understate matters. I think she was somewhere between Olaf Palme and Pol Pot. In any event, we were all to be assimilated. Not bloody likely.
Howard Dean is apparently just another one of these Vermont busybody totalitarians that they've been importing into the state in bulk for the past 20 years. I have travelled in the state, and there are old farmers there. One wonders when they'll pick up the pitchforks and drive these idiots back to the benighted regions (such as Hell or Amherst, Massachusetts), where they belong.

(such as Hell or Amherst, Massachusetts), There's a difference?
To: Texbob
"not enough queers in America to elect this man (Dean)..." No, not yet. Just give it another 10 or 15 years. The public schools are indoctrinating children into accepting and experimenting with homsexuality. The gay movement is very aggressively recruiting children. Watch for Federal "hate crime" laws that nationalize what, for example, we not have in Vermont re same. Just give them time...
