Alzona will keep seat despite flap over flier
Apr. 10, 2002 County Council members have rejected a proposal by County Executive Douglas M. Duncan (D) to dismiss a member of a county commission on hate and violence who sparked controversy last month by distributing anti-gun control fliers that portrayed three state lawmakers as Nazi soldiers.
Duncan wants to remove Augustus Alzona of Bethesda from the commission because Alzona distributed the controversial leaflets before a House committee meeting on gun control March 14 in Annapolis.
Duncan cited an inability on the part of Alzona, a member of the county's Republican central committee and a pro-gun advocate, to perform his commission duties. But council attorneys said Alzona's actions do not justify a dismissal.
In a closed session April 2, the County Council voted 8-1 to keep Alzona on the commission. Some council members contended that the action would raise free speech issues and could spark a costly civil rights suit. Howard A. Denis (R-Dist. 1) of Chevy Chase was the only one who voted to remove Alzona.
In a statement Monday, Duncan urged the council to reconsider. But Council President Steven A. Silverman (D-At large) of Silver Spring said the council's decision is final.
"The fact that the county executive wants us to reconsider is fine, but there's nothing left to do here," Silverman said. "Our lawyers are saying that there's a high likelihood of litigation had we done this. And there's a pretty good chance that a judge would reappoint him to the commission."
The fliers show Sens. Brian E. Frosh (D-Dist. 16) of Chevy Chase and Christopher Van Hollen (D-Dist. 18) of Kensington and Del. Mark K. Shriver (D-Dist. 15) of Bethesda in Nazi uniforms with the words: "Montgomery County Democrats have a FINAL solution for ALL of Maryland's gun owners."
Republican leaders, including U.S. Rep. Constance A. Morella (Dist. 8) of Bethesda, also have sought Alzona's resignation from the party's central committee.
Alzona has defended his leaflet as a "Mel Brooks-type parody" and characterized the criticism leveled at him as a smear campaign. He has refused to resign from the commission or the central committee.

RINO alert and mini-analysis of political impact:
"Howard A. Denis (R-Dist. 1) of Chevy Chase was the only one who voted to remove Alzona."
The left wing liberal MC County Council has 7 Democrats to 2 Republicans. Republican Councilman Denis is both a traitor and an embarassment to the Party by being the ONLY council member (8-1 vote) to openly attempt to crucify a fellow GOP official and flagrantly violate Alzona's "free speech" and 2nd Amendment rights over time (another long story). Even the liberal majority Democrats displayed a healthier respect for Alzona's constitutional rights in this particular case.
"...U.S. Rep. Constance A. Morella (Dist. 8) of Bethesda, also have sought Alzona's resignation from the party's central committee."
This other RINO and her shills attacks on Alzona may very well result in Morella's losing her re-election bid in a U.S. congressional district with one of the nation's largest percentages of Asian Pacific American voters. Alzona is a top Asian American community leader in the Maryland suburbs and the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. He is the ONLY elected Asian Pacific American Republican Party official in the tri-state area. He is also a well known gun rights activist (another local "minority"). Both of these key minority groups make up two of the most critical swing voter blocs in deciding closely contested elections in many suburban areas nationwide.
Due the RINOs clear violations of "Ronald Reagan's 11th Commanment for Republicans" a substantial backlash against Morella and Denis has been building up in both the Constitutional/Gun Rights and Asian Pacific American communities since Alzona's critics (both certain Republicans and Democrats) have chosen to continue to publicly slander and libel him, for over a month now. Many local voters will remember this all come November.
P.S. Unlike gun owners and most other minority groups, Asian Pacific Americans (APA) are the least likely citizens to loudly and openly express their dissatisfaction with both the media's and certain politicans' portrayal and treatment of Alzona. Most APA voters often act and react in so-called "subtle Asian ways" which generally run below the radar screens of most voter exit polls taken on election day. Regardless, their votes count just as much as those of the other, more verbose minority groups.

My hat is off to Mr. Alzona for standing his ground and not succumbing to the smear tactics so typical of the radical left.
Well done!

ALZONA asked me to send this TRT mega bump back at ya! ;-)

I seriously hope that Alzona doesn't befall an accident. This type of graphic is something that could spread across America and showing the socialist Democrats as they truly are!

If Morella suffers a loss due to the fallout over the flyer, it will be a pyrrhic victory for the TRT, since Shriver will be the obvious win.

What? Montgomery County has 2 Republican members of the county commission? That puts them ahead of Broward County, Florida, which has only 1 Republican on its County Commission (and he was appointed by Jeb to fill a vacancy!).

"Springtime for Hitler" bump.
I'd love to see a Mel Brooks comedy about the Clinton Era. ;^)

'The Truth Will Set You Free...' liberals have a hard time with the concept however.

I am a new Freeper, what does RINO and TRT mean? On the subject at hand, I believe that too many republicans have forgotten what we stand for. The values and tradition of the Grand Old Party is free speech and the right to keep and bear arms. These so called republican officials in maryland need a reminder of that. Pardon my spelling, but i was never any good at it.

It actually was the Washington Post, certain REPUBLICAN officials (NOT Democrats) who lead the most vile public attacks on Alzona!
A quote from one of the numerous and earlier breaking news stories last month:
"They've decided to make a federal case about it," Alzona said of his critics on Tuesday. "These vicious, slanderous attacks from my own party is what's hurting the party the most. They would be better off just keeping their mouths shut or saying, 'No comment.'"
That particular news story is here:
Republicans want party official out for using Nazi imagery

Send my congratulations to Augustus Alzona and the Maryland TRT. Job well done . . .
A well-deserved vacation is in order. I suggest loading up the Big Game hardware and going on a nice relaxing RINO hunting safari . . .

Why not force Morella to run in a primary, then kick her a** back to the dems where she obviously belongs?
