DON'T LET U.S. PUSH US INTO WAR ON IRAQ (Euro-gag)
The Mirror (U.K.) ^ | 04/08/2002 | The editors

Posted on 04/08/2002 1:02:53 PM PDT by Pokey78

Tony Blair went to see George Bush in Texas and did what we at The Mirror feared he would do.

He rolled over like a rather docile poodle, wagged his tail dutifully, and agreed to everything the war-hungry American President wanted.

Mr Blair's speech last night could have been written by the White House.

It could be boiled down to this: 'America is big, America is strong, America is wonderful - and we in Britain are proud to sit by its side in whatever it does."

In particular, we are apparently delighted to support a new war on Iraq to get rid of Saddam Hussein.

Well, sorry Tony but some of us aren't quite as embarrassingly enamoured with your US buddies.

We don't believe your extraordinary inference that Europe is virtually impotent unless we're shoulder to shoulder with America.

And we certainly don't share your blood-lust to go bombing again. Particularly in Iraq.

George Bush's interview with Trevor McDonald confirmed many things about the president.

He's not very bright, he smirks a lot when discussing very serious matters, and he's hell bent on avenging what happened to his country on September 11.

Mr Blair IS very bright, and should see through this intellectually-limited Texan warrior's vision with ease.

Let's be real here: America does not give a damn whether we support them or not. They'll just do what they've always done - and that's precisely what suits them.

That's fine, so long as we don't get dragged along for the inevitable very bloody ride.

Tragically, Mr Blair seems so keen to ingratiate himself with the President that he can't find it in him to say NO.

The Prime Minister knows that many of his own MPs are totally opposed to any Iraq offensive.

Not because they're appeasers or anti-war.

But because they know it will result in massive and possibly irreparable instability to the whole region.Which is why hardly anyone else in the world agrees with it.

It will also be a massive drain on our own military resources when we least need it.

This trip to Texas was Mr Blair's chance to bare his fangs and prove he's not a tame Bush poodle.

He went, he saw, he wagged.

Americans cheered. Many Britons will not. We've just wasted our last chance to prevent a reckless new war.

And that is bad news for us and very bad news for Great Britain.

Though I don't appreciate the snotty tone of this piece, nor the inuslts directed towards the President (well actually I've heard him called much worse right here), I agree 100% with their stance against attacking Iraq.

It seems to me Iran is more of a threat to America (via it's support of Al Qeada) than Iraq.

It's the children and grandchildren of the same bunch of idiots that said, "Hitler? Yea, we can work with him."

I just returned from a two week vacation in Spain. Only the second time I've been to Europe. I'm still stunned by the anti-American sentiment over there, both in the press and on the street. I can't wait till some Islamo-nut blows up Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower. Then the Euro-weenies will sing a different tune. Well some of them anyway. Did you notice that the only reason given for not toppling Saddam's vicious regime is that it will "destablilize" the region. As if the region were stable with Iraq playing shell games with weapons of mass destruction.

Funny, I remember the Brits saying, "what can we do to get the Americans involved in the war?" during 1940.

The beauty of being a superpower.. Russia use to do whatever it wanted on it's side of the world until they financially collapsed.. Hell Russia doesn't complain half as much as the rest of the world because they had the power and they know damn well if they hadn't collapsed they would be using it too(on a side note they know being on the good side of the US will help them restore themselves to a superpower once again.. eventually taht is.) Everyone with half a brain knows we need to get rid of Saddam.. if we take him on his lease he's going to bring that region into utter chaos. It comes down to damned if we do damned if we don't.. on one side if we do something about him we're gonna lose some soliders.. and not like on Afghanstan's terms.. god forbid iran gets invovled too it could be more on the lines of vietnam if both iraq and iran unlease chemical weapons. The problem here is if we don't take that risk of losing lots of our boys then all were gonna see is Israel being driven into the sea and the fundamentalits getting even more embolded to put in oil embargos and cause more terrorism throughout the world.

"Mr Blair IS very bright...."

I stopped at this remark--- A 'bright' man siding with the United States, and the world's, anti-terrorist position makes sense, the rest of the article is Socialist 'pap'.

I have been very surprised at the leadership Tony Blair has displayed. Just like the Nazi-loving lefties of the left, any sign that Blair actually agrees with Bush on an issue must mean that Blair is a puppet of the gun-toting cowboy Bush. The Mirror is truly the paper of yobs.

As if making 'missiles' out of 4 commercial airliners in one morning isn't 'destabilizing'.

"If he only tried a little harder in school, he might have become a pusillanimous, hand-wringing, surrender-monkey, writing snarky, petulant editorials for the effete toothless British press."

Heh, heh...oh, that's good. :) (Now I need to go look up "pusillanimous")

Ridiculous! Just wait until a few terrorists destroy a few landmarks in Europe....nothing like a little personal taste of terror that kills thousands of innocents to up the ante.

what is the british word for landslide? OOHhh ... we speak the same language... it's "landslide" isn't it?

I anticipate the emptying out of the back row of the opposition Tony faces. Bon Soir.

Brits love being invited to arse kicking parties with the colonies... as long as they are sure we are going to let them share the field of honor. Tis a brit thing. They are NOT cowards. To them it is like going on holiday with the grand children... and they always bring a HIKING STICK.

The ods of britain letting "the colonies" take all the glory from the field of honor and miss the delights of the defanging process in Iraq, ie, killing off the hydra there... are nil. Akin to the snowball's chance in the fires of hell.

The brits will be there... probably the first boots on the ground... count on it. They MAY be there already.

Dead or alive, appeasement is as good a policy today as it was in Hitler's time, and this article supports it. I guess some people are too stupid to learn from history -- even press pundits who think a journalism degree makes them smarter than everyone else on the planet.

The Brits thought appeasement was wonderful. Until the United States had to choose between fighting Hitler and appeasing him by letting England sink. Roosevelt waffled and created Lend-Lease.
