Tony Blair went to see George Bush in Texas and did what we at The Mirror feared he would do.
He rolled over like a rather docile poodle, wagged his tail dutifully, and agreed to everything the war-hungry American President wanted.
Mr Blair's speech last night could have been written by the White House.
It could be boiled down to this: 'America is big, America is strong, America is wonderful - and we in Britain are proud to sit by its side in whatever it does."
In particular, we are apparently delighted to support a new war on Iraq to get rid of Saddam Hussein.
Well, sorry Tony but some of us aren't quite as embarrassingly enamoured with your US buddies.
We don't believe your extraordinary inference that Europe is virtually impotent unless we're shoulder to shoulder with America.
And we certainly don't share your blood-lust to go bombing again. Particularly in Iraq.
George Bush's interview with Trevor McDonald confirmed many things about the president.
He's not very bright, he smirks a lot when discussing very serious matters, and he's hell bent on avenging what happened to his country on September 11.
Mr Blair IS very bright, and should see through this intellectually-limited Texan warrior's vision with ease.
Let's be real here: America does not give a damn whether we support them or not. They'll just do what they've always done - and that's precisely what suits them.
That's fine, so long as we don't get dragged along for the inevitable very bloody ride.
Tragically, Mr Blair seems so keen to ingratiate himself with the President that he can't find it in him to say NO.
The Prime Minister knows that many of his own MPs are totally opposed to any Iraq offensive.
Not because they're appeasers or anti-war.
But because they know it will result in massive and possibly irreparable instability to the whole region.Which is why hardly anyone else in the world agrees with it.
It will also be a massive drain on our own military resources when we least need it.
This trip to Texas was Mr Blair's chance to bare his fangs and prove he's not a tame Bush poodle.
He went, he saw, he wagged.
Americans cheered. Many Britons will not. We've just wasted our last chance to prevent a reckless new war.
And that is bad news for us and very bad news for Great Britain.
Even the French are selfish. Or should I say, especially the French are selfish?

Finally, some truth, though Blair's unexpected support since 911 has been heartwarming.

Speaking of “inevitable very bloody rides”, where’s that “brutal Afghan winter” we’ve been waiting for? You know, the one that the British press promised would bog down our forces and lead to a slaughter of our troops by the well-conditioned fighting god-men of the Taliban.

Dead or alive, appeasement is as good a policy today as it was in Hitler's time, and this article supports it. I guess some people are too stupid to learn from history -- even press pundits who think a journalism degree makes them smarter than everyone else on the planet.
It will be interesting to see what these puerile hacks have to write when they find themselves facing attacks from Arabs instead of the IRA. Should be good for a few laughs.

The Mirror has foolishly called President Bush "not very bright", but the facts speak for themselves. President Bush is a strong American leader and most European leaders have appeared inept since September 11th.
