Those in attendance: Dutchy, firebrand, Exit 109, paulie, Oschisms, America Love It or ......
And John Brock, head of Tri-State Immigration Moratorium (thank you, rmlew), who helped us hand out flyers and gave us some great advice.
Photos will be posted later so you can see us and abner's great signs.
We got an amazingly positive reaction, from those who didn't just walk by in a daze. People who are even a bit informed about this issue agree with us completely.
The Public Library tried to drown us with a phony sprinkler show, then when we moved they went away.
We gave away reams of flyers and hope that we have planted the seeds of some kind of consciousness on this issue.
Afterwards, by coincidence, we ended up at a pub that was named after the first immigrant to be processed through the newly opened Ellis Island immigration center: Annie Moore's Pub. This was January 1, 1892, at at time when immigrants were actually screened in some fashion.
Dutchy, firebrand, and Exit 109 are now posting this from an Internet Cafe on Fifth Avenue.
Tell us more. What did the flyers say? What were some of the reactions from passersby? Any one-fingered salutes, "Get a life" comments? How long was your freep? Did the sprinklers get you wet? What was the temperature outside? ..... so many questions, I have more but will wait until someone actually gets home.
How nice of you to stop off at an internet cafe to post this. Paulie, did you bring your wife?
People who are even a bit informed about this issue agree with us completely. As they should. Prior to 9/11 you would have had problems but attitudes have truly changed.
I can hardly wait!
Having done a few of these myself, I know they are hard work and it's impossible not to experience a few twinges of self-doubt, wondering why you're spending your precious free time trying to educate people who would prefer not to be educated when you could be fixing that dripping faucet, shopping or just sitting on your sofa watching the tube. You're all REAL patriots. Sitting in front of a computer and complaining does NOT make you a patriot. Only a whiner.
Keep the faith!
Michelle says: "Good for you, Freepers! Glad to know you are out there trying to keep the torch lit on this issue. Ill be writing about 245i again next week."
She is also doing a book on the immigration mess, to be published in September.
I'm sure the rest were even better...
Pictures I'm sure will be posted soon. The sooner the better... patiently waiting...
