Cardinal Roger M. Mahony of the Los Angeles Archdiocese told one of his lawyers in a recent e-mail that the diocese made 'our big mistake' by not turning over three cases involving priests accused of wrongdoing to the LAPD, according to e-mails obtained Thursday by the Los Angeles Times.

It is very confusing to people when leaders seem to ignore the real problems in the Church that need to be addressed, seem to tolerate and encourage liturgical fuzziness and practices that don't, to me, show or manifest
the holiness of the Sacrifice of the Mass.

Mother M. Angelica of the Annunciation

We ought to print this up on cards and put them in every missalette and hymnal and in every conservative Catholic publication -- online too!!

When I go to Church I go there to commune with Christ, not the people in the pew with me. Why do these priests and bishops have a problem with that?

Because "the people" are the Church. Christ is present in His Body, the Eucharist, AND His Body, the community.

Read "Lumen Gentium" from Vatican II. "Where two or three are gathered in My Name, there I am."

Yes, well and good. But I still don't want to spend my hour holding hands with strangers in the pew. My focus is Christ-centered and Eucharist-centered. There is plenty of time before and after Mass and in other Church activities to be in community with my neighbor. The fact that we all gather together at Mass is enough for me. BTW, I'm 35. Life post Vatican II is all I know. Strangely enough, something beyond my knowledge or memory pulls me to the Latin Mass.

Let's face it, Mahoney's a phoney. How he rose to the level of Cardinal is beyond me. The only reasonable explanation is that the RC priesthood has "descended" into little more than a collection of gay bath houses and guys like Mahoney in LA, Egan in NY and the guy in Boston... forget his name...are the gay "house mothers" nurturing their stable of predators and providing them priviledged sanctuary to prey on the young, defenseless and innocent and destroy their lives.

Mahoney's email is proof positive that he feels absolutely NO remorse for the young lives destroyed. His sole interest is "damage control" and covering his own ass.

I suspect you spend, at most, five minutes holidng hands with those around you.

If you don't want to do it, don't do it. Nobody is forcing you to do what you don't want to do.

Strangely enough, something beyond my knowledge or memory pulls me to the Latin Mass.

As someone who worshipped with the Latin Mass, your attraction to it is strange and highly overrated.

Thank you for the quote from St Matthew.

I especially like the part about 'in My Name', rather than 'in My followers names'.

It puts the part about being gathered in the proper context: a focus on or direction toward Our Lord.

Well, Dr. Kopp, John Paul II promoted all three of these guys and, I suspect, he also knew that they were moving these predators around, given the testimony of Father Thomas Doyle.

The buck stops at the top.

Misleading in that the modes of presence are "substantially" different. There is a transubstantiation of the Eucharistic elements into the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ our Lord. The "assembly" or the Body of the faithful, on the other hand, share in his presence not by virtue of transubstantiation of people but by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the sacraments, the means of grace etc., et.al.

In writing this I realize how rusty my English is.

How incredibly rude. I stated a personal preference for it based on my experience of both. If you don't like it fine, but you have no right to dictate to me how to experience and worship God. Latin is an inherently spiritual language. The energies invoked within the Latin Mass are far more potent and many people share my experience of this. Obviously you don't, and it's your decision in what context you wish to experience God as long as it is respectful. I find it highly offensive that you ridicule my spiritual path.

Yes. The modes are different. But one who attends Mass with the community of the faithful is part of a gathering that is more than just a group of individuals, each doing his own thing. There is a "body" of Christ present.

Weird???:

John 6

52Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
53Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. 57Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever." 59He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

Many Disciples Desert Jesus

60On hearing it, many of his disciples said, "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?"
61Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, "Does this offend you? 62What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit[1] and they are life. 64Yet there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65He went on to say, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him."
66From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
67"You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve.
68Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."

I will not. The Latin Mass is a novelty, Father. The norm in America is the vernacular Mass.

I am certain that I am older than you, and knew only the Latin Mass in my youth.
