Ex-President Bill Clinton has told friends that he intends to replace his dog Buddy, who was tragically run over in January while running loose near the former first family's Chappaqua, N.Y., mansion, with another labrador retriever from the same breeder.
During a conversation with former Texas Governor Ann Richards at a gathering at a Manhattan restaurant this week, Clinton reportedly grew morose when asked about Buddy. "But he brightened up, saying he would get a new lab in June from the late Buddy's breeder," reports gossip columnist Liz Smith.
The revelation came as the president announced he was "sprucing up" his image, Smith said.
In February, Clinton told a Woodbury, New York audience that he liked living in tony Westchester, N.Y. because it reminded him of the Arkansas of his youth.
"I love living in Westchester County. I like living in a little town again where I know all my neighbors."
Then, turning maudlin, Clinton added, "I like it [but] I miss my dog ... I miss my dog."
Buddy was the second Clinton dog killed while roaming unattended. The first, a cocker spaniel named Zeke, was hit by a car while running loose in 1991 near the governor's mansion in Little Rock, Ark.
It was then that the former first family got Socks the cat, who, according to then-Clinton press secretary Susie Whiteacre, was to be their second and final pet.
"Socks is pretty much Chelsea's cat and I don't expect them to get another dog," Whiteacre told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette at the time.
During the 1992 presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton explained to an acquaintance that Zeke was killed "after years of near misses," according to Newsday.
"We still miss him, especially Chelsea," she added. "We haven't even tried to replace him, but have a great cat named 'Socks!'"
The Clintons gave Socks away to longtime Clinton aide Betty Currie in January 2001.
A few days after Buddy's death, Ingrid Newkirk, president of the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, complained publicly that the Clintons had failed to take "adequate precautions" to prevent Buddys death.
"We understand that Buddy is the second Clinton family dog to be killed in traffic," Newkirk wrote at the time. "Please let him be the last."
Newkirk was unavailable for comment on the news that Clinton intended to get yet another dog.
I'm suprised he didn't have buddy stuffed and mounted on little rolling platform that he can drag the dog around like a pull-toy. Better yet, he should get one of those leashes that make it appear that you have an invisible dog. Then he pull a Hillary and say that the ghost of buddy is still with him to comfort him and give him advice. This ought to get him a few more photo ops.
BUDDY RETURNS FROM THE DEAD
AND HE'S PISSED
Note to Ingrid Newkirk & PETA: Buddy was whacked! He new much too much about the "White House" days, and he could not be trusted not to talk. Therefore, he had to be whacked! It should be a mission for PETA to get to the bottom of Buddy's untimely demise. You owe it to the next puppy that Clinton gets. I would suggest that you, immediately, start a multi-million dollar investigation into the possible gang land style murder of Buddy. Remember, this is for the puppies!

Clue: "Hubble" around the "Web"!
...frightening...
He is a sick puppy....his legacy is Israel's destruction!!! However getting a new dog will make some or most on the left forget that little fact,,,,,IDIOTS!
Those who are unaware that Clinton's dog was named Buddy might have misinterpreted the headline, believing that Bubba would replace a lost human buddy with one of the canine persuasion. Upon further review, as the instant replay ref says, it is obvious that Buddy was also a dog. For Buddy to have been a human would have meant that the Great Stainmaker actually had a human friend, instead of just a series of sycophants, fellatrixes, and assorted ass-kissers awed by the power of his office, all of whom he used for his own benefit and discarded when he was through with them.
But were they really accidents? Perhaps they just knew too much or threatened to call PETA...
In a statement released Monday, DC Park police stated that beloved first family dog "Buddy" was found dead in the middle of Pennsylvania Ave. Park police are calling this a suicide because the car that hit buddy was found parked, engine running, a few feet away. Police theorize that buddy stole the car from the White House motor-pool and took it the site of the suicide where he jumped out of the car window, ran ahead (he's a dog and he can do this) and then stood in its path. Clinton staffers, after a search of buddy's doghouse turned up a suicide note hidden in box of milk bone doggy treats, confirming park police suspicions that this was suicide. In the note, Buddy claimed responsibility for the disapearance of "Socks" the cat..."
Won't he have to divorce the old one first?
