And now you know the rrrrrrest of the story!

Two true patriots indeed-Lee Marvin and Bob Keeshan. I would have never guessed that Captain Kangaroo once fought in WW II in the Pacific Theater. Like they say, you learn something new every day, and that makes me feel very patriotic inside as a former Marine myself that served until 1998. God bless these fine people. Send a set of ping-pong balls down on me now!!!

Damm! I didn't know about Lee Marvin (a favorite of mine) or Captain Kangaroo.... VERY interesting, thanks for posting.
Does anyone else remember the occasion when Captain Kangaroo, thinking the LIVE cameras had shut down at the conclusion of the show
- said: " Well, I hope that satisfied the little bastards".....
Now, that was a USMC Sergeant speaking from the heart!

Mr. Greenjeans was the eighth man to walk on the moon.
Most people don't know that.

Hmmm, I suspect that this is a urban legend as Bob Keeshan wasn't born until June 1927. Putting his age to be barely 18 by 1945.
But Lee Marvin was a WWII vet.

Long live Lee, Capt. Kangeroo, (and Mr. Green Jeans).

Hey, thanks for the great read!

Marvin was wounded, in the butt, on Saipan on 18 June 1944 and spent the next 13 months in different hospitals. Purple Heart, no Navy Cross, no duty on Iwo.

Yes SF, many stars of film and TV during the 50's and 60's were former Marine's. I could be wrong, but as I remember, Chuck Connor's of "The Rifleman" TV series, was also a Marine. Served in "Tanks", I believe.

I LOVED Capt Kangaroo! (I don't remember it much, but my Mom insists that I never missed it and loved every minute)

Wow! Captain Kangaroo was a favorite of mine as a child. Thanks for posting a bit more insight into the man.
