Like many here on FR, I've spent the last week knashing my teeth over Daschle's tactics in the Senate...blocking Judge Pickering's confirmation, blocking drilling in Alaska, and now this inane effort to make the Homeland Security director testify in Congress. And I've been hoping, like many of you, that Sen Miller would cross the aisle to the GOP side. Well, consider this scenario.....
No mr Ex, we dislike you because you lack honesty and character.
I suggest that Freepers become more active campaigners for the next election, doing all we can to elect the elect (Republicans). Make the grass roots sharp and effective by working locally and at State and Federal levels to re-take the Senate and increase the majority in the house.
Not only did the Founding Fathers set this nation up as a REPUBLIC , they made certain that it wasn't a system ( palimentary ) that allows for the influence of minor parties. You're just SOOL ; DREAM ON !
And how much "better" would it be with a DemocRAT majority? Just look at what's going on with a DemocRAT plurality thanks to Judas Jeffords!

Wrong. Fitzgerald isn't up for re-election this year. He isn't up for re-election until 2004. Democrat Dick Durbin is up this year. You blew it.
Durbin is considered SAFE in Illinois, unfortunately. :(
I note you are predicting that the Republicans will pick up 3 seats this year. I know the media keeps saying this year is too close to call but the generic polls show a 2 point Republican lead. And I agree with you, if this holds, it is very likely that the Republicans will pick up three seats this year.
What has puzzled me is how Daschle is acting. Any person who has studied which strategies work and which don't has to understand that what Daschle is doing makes no sense. You can gridlock government in good times when the nation is at peace and be rewarded at the polls. But in war or economic cricis producing gridlock in opposition is political suicide. I kept asking myself, "Does Daschle not know this?" And the answer keeps coming back, YES, he has to know it. The big question is, why does he do it?
People only do counter productive things when being counter productive can not make the situation worse. If he is certain that he is going into the minority and will likely be there for at least 6 more years, he may very well decide to get in his licks while he can. He seems to be saying, I am going to get kicked out of majority status, but I will hurt you as much as I can before I go.
Daschle reminds me of a football team well behind in the 4th quarter. They have no hope of victory They put all their efforts into trying to sack the other sides quarterback.
Daschle does not look like a man trying to win the game. He does not look like a man trying to score points. He does not look like someone trying to prevent the other side from scoring. He looks like a player trying to sack the other sides quarterback just to make him hurt.
Either that or Daschle is one stupid puppy.
Good idea.
Bump.
Two points. First, I'm no kid! Second, DemocRAT strategy is an oxymoron.
I'm not sure why you see that as so critical compared to say, missile defense.
To elect liberal RINOs only delays (and not for long) destruction. Each Senate seat and governorship and Congressional seat is a precious asset. All the more so because no conservative and no RINO either is going to defeat many of the incumbent DemonRats (Ted the Driver; Ketchup Kerry; Judas Jeffords; Commissar Leahy; Patsy Mink; Daniel Akaka; $60 Million Corzine; Jay Rockefeller; just to name seven of many). We are already wasting valuable Senate seats on too many ideological weaklings than whom we can do better: Kay Bailey Hutchinson (pro-choice but adopts a child) [Texas owes more to America]; Trent Lott and Thad Cochrane [So does Mississippi]; Olympia Pro-Choice Snowe; Lincoln Comrade Chafee; Pete (Make the peasants pay medical insurance for mental health and balance the budget at any price) Domenici [so does New Mexico]; just to name a few.
We can do better than this. We do not need to put up with Washington State's Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell; nor North Dakota's Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad; nor New Mexico's Jeff Bingaman; nor Arizona's McLame; nor Herbert (his lips are sealed on all controversies) Kohl or Russell Feingold of Wisconsin [Tommy Thompson could take either of them]; nor South Dakota's Tim Johnson or Tiny Tom D'Azole; nor Montana's Max Baucus; nor the cynical widder Carnahan in Missouri; nor Mary Landrieu in Louisiana; nor Fritz Hollings of South Carolina which REALLY owes more to America; nor John Edwards of North Carolina, the next coming of the Arkansas Antichrist; and speaking of Arkansas, we don't need Blanche Lincoln; nor Robert Graham nor William Nelson from Floriduh; nor Cleland from Georgia; nor Harkin from Iowa; nor Wellstone nor Dayton from Minnesota who would probably have been too far left for the Soviet Politburo; nor Debbie Stabusnow nor Carl Levin from Michigan; nor Lying Fratboy Biden nor Thomas Carper from Delaware; nor Durbin of Illinois; nor Bayh of Indiana; just to name 28 switchable seats.
This year, America is suffering a clearance sale of the current generation of Americans (as opposed to liberals) in the US Senate: Jesse Helms, Phil Gramm, Strom Thurmond, Fred Thompson, all to retirement and Bob Smith to RINO cowardice in New Hampshire lest GOP establishment allow him to offend Planned Barrenhood.
As conservatives, we have a lot of work to do but a super majority is indeed possible and without much in the way of keeling over for RINOs. One more thing, if Bill Simon wins in California DiFi and Babs are also in play, making at least 30 switchables and you can then add Zell Miller of Georgia and probably Breaux of Louisiana.
How's that? We just have to work as hard as the DemonRats to have the results we want particularly in flyover country.
