The GOP believed in the elimination of the Dept. of Education? It was created in the Carter administration. I don't recall a majority of Republicans ever being in favor of its elimination.

I'm not sure why you see that as so critical compared to say, missile defense.

I gotta disagree with those who think a Republican super majority would be a bad thing. Sure, Republicans in congress are spineless for the most part. BUT when you're acting from a position of strength you're emboldened. If Republicans were to hold a majority in the House, and at least a 60 seat majority in the Senate, I believe we'll see even RINO's working to push forward conservative legislation (if for no other reason than to NOT piss off the other Republicans in congress).

So yeah, a supermajority would be fantastic. Once Republicans in Congress are operating from a position of strength, you better believe they'll grow their balls back and start doing what's right. You don't see that, now, because they're holding on to a precarious majority in the house, and have a minority in the Senate. And when you're down, you don't want to lose what you already have. You're not as willing to gamble, because if you lose the losses can be catastrophic (like a DEMOCRAT super majority!!!).

But if Republicans were to achieve ascendancy 1) They'd be willing to take risks, as they can absorb any losses they may take, and 2) They'd realize that it was conservatism that brought them into power, and so make sure to enact conservative policies.

Having the ability to reshape the world is a huge morale booster.
