U G has been very good about posting them...

He also got a great shot in to old Helen Thomas when he replied to her that the shadow gov. situation had been around since the cold war years - which he was sure she remembered!!

Are you sure he didn't mean the Civil War years?

I saw some of this too! I CANNOT believe how stupid and single minded the press pool is. They would not let go of this issue. Maybe they should ask the Dems, eh? Perhaps, the Bush administration is going to catch them in a lie. Wouldn't that be great? Would the press report it? Probably not.

I liked Ari's comments about Pickering's nomination and reading that quote from Biden was great! Glad to see Bush is pushing this now.

His response was timid.
Ari's response should've been along the lines of, "Don't hold me responsible for the fact that the Senator doesn't remember being there on September 11th."

Of course the RATs knew about it. If they didn't, then how is it coming out?

I want to say more, but what I want to see happen to the traitorous RATs and their treasonous allies in the Leftist Press isn't nice or pretty.

I've been listening to Rush this afternoon, and a guest on FOX this morning reported that Daschle knew about the shadow government and was given a tour of the facility.

The first thing that Ari said to Helen was that he was "going to disabuse her of the notion of 'shadow government'......that is a mis-nomer." Ari repeatedly used the phrase "continuity of government"

IMHO, that is one of the most important points of this story. "Shadow Government" is a term that was coined sometime last week, ginned up by the press, and used by little tommy, to spread fear and confusion. I'd like to know who coined it? Sounds like a crusty black pant suit to me.

The main point Ari made...or tried to make...to all the piling on reporters...was that it's a misnomer to call it "a shadow government". It's a contingency plan to keep the government going in the event of an emergency, and Ari's point was everyone in Washington knows there has been a contingency plan in place since the Cold War.

Ari would not go into details about who it involves, but one example he gave, was someone to make sure people kept receiving their social security checks.

Seems to me the Washington Post came up with the sexy sounding "Shadow Government" term to describe "the Contingency Plan". Democrats figured to use this to their political advantage, and the media is playing it to the hilt.

Have the Dims and their media buddies completely lost it?? Our troops are engaged in a ground battle with our toughest enemy and they're arguing about whether Little Tommy knew about the bunker, which is in Byrd's West Virginia, for crissake. They sound like 12 year olds complaining they want to move up from the kid's card table to the adults' dining room table for dinner. Do they realize how stupid and irrelevent they appear to normal, non-Beltway Americans?? Do they have a death wish?

Ari also said something to the effect that now the "Shadow government" location has turned into a tourist attraction. Paraphrasing.

"He also got a great shot in to old Helen Thomas when he replied to her that the shadow gov. situation had been around since the cold war years - which he was sure she remembered!! I laughed out loud."

LOL!! Me too! I just LOVE it when Helen gts stomped. Sometimes I think the only reason the psychotic old bat is allowed into press conferences is for comedy relief.

On the other hand, I hope Ari didn't honestly expect the 1960's-early-'70's, former flower children of the left wing media to understand anything about the COLD WAR.

THE WHITE HOUSE REGULAR BRIEFING

ARI FLEISCHER, WHITE HOUSE SPOKESMAN

WHITE HOUSE BRIEFING ROOM, WASHINGTON, D.C.

MR. FLEISCHER: Good morning -- good afternoon. The president this morning had his usual round of intelligence and FBI briefings, and then he had a approximately one-hour-long meeting with Republican members of the congressional leadership in both the House and the Senate, where he gave them an update on the war and talked about several issues on the domestic agenda, including the importance of helping America achieve energy independence. There's an important vote coming up in the Senate. The president talked about the need to help the economy by passing a stimulus. And he also talked about the importance of passing a faith-based initiative to help lower-income Americans and other Americans who need help in making it in America. Later this afternoon, the president will meet with the Ecumenical Patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church. And then this evening, the president will meet with the president of Egypt, which will be followed by a press availability. And then the president will have dinner with the president of Egypt back in the residence.

And that is it as way of opening statement. I'm happy to take questions.

Go ahead, Helen.

Q Ari, can you tell us why Senator Daschle was not told about the shadow government?

MR. FLEISCHER: Number one, let me --

Q And why the other leaders of both parties --

Q Tell us about today's meeting.

MR. FLEISCHER: Number one, let me disabuse you of the misnomer of "shadow government." That's a misnomer.

Senator Daschle was here at the White House earlier today, where White House aides, and others, reiterated to the senator information that had previously been provided to people who work for him. And --

Q You mean they failed to tell him?

MR. FLEISCHER: I do not speak for members of Congress. That's not something that I would describe.

Q Are you talking about his staff?

MR. FLEISCHER: Again, I do not speak for members of Congress. But the administration has consulted with the Congress -- has informed the Congress about its programs that have been in place, as you know, since the Cold War, to have continuity of government and continuity of operations. The administration has informed the Congress about those plans, about those programs, and was pleased to reiterate that to Senator Daschle today.

Q Let me follow up on that?

Q Yeah, can I follow up?

Q Was Lott and Hastert also in that meeting? And this was with Card and --

MR. FLEISCHER: Senator Lott was there. The speaker, I think, had been previously informed. And Congressman Gephardt will also be provided that information.

Q Why wasn't Gephardt here today?

Q Why wasn't Gephardt there?

MR. FLEISCHER: Plans are already underway. He's already been talked to and that will happen.

Q Wait, wait now. He has already been talked to, you say?

MR. FLEISCHER: That's correct.

Q Why would he not be at the briefing today, though?

MR. FLEISCHER: That's a scheduling matter --

Q The speaker had already been talked to.

MR. FLEISCHER: It's a scheduling matter. That's happening.

Q How is it a scheduling matter? Were they invited?

Q I just want to get something straight. They said that --

MR. FLEISCHER: Again, I don't make all the invitations here at the White House --

Q Was Gephardt invited to the meeting?

MR. FLEISCHER: Again, Campbell, I don't make all the scheduling arrangements for the White House. I'd have to go back and take a careful look to see who was.

Q Well, his office says he wasn't invited.

MR. FLEISCHER: I can tell you he's already been talked to -- his office has already been talked to.
