Checkers is a professional sport?

Isn't there something odd about having only received 13 medals at most in the past and now we have 33. Maybe judging was more fair this time. Not sure what the deal is

I can't understand why the don't suffer cervical strains etc Yeah, I know you used the word correctly, but I can't help snickering over a men's bobsled team suffering from cervical strain.

Did you play tennis? I used to but never got that hi. Was ranked as a junior in grade school. But never did much. Soccer tho was different :)

Some of it is more events, quite a few have been added in recent Olympiads (snowboard, aerial skiing, short track skating, women's hockey, skeleton). But some of it also is that the U.S. is improving dramatically in some sports that they simply weren't competitive in before (sliding sports like Bobsled and luge). We're even improving in the nordic sports of ski jumping, cross country and biathalon - sports we should be competitive in.
But I'm still bummed out by our performance in Alpine Skiing (my sport). To me these 10 events are the premier winter sports (I'm biased). And we could only get 2 medals (both silver by one guy). That just won't do. We should do better and be a deeper Alpine team than we showed this time.

Lack of perf. drugs used (as much)?

How about that medal ceremony, there's a cheerful and appreciative lot. Frankly, I found the sight of three grown men showing a little dignity and reserve in such a situation somewhat refreshing. Moreover, after 30 miles and 2 hours+ of cross-country skiing, it may have been simply that they were tired as hell.

Soccer is my favorite, but enjoy most all sports. Even the odd ones. Well, except curling. I just don't get it.

one of my favorite images is seeing that eagle helmet of Shea with his determined steely eyed look peering through the visor as he was going down the hill (or getting ready to go down)..just reminded me of the steely determination of the US to take down the terrorists..we will not falter... we will not tire..we will not fail

Interesting results in the Olympics this evening. No gold for the US relay team in short track, Ohno shut out of gold this evening, and the bobsledders get two medals! Wow! And BYU beats Utah today (I was at the game.) Great day for sports her in the state of Utah.

i am shocked that nothing has come over the AP wire announcing that Korea is protesting the results and is boycotting the games because of the judging tonight ;-)
