Drought stricken farmers cheered the release Monday of a report saying that a federal decision to favor fish over crops last summer in southern Oregon wasn't based on sound science.
The study by an arm of the National Academy of Sciences is a victory for farmers and a major development in one of the nation's most volatile environmental issues.

Hmmm, a fetus is an unborn child and humans are more important than sucker fish. Is sanity actually returning to this country, or do we still need more carnage to knock reality into us? I believe we are being weighed in the balance, and hopefully the scales are tipping toward right thinking. I don't know about you, but one Sept. 11 was enough for me.

!@##@%$#$#$##%#$%%!!!!!!God this kind of stuff really ticks me off!Choosing a lousy sucker fish over a familie's survival! Don't get me wrong,I love animals and fish and trees, but not to the point of taking someones pursuit of happiness away. Humans also have a right to be here.

You would be surprised to note how many people who run WaterWatch, based in Oregon, are transplanted easterners. In fact, some of the most fanatical "environmentalists" to be found in both Oregon and Washington are leftist graduates of California schools.

In fact, some of the most fanatical "environmentalists" It doesn't surprise me a bit- they belong to that nasty little subset of people who "want the might of the government to force everybody else to do what they want them to do..."
People who work on and use the land are usually true conservationists, in the old sense of the word, who want to use and preserve resources.

Good writeup; seems that the unscientific screwups that have plagued the real conservationists are starting to hit the sheeples radar screens. Just don't let up, ever. You know the watermelon crowd will cry and scream, and there are still too many in the media that give them a pass when it comes to verification of the watermelon claims.

""This report exposes flawed decisions that were made in the name of protecting fish, which forced family farmers and ranchers to go bankrupt and brought widespread harm to the economic vitality of the entire Klamath community," said Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore. Ranch owner and businessman Bill Ransom called the report "a turning point."
Landowners deserve compensation for last year's crop and business losses,".........
Guys, I agree with this guy, even though it will be private sector taxpayer's money used for the "compensation". It is after all "our" {private sector taxpayer's} government that teamed with the environazis to steal the water. And, I would add "loss of property due to bankruptcy brought on by the theft" to the list due compensation. Peace and love, George.

Where the hell are all those do gooder lawyers now? This is a chance for them to really make a killing a give the farmers some chump change.

Why would they open the gates tomorrow? The ground and the water is frozen...even if the water could flow, when it froze..it could severely damage the pumps and equipment downstream.
BTW, the main gates at "A" Canal are still under heavy security...razorsharp wire, cameras, underground motion detectors...cost the taxpayers just a whole lot of money over bad science...taxpayers should demand accountability.
The ditches aren't cleaned out. It always takes a couple of weeks..month to get the ditches and equipment along the route ready to receive the water. You're talking 400 miles of ditches.
The gates should be opened 55 days from now. Count it down........ when we'll be ready to use it wisely and responsibly...like always.
Hopefully, the BO in ten days will be the "vehicle" needed for the agriculture community to secure loans for this year's crops...if it doesn't happen soon, it could be too late for the early growers to get seed, fertilization and other essentials necessary to start the season.

"Scientific evidence does not support current proposals to change water levels or river flows to promote the welfare of the fish currently at risk, although future research may justify doing so," panel chairman William Lewis of the University of Colorado said.Ranch owner and businessman Bill Ransom called the report "a turning point."
Wishful thinking. The next move will be for a slow death while they fight for their compensation for Round 1. The EPA and the State of Oregon are going to keep at it using illegal 303(d) TMDL regulations for nutrients in the water even though most of it comes from birds. This is just the beginning.
Not once in any news report have I seen these creeps in The Federal Government state unequivocally that the farmers own the water. All of them have acted as if their hand on the valve was legitimate. You can bet that if they had to pay a market price for the water in the first place that they would have had to justify it thoroughly with a defensible scientific review. Everybody would have saved money.
